Arsenal In Talks With Werder Bremen Midfielder Bischoff

Arsenal are in talks with German side Werder Bremen for their 21 year old versatile midfielder Amaury Bischoff, according to French website DNA.fr.

The Gunners contacted Bremen six months ago to ask about the highly rated Frenchman, but have since moved for his services. The player himself says a deal has been agreed, and he will travel to London tomorrow to undertake a medical examination before putting pen-to-paper.

Bischoff was interviewed about the move, and says is just waiting for the boss to return from the European Championships before completing the transfer.

“There are some details left to finalize, and then we wait for Arsene Wenger to return from Switzerland.”

“I hope to sign within the next days”

Amaury has recently returned from a long term injury, and admits being frustrated with his injury, and feels now is the correct time to move on.

“Arsenal is a notch above Bremen. I have returned from a long period without playing, I think now is the time to change my surroundings”

Although he was born in France, he chose to represent the country of his mothers birth Portugal. He is an Under 21 international, and joined Werder from Strasbourg in 2005.

Bischoff is a elegant yet tenacious central midfielder, who can also play wide on the right hand side. He can use both feet with equal accuracy, and is firm and aggressive in his challenges. Very much in the mould of Milan bound Mathieu Flamini.

Big thanks to “Jerome” for relaying some of this information.

Name: Amaury Bischoff
Age: 21
Position: Right/Central Midfield
Height: 1.76
Weight: 65kg

As ong as he’s good and can replace Flamini, then we should go for him.

Personally I really dont see this as the Flamini replacement, he has just come back from injury and never played for Werder Seniors.

i guess we just have to hope he has pulled another Sagna out of the closet

I dont think Gilberto will move off, ive heard him say he’ll stay until his contract is up which i believe is now at the end of next season and then he’ll move back to Brazil to finish his playing career.

I dont get this Bishoff move. I know we like to buy obscure at times but this guy is 21 and has never made it to the first team at Bremen from what i can see in the 10 mins research i just did. He must be good if we want him…but still, makes u wonder.

He WONT be coming instead of Nasri as this guy is a defencive mid where as Nasri is very much an attacking mid/second striker. If we get Bishoff its as a replacement to Flamini, or to keep the current midfeild depth while some1 else steps up to fill Flaminis spot.

I’m assuming that if Wenger is going for him then he’s must be very good. I’m sure we’ve been scouting him for a couple of years and besides he has Frings and Borowski in front and they’re very good players. It’s like a while back Werder Bremen had a good player that we were linked with called Ozil or something and he moved on to Schalke to get games. It seems more likely we go for him than Veloso or Yaya (unfortunately) or Chantome.

I trust in Arsenal’s scouting judgement and ultimately Wenger’s.
I would personally want a 22-27 year old with big game experience in that position next season but if he thinks this guy will be good enough then i have no qualms; afterall we all didn’t know about Sagna when story broke he was signing.
Being linked with Arsenal at 21 possibly means he’s one of those exceptional talent gone unnoticed under the radar.

i sincererely hope that this is a hoax – i can’t take average players coming to arsenal anymore, i.e. flamini, adebayor, senderos, eboue. Wenger is the best at identifying talent hands down, but dear me he’s got to know we need a proven midfielder if he’s interested in the title.

The picture in the above link, in which Bischoff’s attempting to tackle Torres, suggests that he may have played for Werder’s first team.

Was the game a champions league one, or a friendly of some sort against Liverpool last season? If it was a friendly, it may not have been Werder’s full first team in action.

If it’s true that Bischoff is 5ft 9″, then he’s the same height as Marcos Senna, one of the current unheralded stars of Euro 2008.

When it comes to being a good footballer, size is not the issue…being able to play the game, and play it well, is what matters.

a friend of mine just told me he loves to shoot from range and score screamers, and is a good player technically. me personally i’m naturally skeptical because we have diaby denilson ramsey and song as potential partners to fabregas (ramsey obviously for him he’ll need quite a bit of time to adjust) but if this bischoff thing is true, then what can u do, he says “arsenal are a NOTCH above bremen” im sorry but what that spells out to me is “i will use arsenal as a springboard for a team in the future like barca or milan” – we really, really dont need anymore players like that – i hope its not true.

Just read a story on Adebayor. Its almost certain this guy wants to leave. He’s making demands from the board. I remember when Thierry Henry was here. He played his heart out for this team and never saw money as a factor in staying or leaving. Henry had 7-8 seasons when he scored 20+ goals a season.

There are sad things to note about Adebayor right now:

    1. He’s being brainwashed into believing his current net worth
    2. Due to his goals last season and point 1 above, his head/ego has swollen.
    3. He says he just likes to play football. Why? Adebayor’s reason for liking to play is because it satisfies his ego as a rare African hero (I’m African myself so I’m not being racist). Adebayor is not playing football because he loves the game. Whilst he might have some iota of likeness for the game, his main intention is to never be poor again. He intends to milk as much as possible money out of playing football. Over the last few years when he went to Africa to represent Togo, he spearheaded a revolt in the Togo football camp, asking other players to go on strike if the government didn’t pay the players money promised to them. From my knowledge of Adebayor, he is actually being a very nice person at Arsenal, I was wondering what might have changed him. But as they say, old habit never die, eh? He almost came to blows with his then coach (Keshi) and was omitted from the squad.

    4. Adebayor does not care about his future as a footballer like he says. All he wants is to have say £250m in a bank somewhere in the next 7-8years. That’s what he cares about. If he goes to Barca and sits on the bench or goes to Milan and gets benched after poor performances, he’ll sit back, relax and collect his bug pay packet. That’s how sad it is. He’s not someone who will regret making a move. At the moment, those who are calling him on the phone egging him on to cause trouble and threaten the club about leaving know nothing about football and have no care about his footballing career. All the thinking is about how big the oppourtunity is to get a big payday; afterall as time passes by and retirement time comes, he’ll have something to show for his footballing days.

5 He does not care where he plays, as long as he gets a six number figure a week.

6 What he does not know is that he is absolute rubbish without his Arsenal teammates. He knows he is really pampered here and wants to milk it. If £30m is being offered, I’ll flog him and buy a proper striker. And this is where I get very sad because selling him right now doesn’t mean Wenger will replace him with a proper striker. Selling him will be Arsenal’s gain and not a loss. It can only be a loss if we fail to use the money or buy a player/striker for cheap, who isn’t good enough.

I can understand Wenger not wanting to sell this guy but I have a feeling that the earlier we sell this garbage the better. I’m sooooo disappointed in him. He has been very malicious! Yapping about Arsenal buying him for £7m and that Arsenal would be making a profit when he gets sold on. Instead of paying Adebayor what he wants, I’ll cash in and buy Eto’o

Ok, fisrly i dont like all this avarage player talks. Ade and Flamini arent Avarage players (although Flamini has us to thank for that, he came on miles with us…alot of thanks we got for it).

If hes as good as some of the descriptions say he is then he’ll be a good signing, and he’ll be cheep to, alot cheeper than Veloso who would cost around 15mil+ and to be honest as some1 who lives in Portugal and watches Sporting, Benfica and Porto alot every year hes not all that. Good passer, good freekick taker although he doesnt get much of a chance to show that at Sporting, relativly skillful, good takler, doesnt score nearly as much as he should and has his fair share of dissapointing games (although he has his fair share of very good games aswell) but ive never been blown away by him. If we can get a player who sounds like hes on the same level for around 2mil, then id much prefere that than a player who’d cost 15 or possibly more (although Sporting and Benfica (more Benfica) tend to under sell at times, so Veloso could go for as little as 12, bit i cnt see any1 getting him for less than that).

I think people think real life is a like football manager, where you can buy a player, and if he doesnt work out just press cancel or whatever and he is gone.

Were spending money on his potential, as will be putting alot of effort into developing him. Its all the stuff behind closed doors that goes unnoticed.

The reason Bischoff hasn’t played for Bremen a lot is because of injury. Nothing to do with lack of quality. Bremen bought him from Strasbourg because they saw something in him but he was plagued by injuries and never got a chance to show it. I think he’s above average and I think we need a lot of midfielders.

LAck of depth is what ultimately killed our title charge last time round. Cesc and Flamini got tired and jaded and our midfiled became very leggy. If we can pack our midfield with a variety of players, it will serve us well. Denilson can stand in for Cesc, Flamini’s replacement will need a stand in, as well as the wide postions. Wenger is very astute and I’m positive he knows what he’s doing.

    Amaury Bischoff… remember the name.

Agreed JS, I agree everyone has their right to have a view on players. Some fans want the glitzy signings. But the facts are that Wenger has a proven record when it comes to find previously unheralded prospects. I’m not blind to any of Wenger’s mistakes, and he does make them (he is human), but my first reaction to this type of ‘signing’ is positive… Wenger knows what he is doing…

I watched a replay of the friendly between France and Morocco last night. Nasri set up the first and scored the second, he played very well, and Arsene was co-commentating…he seemed to be very impressed with him. Also, from what I can see, Nasri and Benzema are great friends, Nasri seems to follow Benzema around when they are with France, they are always next to each other, walk onto the pitch next to each other, stand in the line for national anthem next to each other…and if/when we sign Nasri, I think he could be a good ‘hook’ for tempting Benzema to follow sooner (if Adebayor goes) or later (maybe next summer)…

Also, I suggest all Arsenal fans watch ‘Zizou: le dernier match’, which is all over the internet, it’s a programme shown on French tv (Canal+) to mark Zidane’s retirement, and it shows a young Nasri playing (he looks about 5!), and talking about football. Think the Nasri clips are on youtube, but the documentary as a whole is a cracker…One shot seems to show that even at an early age, Nasri had a mentality of not being scared to shoot! (something we could do with at Arsenal)…

I’d be really disappointed if this player was going to be Flamini’s replacement. We already have Denilson and Abou who is very promising players in this position, we don’t need more talents. What we need is an experienced player, like Senna or Frings. Eighter that, or a more known player like Yaya or Veloso. Those are not that old, but is world class players who would add much to the squad. I don’t see this Bischoff doing that.

I trust Wenger in his choices, but I would rather see him spend some more money on a world class defensive midfielder. As I said, we have Denilson and Abou for the future, as well as some promising players in the youth teams.

Senna has experience, and has shown that he works well with Cesc. Why not buy him? He’s far better then Gilberto, that’s for sure.

This is a translation JS of what is says about Bischoff on the Werder website, interesting.

    Amaury Bischoff – 38
In the chest of Amaury Bischoff, strikes equivalently two hearts. On the one hand he was shaped as a part of Werder’s U23-Regionalligateam (where he missed only a handful of games since his change to Werder’s first team) in addition, still belonging for two years to the young players’ group, who are all trained in the professional setting and prepared intensively by Thomas Schaaf for the top league. On the other hand Bischoff, beside his good technique, his strong play and his overview also possesses two nationalities.
His large talent (and double-nationality) means that now two national federations are courting his services. Bischoff has already played for the U18 France team, where his father comes from, but he has also represented Portugal, the homeland of his mother, for the U20 tournament. Unfortunately he missed the tournament because of an injury. That nevertheless gave him the possibility of entering soon into the pre-season with Werder Bremen where he works on his game, his only professional participation was during the 2:0 win over Celta Vigo in the UEFA Cup round of the last sixteen 2006/07, in the coming season he hopes to play further games.

Andy4… I would rather he had 4 lungs than 2 hearts!!… that was the big thing about Flamini, he had more stamina than any in the Arsenal squad (and also was not afraid to shout at his team mates when he had to, I was sure he would have been a great Arsenal captain, c’est la vie!) Also, people go on about how multicultural our squad it, but Bischoff seems to be another who has joint heritage, something which seems to be very common for Arsene’s signings (Senderos, Pires etc etc)…probably means he will be able to speak a good few languages, which will help him settle quickly…

For next season he is not under contract at Bremen. If we get him, it´s a free transfer.

I’m starting to wonder if ‘Me’ is a spud…first there was the Lennon comment and now he suggests we should go for George Boateng! Why didn’t you just suggest we try to get Stefan Freund or Tim Sherwood to come out of retirement!!?

And how the hell do u know hes not got class? When Yaya was playing for Beveren no1 knew him, no1 rated him, he was shit on championship manager (to my disgust). You only know hes got class because Barca have signed him and hes been given a chance to show the world his class instead of the few hundred thousand followers of one league and managers + scouts who actually do their homework on the hot available talent instead of waitign for people to make it and then chucking tens of millions at their clubs to get their hands on them.

We have experiance in Gilberto, hes staying for 1 more season and can do alot to bring on potential starters with Fabregas such as Diaby, Denilson, Song and if we buy him Bishoff aswell. No im not suggesting Gilberto will play every game but he can still make an impact for us, he only looked bad last season when Wenger put him in the Makelele role infront of the defence.

    “george boateng? yeah okay…”
If that was sarcasm then i second it.

Whilst he does not say he is coming for a medical, he does say the transfer will be done in the “next days”, and when Wenger returns.

He finishes his work at Euro 2008 tonight, so if he’s back tomorrow.. then it would make sense.

Reading this comments page just gave me huge deja vu about sagna last year:

“OMG, AW IS BUYING A FRENCH PLAYER WE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF? THAT NEVER WORKS OUT SUCCESSFULLY! ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE ROTTING IN RESERVE TEAMS! LIKE VIEIRA, WE BOUGHT HIM CHEAP FROM A RESERVE TEAM, SHOCKING PLAYER!”

George Boateng = Really? Peter Crouch joke still way funnier.

Shame someone else made the Eric Bischoff joke before me. If they have the same blood line though we may see mutiny on it’s way.

Ade is well overrated. if we can get anything well above 25mill we should cash in and buy a decent striker. personally i think if we had someone like Torres or D. Villa as our striker last season, with the balls that Cesc feed to Ade, they would have scored 60 to 70 goals last season

Ethan I hate spurs they are rubbish. Boateng is a good solid player to allow fabregas to go forward more to score. stop laughing at my suggestions. i would also like us to sign Zhirkov from russsia.
