Sven-Göran Eriksson Set To Become Vela's New Boss

Manchester City boss Sven-Göran Eriksson is expected to be appointed as the new coach of the Mexican National team on Monday, taking over from former player Hugo Sanchez.

Despite not actually being fired from his job at City, his position has become under threat in recent weeks with Portuguese giants Benfica previously being linked with his services. However reports have since emerged that he has agreed terms with the Mexican F.A, and will be confirmed as coach on Monday.

Eriksson’s agent Athole Still had said earlier in the week that the reports were “hot air”, but another representative Juan Carlos Padilla leaked the news, saying he was excited by the challenge, and was just waiting for the final call to confirm they wanted to take him.

Meanwhile Carlos Vela is currently at the Mexican training camp in Mexico City, making preparations for two forthcoming friendlies, as well as important CONCAF World Cup qualifier’s. Under 21 coach Jesus “Chucho” Ramirez is watching over the side for the training sessions, but Sven could be in charge for their first friendly against Argentina on the 4th of May.

Whilst at the training camp Vela took time to speak to the local media, his comments have been expertly translated by our friends over at Carlos Vela News. He spoke about the importance of team team spirit, as well as wanting to win for the Mexican fans.

“My motivation is at maximum, because just coming to the Mexican Selection is motivation alone for everybody. Because to play a part against Argentina as well as Peru, plus playing the World Cup Qualifiers for your native country is a honour. As well as that you are in Europe and come over to Mexico, the target is that you always want to win for the Mexican people”

“Mexico deserving all, first of all deserving to win, being quarrelling over the best ones and to be always a part in World Cup’s.

You can see a full list of the forthcoming fixtures which Vela will feature in here, and be sure to check back for regular reports on Carlos’s fortunes.

Well the Under 21 coach Jesus “Chucho” Ramirez knows all about Carlos, but Sven has strong connections with England and with Vela playing for Arsenal it could prove to be very favorable.

Hmm…I wonder how much he’ll get paid. Surely be less than half of what he was paid for coaching England. Maybe just a quarter.

Anyways, glad Sven is Mexico’s coach. He has a good relationship with Wenger…so it could work nicely if Vela achieves World Class level.

Hes done good work at City and hes got that great track record. Even with England, if you look at it now, 3 quarter finals in 3 compatitions doesnt look so shabby (not that im suggesting we cant do better).

As for Mexico, well he’ll probably have an easier time of it that he had with the English national side, as they dont have such a great European league playing pool, and they have some good young players coming through in Mexico. Duno if he’ll do great for them but he’ll pick Vela, he likes the bigger names, and thats all i really care about.

As for how much he’ll get paid, probably alot less than we think, i doubt the England money’s ran out yet, then he’s got the City money and they’ll have to give the rest of what hes due if he has the sense to stick around oficially until they sack him, hes probably going to Mexico cuz they have alot of young talent coming through, and it’ll b a challenge for him.

Velas done ok for the Mexican First team, 1 goal in 3 (according to wikipedia). Svenn will pick him, hes heard of, hes not a bad player, and hes on you tube, basically thats what svenn looks for in a player.

Lol, yea probably not, i remember i checked Van Persie a few months ago and he’d scored 8888 goals for us or summin (i wish), but i know he’s played and i know he’d scored (cuz i remember reading reports on how he did on Arsenal.com (i think…or maybe somewhere else…but i read em for sure)). Could be 1 in 3, but still, Svenn will pick him, now all we have to see is just how good he is, and going on his record as a stiker AND a winger, hes not too shabby in either position. Although i agree with Wenger, he seems better suited to playing up front, however i sort of wish he wasnt looking at our depth up front and our sparse number of wingers.
