Nicklas Bendtner On The Verge Of Something Special

Nicklas Bendtner, love him or hate him he is no doubt of one of biggest talents in world football at the moment and somebody who has burst on to the scene this season with mixed results, some impressive performances mainly coming from the bench to rescue points, and some poor moments with the biggest blunder coming in last weeks Champions League game.

The story of Nicklas’s season will be one to remember overall, his luck has been in and out, one moment he is in the right place at the right time to head the winner against Tottenham at the Emirates, and other times he has been in the wrong place, (his own goal against Tottenham at the Carling Cup), but one thing separates Bendtner from many other strikers currently in the Premiership and world football.

His confidence, strikers such as Emmanuel Adebayor,(just to name one) rely on confidence, when they go several games without scoring they drift and try to make up for their lack of goals by running the channels, but because Bendtner believes so much in himself, even when he goes on a baron run he still knows that given the chance he will get back on the score sheet, with the perfect example coming yesterday on the big stage.

The first half was a nightmare, he missed an easy chance right at the end of the half and with the Gunners struggling Gallas and Toure were going long to try and get the forward in to the game, however in the second half, he forgot all about the poor first period, and even when he had to play in a wider left position he gave his all and got his reward by flicking home Fabregas’s cross for a vital equaliser, showing that he can be up there with the best strikers in the world, he has the mental attitude as well as the talents to develop and become in time, an Arsenal legend.

One thing that stuck me is many fans do not take his services seriously, at 20 he is already in the goals for a big team, and his attributes, height, pace, power, energy and of course his confidence prove in time, if given the chance he can become a massive and vital player who is on the verge of something special, with Wenger knowing how to nurture a player of his talent, Arsenal will have a massive prospect in the future, remember he is only young and has already made a massive input to the team.

Bendtners quality for some one his age with (as far as i know) 4 goals in 4 international games hes showed how good he can be. Im lucky enough to have a ball he kicked into the crowd last members day, so have been watching his progress since then.

A good player. I feel his touch lets him down at times and he can slow our game down. But Wenger has high hopes for the Young Dane and i’m sure Nicklas will forfill those hopes.

He is no doubt going to become a great player in world football, and he is still very young, he has great control and I have been very impressed with him this season. He may come across as a bit arrogant but he has a right to be, most players around his age arnt playing much… never mind scoring crucial goals… and he scored 13 goals in the champoinship as a 18 year old.

Im glad that in the summer he had the balls to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal and not decide on a move to birmingham like Larsson and Muamba.

Would love to see him starting more and playing week in week out!

I’ve been on a lot of standard Arsenal blog’s and Bendtner is getting lambasted.. It really saddens me to see people saying that we should sell him because he’s not good enough and try to get about than 2 million for him. Also everyone says he’s arrogant but i don’t see that on the pitch. He never has a strop or looks moody. I’m sorry to say that at Arsenal we have a large element of the most frivolous fans in the premiership.

Bendtner has received a lot of flak at the moment, but anyone can see that he has huge potential.

People have been citing his supposed arrogance as a bad thing, but as you have stated, it can actually be a very good thing.

As I recall, he was the highest assister in Denmark’s European 2008 Qualification Group – this being a group which contains Sweden and Spain – and at the age of just 20, is already a fully-fledged international; hence proving his undoubted quality.

I don’t feel he is quite in-sync with the rest of the team atm, and can sometimes misanticipated some of his teammates movement. However, when you take into account that he is only 20 and in his first season at the club, you realise that this is something he will improve upon and master with time.

We would be foolish to let him go.

Nicholas Bendtner is a vastly superior footballer than Adebayor. Our stadium holds more people than Highbury used to but the percentage who actually understand what is going on is lower. We wasted Walcott on the left to accommodate the dreadful Eboue and then put Bendtner out wide to accommodate the greedy and ineffective Adebayor. Bendtner was really getting it going when Arsene brought on Adebayor and we lost all momentum. Why did the Africans (even Kolo, who goes mad when we score) all turn their backs when Bendtner scored and why didn’t Hleb win the game in the last minute?

Nothing racist Eboue is a terrible defender and an ineffective midfielder he doesn’t deserve to wear the shirt! Adebayor has had a licky run of form against small teams he is beeing found out! As for Toure he seems to have lost it… on the whole african players (nothing to do with the skin colour!) do not have the required mental strenght! they seem to lose the plot quicket than others!

I agree with Ramgun about Bendtner’s potential. But what I notice is that the whole team seems to be unhappy with Bendtner about certain things and treated him like an alien when he scored yesterday. Walcott was the only player who went over to congratulate him. I am worried he might leave the club just because of this.

Spot on J.S i was thinking exactly the same after the match yesterday. It would have been very easy for Nicklas Bendter to ‘hide’ after his mid week error and his miss yesterday. However he popped up with the equaliser and deserved more. A real prospect who i think will continue to become faster and stronger and over the next couple of seasons could and i think will develop into a prolific goalscorer at Arsenal. My main concern is how he and Adebayor will fit into the same team.

Bendtner has most of the attributes of a good striker. He holds up the ball very well at times, frequently makes some astute defence splitting passes and is a good header of the ball. In my opinion what he lacks at the moment, apart from experience, which he will clearly acquire in time, is sufficient enthusiasm. Very occasionally he runs at speed and shows he has pace but most of the time he seems to amble around in the last third of the pitch waiting to be given the ball. He appears to be rather lazy. To become a top class striker he must at times go back further to pick up the ball and then run at the defence with pace. With his build he could then becoms devastating.

I think the lack of unity in the team has been affecting the performances. Since after the match against Birmingham when Clichy made that mistake, things have gone downhill unity-wise. The players should close rank and support each other. We are not out of the title race and could still pop up to win it.

dave… also noticed that no-one celebrated with him, quite disappointing really. I thought it was because it was only an equaliser but maybe it was because he isnt liked by the rest of the squad.

Jimmy, you are 100% correct… we really have some frivilous fans… dont you think that ‘le grove’ blog is a disgrace?? Ive noticed that people on that blog hate the young players and only want tons of money spent on ‘world-class’ players. That blog is just set-up to get fans at each others throats! I’m never going on that blog ever again! Every point anybody gets shot down and ridiculed by some idiot who thinks they should be the manager.

Probly only bendtner and Senderos would have made that run in the box when he scored the equaliser…. he is great and would love to see him play more.

Wake up Arsenal players you can fight against each other off the pitch , but you need to fight together when you are on the pitch. Being arrogant is not such a bad thing for any sports person to have, it’s that self belief that keep the big stars on top of their game….remember Ian Wright?

Khan, i have deleted your comment, it is stupid and you have just made yourself look a wanker in front of your fellow Gooners.

Now lets get back to Nicklas.

i dont think the players didnt celebrate with Nicklas because they didnt want to, it was just they wanted to get the ball, and go and win the game.

in reply to a comment a while back from BG about african players seemingly not having the mental strenght i totally disagree. one reason wenger buys these players is because of their immense mental strength. from some of the backgrounds and poverty some of these players have emerged from they aruably have the best mental strength in the team. also you do not become an international or premiership footballer without having the correct mental strength.
i am not saying you are racist i just think you are making a stupid point.

One thing from the weekend and Bendtners goal. How many players joined him to celebrate?

    Answer: NONE.

I think he is a great player but he needs to play for the team as well. When he receives a good ball and he misses it, he should pick his head up and applaud the player passing to him.

He does not seem to care what others think or do, he wants to do well for himself and the team he plays for.

I hope he stays in the Summer, I think one of him or Ade will be off. I heard that Ade thinks he is now world class and should be paid accordingly.

Matt, yes i also think the ‘le grove’ blog is a disgrace. It is the most negative and depressing site related to Arsenal and the few times i actually felt the need to contribute my reasonable ‘positive’ point of view it was moderated out. I no longer read it or give them the gratification of extra hits to their site. As for Bendtner not celebrating with the rest of the team i think it’s a product of the situation in the game rather than them disliking him.. However i wouldn’t discount that at all. We do have an unfortunate history of cliqueness in the dressing room. I remember watching the crossbar challenge we did on french tv and thinking how strange to see alll the french players speaking french to each other and the rest kinda looking uneasy because they hadn’t got a clue what they were talking about. Maybe it;s just because it was on French TV.

i have noticed the players apparent dislike for bendner all season. i realise this sounds childish but it does really seem the do not want to pass to him unless there are no other options. if you look at all the goals (bar the winner against the spuds), the players just seems to turn around with no praise fpr bendner. theo is the only plaer to constantly congratulate him, (and RVP when he is fit). it very strange and not fair on the lad, and then of course there is adebayor trying to nut him!! not good

I’ve just been on thet legrove blog. Very depressing. Eboue Is no good as a winger and he’d be the same if he was chinese, white or whatever I preferred him at right back. Kolo hasn’t looked brilliant since the anc because of injury I think Ade misses Dudu and Rosicky in mu humble opinion. I’m really optimistic about the future so I’ll steer clear of some of those blogs.

Bendtner has impressed me all season long. The thing i dont like is how people that call themselves Arsenal supports not only do they not appreciate his services, but also HATE him which is something so cruel. I wish him all the best, but I do not see him staying at Arsenal for long. That is for 2 reasons, first his bust up with Adebayor (which looks like most of the squad were backing Adebayor instead of cooling things down) and the second is him not being appreciated by the fans. The Adebayor incident is unfair on him because it is not right for people to take sides specially that they are all in the same team. But the point that will push him out of the club is the fact that the fans DO NOT LIKE HIM. I love him regardless, as I remember how long it took Adebayor to adapt and it is noly fair to wait on Bendtner. So good luck to you boy, you are playing good and looking good.

I go on Le Grove site despite the fact they took me off. We are all Arsenal fans with different opinions it seems. There are more and more Gooners who seem to give up easily. I must say I am very unhappy with AW at the moment. Poor Poor decisions. The Mancs dropped points and with the right tactics on Saturday we could have been closer to them again. Bendnter hasn’t produced the goods just yet and for me i would hate to see him go as he could become great but how long do we wait for the finished product. I love the young players we have at the club. Eboue is a decent RB and never a RW. Kolo a good footballer but not a CB. Walcott could be a great striker but he isnt a winger.Diaby CMF not a winger Get the picture, too many players played out of position.

irrespective of all of wenger’s positivity these last few weeks, there are problems with togetherness within the squad. add to that the plain to anticipate and see lack of depth of the squad, and frequent poor tactics, its not surprising we are where we presently are in the table. still, i would rather watch us play than almost any team in the world though it does hurt so much sometimes

Nicklas is a class footballer and i can criticise the african players all i want because i am african myself from nigeria. Their attitude stinks with regards to nicklas when kolo equalised against the villa i think and should have gathered the ball and ran back to the centre all the arsenal player went to celebrate with him. fast forward sunday and nicklas is ignored the level of maturity shown by this player is astonishing apart from walcott. what i like about nicklas is he doesnt seem to care. personally they can all bugger off but as for nicklas i hope he stays around long enough to prove his doubters wrong. hleb misssed a sitter in the last minute and no one criticises

Nicklas Bendtner is certainly one to watch, and even if you aren’t intending to strictly watch him, at almost 1.9m he’s pretty damn hard to miss.
Anyway, I feel that while he may lack the ice-cold finishing that Drogba possesses and Michael Owen used to possess, he definitely has great strengths in many other areas, like his heading (interlinked with his height), control, positional play and strength.
Without a doubt, Bendtner will become one of the world’s premier strikers… if his ego doesn’t get too inflated.

Oh and by the way, apologies for double-posting. I just noticed some of the comments with regards to players like Adebayor and Eboue and even Kolo Toure.
I do think that last season, Eboue was really, really effective from right-back, which is where he should be playing, instead of right midfield. Kolo Toure is rock solid at stopper, thus I don’t see why some say he shouldn’t be played there. People do go through patches of poor form after all. And regarding Adebayor, well, aside from being Arsenal’s top scorer, he’s made Arsenal’s attack a lot more physical, which is a good thing. I don’t think Liverpool and Milan are ‘small teams’… Adebayor totally brutalised their respective rearguards.

I’m from Africa (Cameroon). Bendtner is a very good player and we should get rid of Adebayor asap. I also agree with most of the comments made about kolo, eboue, diaby and others. More than that Galas is not a good capt. Most (if not all) of the goals we conceded came from kolo and galas mistakes. Wenger does not like competition and is very stub. He should stop using players out of position. Where is denilson? Are Gilberto, diaby even flamini better than him? I would say no. The problem is that wenger often kills some players confidence. Why did he sale diara? We have got only 3 consistent players (fab, clichy and sagna). we should buy 10 good players (3 wingers) next season.
