Wenger – Simpson Has Future & Miquel Is New Thuram

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that young striker Jay Simpson could still have a future with the Gunners despite the fact his loan club Millwall are desperate to keep him.

Earlier this month, Young Guns reported that Lions boss Kenny Jackett has asked how much it would cost to keep the 19 year old, who has played as a right winger this term at the club, after his fantastic performances have helped Millwall stave off relegation.

Jay scored on his debut against Swansea in the Johnson’s Paint trophy, and has become an instant fans favourite, his pace power and attacking flair have caught the eye, he also picked up “Player Of The Month” award of the second time this season last month, having previously won it in November, and now in an interview with the Southwark News, Wenger is happy with his progress and could keep him.

“At the moment it is too early to say if Jay has a future, but I think so yes.”

“He has done extremely well and has scored goals. I always thought Jay was a very good player and the fact he can get good experience at Millwall makes us all happy, because he is not only a good player but a very nice boy.”

In other news, following on from our Player Profile on Ignasi Miquel, we have more information to bring you on the centre back, the sporting director of his former club UD Cornella, has had his say on Miquel in an exclusive interview with Setanta sports.

Andres Manzano confirmed that they accepted offers from other clubs, including Premiership rivals Manchester United, but the player rejected the move to United, after holding talks with Wenger who told him he would have his chance to become a professional player at Arsenal.

“Arsenal watched him three times and a when he played for Spain as well, “Their former player Francis Cagigao contacted us and asked us if we allowed Ignasi to visit their club and facilities.
We spoke to him while Manchester United, Valencia, Villarreal and Real Madrid were also very interested signing the defender.

“Miquel is convinced that Arsenal will offer him a career, he knows he will have the chance to be played there, whereas at Barcelona it was impossible for him to show himself.Maybe in four years he will be able to play for their first team. The fact Wenger took the time to speak to him made the difference, he told him he relies on him and that he has a future at the club.”

Manzano remained tight lipped on the actual deal, but Arsenal are thought to have paid around £900,000 for the prospect, with some on lookers already saying he could go on loan to Salamanca.

“I do not know if he is going to be loaned,” “I am not sure of the length of his contract but I think it is a five-year deal.

“We have an agreement not to communicate the price of the transfer and we will do exchanges between the two clubs.”

“He is a centre back who can play on the left side as well,” he said. “He is good in the air thanks to his impressive physique, because he is very, very tall.

“It is difficult to compare him to another player, but I think that Lilian Thuram is the player that resembles him the most.

Jay is a Gooner, keep him! What is the point of loaning out players like Jay if they play enourmous well at their “new” clubs but then never return to Arsenal cause the aren’t good enough?

thers no way jay has a future at arsenal. Wenger is just trying to hype up his ability thus creating a little bidding war from another club for him when the time comes to sell.

i like the work you put into the site and your research. thank you. but comments like: Manzano remained tight lipped on the actual deal, but Arsenal are thought to have paid around £900,000 for the prospect, are what turn me off to other sites. it’s ok to not know what was paid and not say anything about it unless we are sure. keep up the good work

Is Jay really that bad? I mean he went to another league and actually won player of the year, none of our loan players have done that before. Surely that counts for something?

If Jay’s going to play on the wing he’s going to have stiff competition from Walcott though.
