Arsenal look set to raid Brazilian outfit Sao Caetano for their 17 year old play-maker Patrik, with a view to him being loaned to feeder club UD Salamanca for next season as a part of the agreement between the clubs.
Our good friends over at The Arsenal Way first revealed the interest yesterday, but Young Guns has used its Spanish sources to confirm the deal and that the player nearly joined Salamanca in January, only for him to pull out at the last minute, but a summer bid looks set to go through with the former trialist, who could sign for The Union on a year long loan as a part of the agreement between the Spanish side and the Gunners.
Portuguese sports newspaper The Record, reports that Patrik came to London for a trial 15 months ago and that our coaching staff were very impressed with him, however a deal was not reached and he returned to Brazil, where in recent months he has caught the attention of FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon but Arsenal have close links with Sao Caetano’s chairman meaning at present he is favourites to sign for us.
He is currently 17 and under Fifa ruling Brazilian players can only play in Europe once they turn 18, and it is thought Arsenal have been waiting for his birthday before applying for a “Special Talent” visa enabling him to immediately link up with the squad, as Patrik has previously rejected a loan move when we made the approach in January.
The transfer in something Patrik himself is in favour of, saying shortly after his trial:
“I have the dream to one day play in Europe, like any player has. But I am relaxed. First I want to go up to the Juniores, and then when I am 18, go to Arsenal.”
Our link with UD Salamanca permits that Arsenal must offer two non E.U players every summer to Salamanca, with Carlos Vela having gone there last season, and more recently Pedro Bothelo, Denintho nearly also joined that list however a deal was not reached for his signature.

“Our link with UD Salamanca permits that Arsenal must offer…”
I find this fascinating.
Could you clarify: For instance, what is our “link” called in legal or professional terms?
Secondly, does it “permit” or “stipulate”?
Thirdly, “must offer”? What if we don’t?
Not many details were released about it.
the link is like a collaboration between Arsenal and Salamanca, and in the agreement, we agree we will send them players from countries outside the E.U each season.
If we do not, then we break the contract, which is a legal document.
I wonder who signed his kit

people like Baptista , Denilson and Gilberto i would have thought
he looks like viera
So… that means that Arsenal HAVE to recruit at least one new non-european talent each season, every time we bring one over to England or move one to another club from Salamanca? (Am hoping I got that right, my head is a bit messed up tonight. XD;;; )
I don’t mind Arsenal having a deal with Salamanca to send our talents there though. :) Maybe sometime we could send over a really gifted English talent as well? If he gets to play, I can’t see how that would hurt him. :) Would be an interesting experience, I’m sure.
There was some talk of that earlier this season, about Sanchez Watt and Ahmed Abdulla going over, but we didnt want to, as they can develop better here.
Who signed his shirt? lol
I am french and I support the Gunners! I have a small question! Can you say to me if the matchs of Arsenal’s academy is diffuse on Arsenal TV? Sorry for my english!
They show the highlights of the games yes.
:) he is a great talent in fifa08..haha
