yep, he could not link up with them until he was 18, due to rules which mean Brazillian players cannot play for european clubs till they are 18.

I’m getting weary of taking on this subject, but just what is the point of a loan if a huge club like Arsenal doesn’t have enough clout to add a “must-play” clause into the loan arrangement?

We’ve got key young players out wasting their time on the bench. First it was Gibbs, now Randall.

Millwall presumably have no choice with Simpson as he’s simply the best player in their side.

This is simply an outsider’s guess, but I believe that with the departure of David Dein and the fact that no director of football was named, Arsene simply didn’t have enough time to thoroughly sort out each of these loan deals.

We all know what a perfectionist AW can be and how he studies every move — and yet this year’s batch of loanees seem to have been shuffled off willy-nilly, which isn’t the Arsenal way, at all.

I’m just thankful that Barazite wasn’t shipped to some Championship outpost to sit the bench and then come on at 80 minutes to take the odd elbow in the teeth.

I hate to agree with Mourinho — about anything — but maybe he had a legitimate point with the idea of big clubs with so many players actually fielding teams that qualify as indepndent entities.

The theory would be perfect for Chelsea, with so many veteran players on the books, as opposed to Arsenal and all our kids, but the one thing it WOULD do is allow Wenger and his staff to control the playing time (and conditions) for valuable prospects.

Meanwhile, I have a couple of questions and greatly appreciate any answers you can provide. Feel free to reply to my private e-mail address. That would be fine.

I’d like to know if Carlos Vela is taking any English lessons during his time in Spain. Same question with Merida.

Seems pretty important that these players from other cultures are reasonably fluent in basic English by the time they get to London — especially since most are so young.

We saw the homesickness hit Jose Antonio Reyes, although to be fair to the club, Jose never really tried to learn English or find ways to be comfortable in England — as opposed to guys like Adebayor, Hleb, Rosicky, Almunia (an English citizen???) and so many of the others.

Besides the basic comfort zone the language gives these players, it’s also important for communication on the pitch. I read a quote where Arsene said he always wanted a goalkeeper who can speak English to avoid a disaster on crosses, etc.

Although on the humorous side, Senderos — who speaks five languages, I think — admitted that while English is the official language on the pitch, in moments of panic “you’ll hear guys hollering in three or four languages at once.”

Phil was laughing as he said that and I got this picture of a scramble in the box and suddenly the English-only goes out the window as everyone screams — in their native tongues — “Kick the damn thing out!”

Final question: As often as you’ve seen Barazite, where do you think he’ll finally settle at Arsenal in termns of position?

Like van Persie, sometimes he seems as though he could be comfortable anywhere up front. Care to hazard a guess?

Thanks for all the great updates.

I feel proud to support a club that develops talent instead of buying a new batch every summer. Kudos to AW and the board for supporting him!

    Cheers.
