Arsenal 6-1 Dorchester Town – Friendly – Match Report

Arsenal’s Reserves beat a team of Dorchester Town Legends 6-1 this evening, thanks to a hat-trick from returning skipper Jay Simpson, added to by a double by Mark Randall, and a strike from Nacer Barazite.

As we confirmed in our Match Preview, Mark Randall, Kieran Gibbs and Jay Simpson all returned and all started the game as the Gunners tore apart the Non league outfit’s former heroes.

Gavin Hoyte returned from injury, and partnered Luke Ayling at the heart of the defence, but the added quality of the returning Simpson and Randall added an extra class to Banfield’s usual side.

The Confirmed Arsenal Team

Mannone
Rodgers – G.Hoyte – Ayling – Steer
Ogogo – Dunne – Randall – Gibbs
Barazite – Simpson

Jay Simpson got things going after he placed home Mark Randall’s through ball. Then the 19 year old bagged his second which was added to by Mark Randall’s drive from outside the area. Giving Neil Banfield’s side a 3-0 lead at the half time break. The second period was dogged by changes from both sides, with Arsenal bringing on the likes of Szczesny, Thomas, Watt and Murphy as the game drew to a close.

In between the changes came three more strikes, Simpson’s powerful shot found the bottom corner to make it 4-0 and then Mark Randall banged home a stunning free kick. The scoring was rounded off by last season’s top scorer Nacer Barazite as he clipped the ball over Ormerod to complete the rout.

Simpson is now expected to feature on Sunday against Sunderland, and speaking to Arsenal’s match day programme he confirms he wants to make a career for himself.

“I want to be part of Arsenal’s future and you never know, I could get a chance in featuring in the last game of the season. That would be good.

I got a lot out of my time with Millwall and I think I did well for them too, but it reaffirmed for me that I want to play my football at the highest level and I will do everything I can to make sure that I can do that with the Club I have loved since I was a child.”

Yeah, especially as he has been out injured recently, so to come back and score 2 even against a rubbish team is great,

I hope simpson gets a chance, anything is better than Eboue at the moment. He’s a history-maker, the first person to score a hat-trick at the Emirates.

Yep, he deserves at least the opportunity to show that he can do, and having Gooners in the team is always special.

I went to this game tonight, was a cracker. Randall was on top form, and scored 2 very good goals.

I hope you are right that we’ll get to see Simpson, Randall, Gibbs and possibly even Barazite on the bench for the game against Sunderland. I REALLY hope we’ll get to see all of them play as well, either from the start or coming on as subs. :)

I hope Simpson will make it at Arsenal.

Do you think the fact that Ayling played is a sign of him being released?

Wenger often keeps Reserves on the bench for the final game, but its rare he brings them on.

Ayling could be released, but has finished the season strongly, so he could stay.

They played their last game on Friday against Israel. That means he probably didn’t fly home till Saturday and he must have been tired after 3 games in 5 days.

Norway beat Israel 2-0 with goals from Orry Larsen. The Norwegians finished third in their group, below Bulgaria (the qualifiers) and Iceland, but ahead of Israel. Nordveit started the game and played full 90 minutes.

Good job by Arsenal XI. It would be fantastic to see any of the Reserve players in action against Sunderland.
Last season we saw Mannone, Connolly, O’Cearuill, Gibbs and Randall on the bench but none featured. I think that is the only time Wenger has put reserve players on the bench for the final match. Although none of them played, it could be argued that players like Nordveit are much better than the rubbish Connolly and O’Cearuill and Mannone, Gibbs and Randall are year older than last year.

Btw. Isn’t Ogogo the one that everybody say is the funniest guy at Arsenal? Maybe he will be kept just for team spirit.

It will also depend on the score, it was 0-0 vs. Portsmouth Away last year.

If we had a 2-0 or 3-0 lead, I’m sure Le Boss would probably give them the experience of the Premier League.

i have a millwall season ticket( as my dad supports them0 as well as a arsenal one.

i watched jay simpson all of last year but im not sure whether he would be good enough. his best position is upfront but is also good on the right wing. his crossing has improved and has amazing pace

    he could play against sunderland

With the greatest of respect, Dorchester who? It would be less difficult to get excited about one of our players scoring a hat-trick were it been against a decent opposition so anyone getting carried away with Jay Simpson after this needs to calm down a bit.
