Jay Simpson – Hartlepool United 0-1 Millwall

Some Milwall fans could have been forgiven for not looking forward to this fixture, as the divisions top scorers hosted vulnerable Millwall, Hartlepool are comfortable in mid table however The Lions need the points to make sure they will not be relegated, manager Kenny Jackett restored Jay Simpson to the starting line up after his assist from the bench last week, with devastating consequences.

With just 11 minutes gone, Jay drifted in field from the wing, and after Turkish Under 19s captain Jem Karacan slipped the ball though Jay showed his composure to slot the pass into the net.

The strike would prove to be enough, and all but saves Millwall from relegation this season.

Former England International James Beattie fired home on 33 minutes, before former Scunthorpe United forward Billy Sharp found the net on 53 minutes in what seemed an easy three points, however veteran striker Andrew Cole struck with 10 minutes left on the clock to set up a nervous final few minutes, Manager Owen Coyle was looking for an added attacking threat, and instead of turning to Randall, on came Ade Akinbiyi and Joey Gudjonssen.

Good report JS. It seems Simpson, Pedro, Vela and now Fran are doing well but its a shame about Randall and Gibbs’ situation but it will make them stronger or AW can send them out on loan to another club next year because I don’t thin he would want to lose them because they seem quite good especially Randall. We already know that Vela is coming in the summer but who else do you think will come back and who won’t come back? and why?
    thanks mate

Gibbs leave? Even though Wenger was singing his praises only months ago? Any basis to this?

he is already 18, he has done nothing on loan, so has lost 6 months in his development, we have Vela coming back so he cant really play anywhere.

Gibbs doesn’t have enough ability to make it at Arsenal…and neither does Randall. Arsenal have better English players coming through that will make a bigger impact from an earlier age.

Wilshere over Gibbs, Lansbury and Thomas over Randall.
