News Round Up – Irish Winger Linked, Banfield Reaction

Welcome to Young Guns, news round-up, giving you coverage, and opinion of all the articles from around the news-wires today, including reaction from last nights Reserve game, and latest transfer news.

First of all, were linked with a player i rate very highly, 17 year old Crystal Palace winger Sean Scannell (Pictured) has reportedly agreed to join us, the news is from Tribal Football via The London Evening Telegraph, he is one of Palace’s biggest talents, John Bostock gets all the praise but for me Scannell is the better prospect.

He is a Republic of Ireland Under 21 International, and plays either wide on the right or as a striker, and despite being just 17, has already 2 goal in 19 games for their first team and Chairman Simon Jordan has put a £3 million price tag on him, a superb fee, however he recently signed a new contract, and from the websites that report this news, i would very much doubt it would happen, but fantastic talent.

We were also linked with Fiorentina’s £5million rated Zdravko Kuzmanovic, with the Daily Mirror claiming we had already gone over to Italy, and made an offer, however in the past hour or so, his agent was contacted, and he completely denied it.

Now to news about players who are already at the club, Neil Banfield has spoken to Arsenal.com, about last night’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Underhill.

The Reserves coach seemed rather upbeat, but stressed more work needs to be done:

“It was a hard-fought draw for us tonight. In the first half I think we missed a few chances and were then punished in the second half when they broke away and scored. Overall a draw was fair

“We get back to the training ground now. Some of the lads though will be playing for the Under-18s against Cardiff on Saturday. It is a big ask, the fixtures, but that is part of being a professional player. Getting to grips with the mental side of things and preparing for games is part of producing top young players.”

Kieran Gibbs has pulled out of the England Under 19’s squad, which will face their Russian counterparts tonight, it is thought an injury has hampered him.

In other International news, Jack Wilshere, and Kyle Bartley were in action last night as England played France in Israel, as the Under 17’s played the opening game of the Uefa Elite round qualifying campaign, Jack played 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw, Bartley was left on the bench, and after being called up late after an injury Thomas Cruise had to watch from the stands.

Carlos Vela is out of Mexico V Ghana at Craven Cottage tonight, as we and Carlos Vela News, reported, he has a thigh problem and is a doubt for Osasuna’s game on Saturday.

I thought last night’s reserve game was as bad as the Pompey martch last week was good. Alex Song looked a class above everybody else but I was very disappointed with the way we performed. Virtually the whole team looked lazy and careless. They gave the ball away with gay abandon and seemed to always try to find the most difficult and unlikely route to goal. Gavin Hoyte was probably the worst offender; he had a mare! Anyway, looking on the bright side, let’s hope the next game returns more to the standard shown in the Pompey game.

I’ve seen some of Palace’s games this season and Scannell looks good along with Bostock but we should only buy him if we’re going play him regularly in the 1st team when he’s at least 19 otherwise it’s pointless buyig him because our academy and reserves are starting to get built up with loads of player we keep buying, not to mention the loanees who are coming back and Miquel from Cornella and this Iran youngster from Barcelona we’re ment to be getting. Plus isn’t Scannell similar to Theo anyways? we should concentrate on getting some world class players for the 1st team and not stacking up the academy if you ask me
    good post

Well said aj, people are saying were being too harsh on them, the pressure is on at Arsenal and last night was poor.

I thought it was slightly worse than the Portsmouth game.

I really hope so mate, as mentioned i like Scannell alot, he is top youngster and will go far.

Gai Assulin seems a litter harder as he would cost much more.

I agree with aj G.Hoyte had a shocker, and Nordveit doesn’t appear to be the dominant cb we are and will be needing still a good prospect and very composed. Most of the lads ho played that game will never make it I really hope rhys murphy can get back on track because if any foreign lad did what he did at the u-17 champs they wouldve been tagged as wonderkids.
