Arsenal To Continue Scouting De Guzmán

Arsenal will continue scouting Feyenoord’s Canadian born play-maker Jonathan de Guzmán for the rest of the season with the view to making a move for him in the summer. The Gunners have had representatives at a number of Jonathan’s fixtures this season, and have been further alerted by Feyenoord informing the media that in the next few weeks Jonathan will get his Dutch passport meaning a switch to England would be made easier, for any potential buyers.

Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly had scouts watching his Holland Under 21 debut, against Estonia, where he bagged two goals as they ran out 3-0 winners, further adding to his impressive CV, which has developed quickly at the Dutch outfit Feyenoord, where he has become a regular after joining the club aged 12.

He is a central midfielder by trade, but can play all over the midfield, he is not the biggest, but agile and quick with an eye for a pass, he is also strikes a fantastic free-kick, and gets forward well to support the forwards, after making his debut aged 18, he has 18 goals in 83 appearance’s an impressive record for the 20 year old.

He recently signed a contract extension with Feyenoord until 2010, meaning he would prove to me more expensive for the Gunners than hoped, but a bid of around £8-10 million would be enough for Feyenoord to part with their prize asset.

i don’t know about anyone else but i am always less enthusiastic about links to us signing another diminutive midfielder with an eye for a pass. We could do with a more balanced playing staff in my eyes. For example only Almunia,VP and Ade are over 6 foot.

Well, as I always say, a good signing is always welcomed. De Guzman is a good talent who will add quality and depth to our game. I know everyone might be sick of me saying this but to replace an injury-prone player like Rosicky is vital.

De Guzman seems to be the type of player Wenger loves putting on the wings so it is not a surprise that Wenger is interested in him.

    Go for him, Wenger!

Do you mean that we could get a player with similar quality as Rosicky but can play more then 10 games a season? If that’s true then count me in.

He’s a very talented, but not good enough for Arsenal first team at the moment.
Also he gets criticised by his teammates very much because he isn’t willing to defend.

And also, i’m almost sure Feyenoord would accept such a bid imidiatly seeing that they’re in financial problems…

things that like can be coached, and developed so he changes his play. and Wenger is one of the best at that.

Finding the faults with players and coaching them better.
