Arsenal Striker Sunu Scoops International Award

Arsenal Reserves striker Gilles Sunu has won the “Player Of The Tournament” award after playing for France Under 17’s in the Algarve tournament in January.

The giant forward, played as a left sided midfielder and scored two goals, and made various assists during the competition which was held in blistering conditions, however his fellow Arsenal team-mates, Kyle Bartley and Sanchez Watt walked away with the trophy after a 0-0 draw with hosts Portugal on the final day.

Watt and Bartley also featured against Gilles’s French side, and ran out 2-0 winners with both playing 40 minutes each as coach John Peacock rotated his side, due to the amount of games in a short period of time, Young Guns, offered coverage of the tournament, to read more about it Click Here.

The award was especially impressive, because Gilles has struggled all term with a left knee problem which many feel has hampered his progress, but he has managed to become a regular in Steve Bould’s Under 18’s side, and after starting off as a striker, Bould has slowly moved him back to a right sided play-maker position behind Rhys Murphy.

Gilles is expected to sign a new professional contract in the coming weeks, as Arsene Wenger looks to push the £2 million acquisition into the first team for next term after injuries stopped him from making the Emirates Cup and Carling Cup squads earlier this season.

He will get a chance next season, this term has been difficult because he has had many injuries, and imo looks like he was rushed back, i agree with the poster above, that he needs to score more goals.

Adebayor is so selfish, had he passed the ball to Bendther then we woudn’t had this bad run. It’s time for him to rest and let’s start with Bendther and Van Persie.

I am very suprised to see that an English player did not win the award considering we won the Algarve Tournament with ease, as for Giles Sunu winning it i cannot understand that

Alex. I think it kind of harsh to blame that moment against Birmingham for all of our 8 lost points. However, I agree with your frustration about Adebayor.

Sanderson, you refer to Sunu as a “giant” whilst I was under the impression he is fairly short. I’m almost certain he is under 6 foot.
