Late Afobe Strike Saves Gunners – Arsenal 3-3 Reading

Arsenal’s Under 16’s played out a stunning 3-3 draw with their Reading’s counter parts this morning at Reading’s training ground, adding to last week’s impressive 1-0 win.

The game started off badly, when poor marking on a corner allowed Reading to snatch the lead, but, Arsenal then mirrored their hosts, Oliver Nicholas thumping a corner home to level proceedings.

But with half time getting closer, the Royal’s scored again from a corner in what was becoming a crazy affair, with the only real chances coming from set pieces.

Half Time – Arsenal 1-2 Reading.

Whatever was said at half time, made a difference as the second period saw a much better, fresher performance from the young gunners, with Benik Afobe coming close on several occasions, as there was a brief period with no goals.

However Arsenal would get level, after excellent work from Sam Byles, his cross found returning winger Jason Banton, who stabbed the ball home from close range to level the scores, with still time to go, the game promised more goals.

And frustratingly as Reading forced another corner, they yet again exposed Arsenal’s back-line to put them 3-2 up with only minutes left.

But things were far from finished, after being injured for the past 2 weeks, striker Benik Afobe took the ball under his spell, and fired him from 20 yards to level things late on.

It’s good to have Benik again. Shame to concede 3 goals from set pieces, but at this level the lads are still learning. Great match report. Keep up the good work.

Why is Jason Banton still at Arsenal, i thought wee had sold him for a £100.000 pounds because he was not deemed a good enough prospect for us in the future?
