Luke Freeman Scores On England Debut

Arsenal striker Luke Freeman scored on his England Under 16’s debut against Japan as the holders won 3-1 in the first game of the Montaigu Tournament in France.

The format is two groups of four teams, everybody plays each other once before a round of play-off’s to decide positions, with the top two in the group playing each other for a place in the final, the Semi-Finals are played on the 24th, at various times, with the final at 5pm in Montaigu.

England are in group A, and took on the Japanese in Le Poire Sur Vie, all of Arsenal representatives, started, Oliver Nicholas started at centre back, Sam Byles at right back, with Emmanuel Frimpong in the centre of the midfield and Freeman wide on the left.

Everton striker José Baxter set the Young Lions on their way from the penalty spot on 41 minutes, before Manchester United defender Ezekiel Fryers crashed come a second three minutes after the re-start.

Then on 63 minutes Freeman took his moment and netted to give England a comfortable advantage, with so many games in just a few days coach Noel Blake rotated the side, taking of the star players.

In the other group A game today, Germany took on USA and won 2-1, England are in action tomorrow against Germany, again in Le Poire Sur Vie, kick off is at 7pm.
