Arsenal's Under 18s Win 3-0, Under 16s Begin Nike Cup

Arsenal’s Under 18’s went three points clear of West Ham at the top of the Academy League Group A this afternoon with still a game in hand, meaning unless things go badly wrong in the final two games against Bristol City and Fulham, they are all but guaranteed a play-off place and a chance to win the title.

In a rearranged fixture this afternoon, Arsenal made the trip across the capital to South London as Millwall hosted the young Gunners, Arsenal were by far the favourites as they are top of the league and scoring for fun whereas Millwall are bottom of Group A and have only 17 points compared to Arsenal’s 49.

The goals came through England Under 17s striker Rhys Murphy, his 6th of the season, play-maker Jack Wilshere also broke his recent baron run with his 13th goal of the season, before the impressive Conor Henderson fired home, his first Under 18s goal, adding to his growing reputation.

It finished 3-0, a fantastic result for Steve Bould’s side, they are in action on Saturday as they travel to Bristol City knowing a victory will guarantee them top spot in the League.

In other news, Arsenal’s Under 16s started their Nike Cup campaign today and got off to a flying start, beating Watford 2-0 in the opening group game, thanks to goals from top scorer Benik Afobe and then Afobe turned provider for impressive Under 15s left winger Joshua Rees, in a 20 minute a half game, star performances from defenders Nico Yennaris and James Campbell at the back will certainly help Steve Gatting’s side as they bid to reach the world finals held later next month.

How many goals has Afobe scored this season? He’s not in the goalscorers list, and I imagine its more than anybody.

come on, Adebayor was not that bad today. The ones who were bad were Hleb, Eboue, Senderos and van Persie after he came on.

We have a last chance to make something out of this season when we go to Old Trafford this weekend. There are three important things to remember:

-If we win we will be 3 points behind United and Chelsea (if Chelsea win) and still 4 rounds to be played.
    – United and Chelsea have to play each other (draw would be amazing)
    – United and Chelsea still have to worry about the CL while we can put all our focus into winning those last 5 games and hoping that United and Chelsea slip up.

If we don’t beat United, we can forget about it and play the reserve in the last few games. But remember, if we win United and United vs. Chelsea is a draw, all we need is that neither United nor Chelsea win all of their other games.
