Weekend Loanees News – Randall, Vela, Simpson Start

Friday’s Results

Jay Simpson – Swansea City 1-2 Millwall

Jay Simpson started on the right of midfield as Millwall took the long trip up to Wales to take on Swansea.

The home side were boosted with striker Jason Scotland passed fit to start, on loan Manchester United striker Febian Brandy took a place on the bench, Brandy was a part of the Red Devils youth team that knocked Arsenal out of the Youth cup last season, in which Simpson was the Gunners skipper.

And they got the perfect start, with barely a minute on the clock Lewis Grabban slotted him his third goal in as many matches in a tight encounter.

But little being created, the Swans introduced the fore-mentioned Brady for Kevin O’Leary, but the visitors would double there advantage, and i would Arsenal’s loanee who would get it, firing home with 20 minutes left.

But Swansea would get right back into it, a foul in the box allowed Trinidad & Tobago striker Jason Scotland the chance to half the lead, he stepped up and converted, 2-1 with 15 minutes left.

Jay was then booked for kicking the ball away as nervous Millwall held on for all three points.

Vincent Van Den Berg – Go Ahead Eagles 4-2 FC Zwolle

Vincent Van Den Berg was on target for the Eagles Reserve side in midweek, the Dutchman started up front and played the full 90 minutes in the 4-2 win.

Aldo Joaquim, put the Eagles ahead, before Leonardo equalised, Rogier Gerritse then restored the lead, before Vincent slotted home to make it 3-1.

However a goal from Sjors Brugge (Penalty) made things 3-2, before Koen Garritsen wrapped up the win late on.

The first team, do not have a fixture this weekend.

Saturday’s Results

Kieran Gibbs- Coventry 1 Norwich 0

Kieran Gibbs was again an unused substitute as Norwich lost 1-0 to Coventry at the Ricoh Arena.

Things started badly for the Canaries as they went behind after just 6 minutes when Jay Tabb impressively put the home team ahead.

It went from bad to worse when Norwich had defender Gary Doherty sent off early in the second half for a second bookable offence and then to cap of a miserable afternoon, Norwich also had Darel Russell dismissed five minutes from time.

However the red cards mean Kieran is likely to feature next week.

Mark Randall- Stoke 1 Burnley 1

Mark Randall made his first Burnley start in central midfield against Stoke at the Brittania Stadium, after two red cards last week.
And the midfielder was involved in the only goal, coming racing forward and putting Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty through who slotted beyond the goalkeeper.

Randall had two further chances to get on the score-sheet himself, but was withdrawn on 63 minutes, but Stoke were awarded a controversial penalty in stoppage time and up stepped Liam Lawrence who converted to share the spoils.

Sunday’s Results

Carlos Vela- Osasuna 2-1 Almeria

Carlos Vela started as a left sided forward in a 4-3-3 formation as rejuvenated Osasuna played host to Almeria.

The home side, welcomed back Eduardo Dady and Jaview Portillo from injury, they took places on the bench in what would prove to be a hugely entertaining game.

With barely 6 minutes on the clock Kike Sola fired Osasuna in front, before Miguel Corona equalised shortly after Bruno Saltor had to be replaced with Lopez Rekarte.

But Cesar Cruchaga put Osasuna back into the lead 9 minutes later, the second half was flooded with changes for both sides, Hector Font and Eduardo Dady were introduced, as Carlos’s side were looking to increase on their advantage.

But it finished 2-1 another great three points for Osasuna, Vela was subbed on 91 minutes.

Fran Merida- Albacete 0-0 Real Sociedad

Fran Merida started from the bench as Albacete played host to Real Sociedad. (Result To Come)

Pedro Botelho- Alaves v Salamanca

Pedro Botelho was left out of the team to play Alaves after a recurrence of his foot injury

    Good for Osasuna. How did Vela play today? Sooo frustrated with the draw against Wigan! Doesn’t anybody like to SHOOT?????!!!!!!

    haha fair point mate.

    i dont know, i watch Vela every game, but because of the fixture over lap with Wigan today, i couldnt.

    But for him to play basically the whole game is encouraging
