L'Equipe – Samir Nasri To Join Arsenal Later Today

Respected French sports newspaper L’Equipe claim Marseille play maker Samir Nasri will sign for Arsenal tomorrow afternoon, before he returns to France’s Clairefontaine training camp to prepare for the forthcoming European Championships.

Young Guns reported earlier in the week about the possible transfer in the comment sections, however since then Marseille based sports newspaper La Provence have confirmed the transfer will take place for a fee of €17.5 million or around £12.5 million pounds. L’Equipe claims it could be as little as €15 million, with the player due in London tomorrow for a medical and personal terms.

Only recently Samir signed a new long term contract to 2012, but it later emerged that included in the deal was a release fee between the aforementioned €15-17 million Euro. He is expected to be the replacement for out going Alexander Hleb, which Young Guns speculated could be in talks with FC Barcelona. So despite featuring as an attacking midfielder, Wenger it seems will play Nasri on the wings as he has done with Robert Pires, Alex Hleb, and more recently Tomas Rosicky.

Nasri is expected in London early tomorrow morning, where he will meet with Arsenal officals to agree personal terms, and undergo a medical at the Shenley based training centre. He will then travel to the Emirates Stadium where he will be shown around, before having pictures taken for the clubs official website. His day will end as he flys back to France at 19.30 hours for French national team training.

Even the Samir’s fans claim he is on his way to Arsenal !

Brilliant! Always like Nasri. His style is special and rarely do you see a player play the game with such elegance and comfort. He’s got skills and a good footballing brain but he doesn’t use them to showboat like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Quaresma etc. Reminds me of Zidane.

If he progresses properly I’ve no doubt that he’ll be world player of the year in a few years.

If this is correct then well done on the research. I am not quite sure how I feel about Nasri. Another creative midfielder playing on the wing. I am crying out for an out and out wide player.

    Anyway, Arsene Knows.

J sanderson, quality blog man, followed from a distance here for awhile. Live in france and saw the l’equipe article and you had a quick beat on it. kudos.

Quick question, what do you think this does to the Ben Arfa possibility. rumours were pretty strong on him too. I actually would prefer Ben Arfa, but Nasri is a really class player too. Just not a wide left winger type. Doubt will get both, you?

Reports in France and from what i have heared is Ben Arfa will be a replacement for Nasri at Marseille, as he said he wanted to stay in France.

Let’s not get too excited yet. L’Equipe does have a history of sensationalism.

I am hopeful – but I maintain a player in the mould of Ben Arfa, ie a traditional winger, would have been better.

yo JS since he is the replacement for hleb this must mean wenger will sign another creative midfielder and a flamini type. if hleb goes barce then we should do a swap deal involving yaya toure. i thin we should also go for aquilani as well. see wenger was right we don’t need big names we need big players and dats what we’re getting.

Nasri will get number 8, 12, 14, 16, 18, 23 or 28 when he comes and im guessing those are the numbers the other new arrivals will have to pick from. Squad numbers is somethig that makes the summer so good aswell because you don’t know whos gonna change and what the new players will get it’s bare exciting lol

I doubt a striker would get Henrys old number, Wenger doesn’t work that way. For instance Freddy got Wrightys 8, Gallas got Bergkamps 10. He thinks it gives unecessary comparisions if a player of the same position gets the old number of a club legend. Its unusual for the first choice GK to want anything other than the no. 1 jersey. Being the number 1 means much more to a GK than any other squad number to any other position. Even if Almunia keeps his number for whatever reason, I doubt anyone else gets the no. 1 instead, because Almunia is the no. 1 and it would send the wrong message however small Almunia himself feels it to be.

I think Smair Nasri will get the n.10 from Gallas, and make a lot of gooners happy.
just wondering wont his arrival cause Walcot more problems getting a first team spot?
I can’t see Nasri or Rosicky playing as a subs for the club, but that is Wenger’s problem with players like Gibbs and Wilshere knocking on the door too.
I can now go to sleep feeling happy after being assured that something big will happen tomorrow and thats thanks to you.

I understand, that Nasri will not play on central midfielder position, but on the wing. My question is – which one? Everybody says that he will replaced Alex Hleb, but what will be if Alex stays? IMO he will be left winger, with Hleb/Theo first choices on the right side, and world glass Rosicky as a cover ;-)

Guys, one at a time… If Wenger is to buy anyone who is going to play in Euro 08, it’ll be before the tournament starts, before price escalates.

By Euro 08, you’ll roughly know who we wont be buying.

Great news on AW getting his creative player, an excellent choice! He is not Hleb’s replacement, he is still on our payroll. IF he leaves, and the party line has never changed from AW wanting him to stay, then it is fair game for Theo or a signing, but Nasri isn’t his replacement.

Keep up the good work J.

Aulas has been quoted as saying we have made contact with him about Ben Arfa. He also said he’d prefer to keep him in France, but I think thats Aulas being crafty, he also said if the offers are the same he’d sell him to Marseiles, basicaly hes trying to get the price up like he always does. Strangely though he also said L’om have yet to make contact with him, so that seems to make the rest rather a mute point in my eyes!

Carlos Vela already have the number 29 shirt reserved for him. That was the number he would have had if he was recalled in January, and that is what he will wear the first time in arsenal.
Otherwise i believe that it’s possible that Randall takes on the 26 if Bendtner is changing, and Barazite gets the number 28. I just thinks those number would fit nicely to their names on the back of the shirt ;)

I hope will get at least 20 million for him and get Hatem Ben Arfa with that money… and the cherry on the cake would be if we could land Miguel Veloso as well!! I don’t agree with people thinking Wenger will add a centre back… He already sad that Song will play as centre back in the future! I haven’t heard him say that either Senderos or Djourou will not be staying… SO TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THINK WENGER WILL BUY A CENTRE BACK!! What makes you think he will do that?!!

I’m not sure whether Nasri is the player we’re looking for. He’s a fantastic player and could definitely add something to our squad. However the true question of this summer is can we add players to our squad not replace our players that has had a great season and that are now thinking of leaving. I don’t want Arsenal to start its rebuliding again. I think we must keep Hleb. Thinking of all the injuries Rosicky has had, Eboue, Walcott and Hleb will be too thin to match a squad like Man U:s for a whole season. Honestly, that has been way too evident this season and I can’t stand it another one. We definitely have the quality, but we need to dig deep now to find that killing mentality that we hade 03-04.

Then we played fantastic football with a killing mentality. Now it’s just back to fantastic football.

A dream would be to see YAYA AT ARSENAL! But i guess that will never happen!

I might be the first swedish guy who decides to have a few words at this blog..

Well, he’s a clever young footballer in the mould of the once great Didier Deschamps. He is said to be an intelligent football with good ball winning expertise as well as a good passing range. He currently plays for Paris Saint Germain as has featured int heir first team for the last 2 – 3 seasons having previously come through the PSG youth academy.
    His Wiki states:
Of all players likely to hold a long-term future with PSG, Chantome looks a good chance to retain his spot and develop further into a player of real class. His call-up to France’s U/21 squad in October of 2006 is testament to the regard in which he is held by the FFF.
And that’s a major reason why Arsene is keen on bringing him in. The fee is unknown but not believed to be a huge fee…

I read l’Equipe here in France this morning. Usually pretty reliable. it had a big article about Nasri, including long speculation about how he will play with Fabregas. There was also an article saying Ben Arfa is definitely his replacement at Marseille. Aulas says he is open to the transfer, and apparently at the end of their last match, Ben Arfa was very keen to find out if marseille had won and were in the Champs league. We can forget him, for now anyway!
