Arsenal's Under 16s Crash Out Of The Nike Cup

Arsenal’s Under 16s joined their first team counterparts by crashing out of the Cup yesterday, in the group stages of the Manchester United Premier Cup sponsored by Nike.

Despite winning the opening group game 2-0, defeats to Blackburn and West Ham coupled by a draw with Ipswich was a enough to send them crashing out, despite the best attempts of leading marksman Benik Afobe who scored in all but one of the Gunners fixtures including a stunning over head kick in front of England coach Kenny Swain, but it was not enough, they now must return to League action on Saturday against Bristol City.

The results are disappointing, but it is good to see Afobe doing well. Are there any other young prospects who you feel could break through other than Afobe?

He was too old to go to the tournament, but Samir Carruthers was very impressive, as well as many others.

Its dissapointing especially on the back of last night.

I hpoe that Kenny Swain picks Benik Afobe for the England U16’s team this year, P.S was Zac Ansak playing for the U16’s team because he is supposed to be one of the technicaly perfect kids that Arsene Wenger was on about a couple of months ago?

arsenal are not as good as west ham at developing youngsters but i hope arsenal prove me wrong. I feel we have great individuals but not a great team. anyway some youngsters take time to develop they may adapt when they get older so u cant really judge them by this cup

Managed to watch Arsenal and they were similar, albeit it less physical. Those lads can sure pass it round though

Above is a comment from a Man City fan i found on the net -shows there is a consistent way of playing throughout the club

My brother played for blackburn rovers and anyone who watched the games would have seen that arsenal were the best team there and played the best football. Only problem was they thought they were the best and i believe over confidence may have been a downfall maybe i am being pickie but it did seem that way. maybe the confidence will benifit them long term. good luk all players they were fantastic.
