Trialist Sean McDermott – Arsenal Move "Looking Good"

Norwegian born Irish youth goalkeeper Sean McDermott has completed his 10 day trial with Arsenal, and after saving a penalty, and then converting the crucial one to win the Under 16s the Atalanta Cup, he is attracting offers from clubs all over England. But believes that a move to Arsenal is “looking good”.

“It’s fun that so many clubs want me on trial, and it’s also good for me that I have many options to choose from”

“I don’t know which club I will choose, but Arsenal are looking good. I will continue thinking (about my future)”

Sean currently plys his trade for Norwegian minnows IK Våg, and qualifies for the Republic of Ireland via his father Terrence, who also confirms he has had many offers to trial with teams

“It’s many clubs who are interested, and always new clubs who are contacting ours. But because of school commitments Sean can’t travel everywhere, but we have a lot of time left to decide.”

The coaching staff at IK Våg have recommended that McDermott should be promoted to the first team, as his ability and development are that of a much older player. His personal goalkeeping coach describes Sean as a quick keeper, both in his reflexes and in his reading of the game.

Arsenal are set to contact Våg and his parents in the next few days, in a bid to thrash out a deal for the highly rated youngster who has had trials with Tottenham and Falkirk. He also spoke about the fore mentioned Cup win, and admitted that the Arsenal players were better with the ball than those of Spurs.

“We had a very good team, so I didn’t had many shots to save, but I got to work a lot with my feet”

Quotes From 100% Fotball

The move may not be as simple as first thought, with Sean and his family not wanting to move to a club abroad until next summer, added to Norway’s rules on minors leaving the country could mean he will not join up with the Gunners for at least a year.

Every club in England wants this guy, and we have jumped the que to get him on trial and hopefully we can sign him.

But yes it is strong, but he has everything, talent and attitude and if we do not sign him, i feel its a huge loss.

I also have close sources mate, Charlie Mann is a good stopper but over hyped, and Sean McDermott is one of the brightest prospects around.

I always find it as a positive thing when we beat somebody for a player. I know that Nordveit is good because Barca and United wanted him too. I hope we sign this kid and he can become our number 1 in about 10 years time, haha. But really, he will maybe be in the first team squad in 5-6 years.

I think your constant hype of all these players making the first team and being the best prospects in the world are confusing people over who actually are prospects ie. Wilshere and Afobe.

Don’t be so quick to judge them as world class prospects JS, it makes your blogs look weaker when in truth, they’re very informative.

Too bad he don’t wanna represent Norway despite being born, raised in Norway, and having a Norwegian mom.

We could need some quality keepers in the future, we only have sh*tty keepers:/ Ireland already has a class GK in Shay Given! :D

I’m actually really exited about this. His father is very good friends with my father. Both of them are from Donegal. Would be great to see another Irish lad in contention for the first team.
