The Aaron Ramsey transfer story took another twist in the last hours, as Everton became the third club in two days to be granted permission to discuss a transfer with the 17 year old Welshman.
Having accepted a £5 million bid from Manchester United yesterday, it seemed he was all set for the Reds. But shortly after, reports emerged that another club had also agreed this price, which BBC Sport confirmed was Arsenal. Cardiff City had said at the time they had three offers, but only granted two of the clubs rights to speak with Ramsey.
Now it seems Everton were the third club, and have now matched the price City quoted them, giving the Mersysider’s the chance to put a contract to Aaron. David Moyes’s has taken his side into the Uefa Cup, and with Everton having a small squad he would be given more chances to play. Liverpool are also expected to make an offer for his services this afternoon.
As Young Guns reported last week, Manchester City coach Sven-Göran Eriksson had been in talks with the Mexican F.A about taking the vacant managerial position. His appointment would mean Sven will be working with Arsenal’s Carlos Vela, and would oversea his development at international level.
Yesterday afternoon it was confirmed he had taken charge on a three year contract, after City had terminated his deal with immediate effect. Overall i would say this is a great appointment for Vela, as Eriksson has contacts in England, so Carlos could get beneficial treatment.
Finally, one of the greatest and most respected Arsenal bloggers around is back!. My good friend Jammathon from Third-Gen returned in the late hours, giving his topical and controversial analysis of all things Arsenal. Be sure to check it out, even if you’re bored the comments are hilarious.

I think that Aaron Ramsay looks like a very good young football player but i do not think he is better than anything we have here at Arsenal like say Jack Wilshere for instance
I take you’re point, but Ramsey has played in the Cup final, and scored goals in the FA Cup.
Wilshere has had a good season in the Under 18 league. MASSIVE difference between the quality. Why can’t we have both players?
I would love him to sign for us and i agree with you J, why can’t we have both.
From what i have heard about Ramsey is that he can play basically anywhere in midfield plus as a second striker if needed. wouldn’t be able to doubt our depth of squad if we had someone that could cover like that.
J you think that Wilshere will get a go in CC or Fa cup this season?
If Wenger has only 25m to spend(inc wages) why is he wasting 5m on Ramsey? I know it sounds harsh, but Ramsey is not going to strengthen in the areas we are lacking.
But who else do you know for 5mill that could cover the whole of midfield and also be another one for the future?
He will never come to us lets face it . I think we have a better player than him “CARLOS VILLA” !!!!!!!!!!!!
We can have both but from a football point of view i dont think it would make much sense for him to come to Arsenal, Liverpool or even Manchester United at this stage of his career because he would go from playing first team football at Cardiff too playing in the reserves for probably a season or more, but if i was him i would go to Everton because he would get first team football more quikly and David Moyes is always willing to give the kids a run out like James Vauhgan 16, Wayne Rooney 16, Jack Rodwell 17 etc etc IMO
Clocko, could he really cover any midfield position right now?
Would he be above Denilson, Diaby, Randell and co. in the pecking order?
wenger shuld have finshed Nasri’s deal. Astef the EURO 2008 it will be dificakt for arsenal to sing him .
Mate good shout, i didn’t veen think of Vela. I still think that to add to the depth we have he would be a very good signing. As i said on yesterdays bit about him though. I see him going to Man U as they will loan him back to Cardiff so he won’t be missing out on games and he will be able to link up with his idol Giggs.
I think Aaron ramsey will go to Everton I dont think he’s ready for a big club no disrespect to everton but i think he needs to be at a club with less pressure to perform so that he can devlop more.
He can play ANYWHERE in midfield. Left/Right and those qualities are fantastic. Like Clack said.. for £5 million.. bargain
Arsenal can get Ramsey and loan him to Everton…he want to play in the EPL right? ..he does not want to go back to Cardiff!!
He wants the EPL!!

According to reports on this youngster, don’t ask me to quote a link cos this was yesterday, that Wenger wants him to challenge for the first team if he gets him. Hence the reason that he won’t go back on loan at Cardiff which is initially what Cardiff wanted as part of the deal.
And although i would love another nickname it’s Clacko mate not Clocko :-)
we have willisher we dont need him
I hope Ramsey makes the right choice and comes to us. I also hope this doesn’t drag on and it’s sorted by the start of next week.
oh and theres a picture of Gallas, Cesc and Theo in the new Arsenal kit dunno if its real the links here

I don’t think it will drag on cos there are 3 clubs offering him a deal. Also if it does this is one that i wouldn’t mind it dragging on with. Imagine you being in his shoes at that age and having to make a decision on your future like that. We would all say screw man u and sign straight away for Arsenal but for someone with no following of either of any of the teams after him what a decision to make.
First post, great site here by the way. I saw him for the first time in the FA cup final and he didn’t look out of his depth at all, made a positive impact, so definitely a bargain.
My question is, do we know anything of his personality from interviews etc? Will he be patient and modest like Walcott?
Sorry Clacko, my eyes couldn’t make out the tiny text!
If Ramsey is sensible and thinks about his long term career he will chose Arsenal or Man utd.
I am a firm believer of Wengers ideology that a kid in class is only as good as his class mates, going to Everton may teach him bad habits and stunt his ability.
Firstly great site.
I dont understand why everyone is saying “why bother we have wilshere, randall etc etc etc” erm other than Toure & Gilberto I think, who in this squad never mind Randall, Wishere & co have played in an FA Cup final! I know the kids got to the league cup but FA Cup is different. He’s played consistently in the Championship which is miles above under 18 league.
I wont claim to know much of him but for the top clubs in England all bidding (except chelsea) it would seem this is a rare player in the north of England that went unnoticed by the big boys.
Where he goes is up to him, but if I where him, I’d move to Everton for first team football.
The thing about this kid is that wherever he moves to he is going to be thinking right i want to stay here for a while. Can anyone honestly say that Everton wouldn’t just be a stepping stone? They haven’t the squad or funds to challenge for Champs league or for the Prem so i think this doesn’t involve Everton. It will just be a toss up to decide whether he wants to win trophies at Arsenal or watch Arsenal win trophies by going to Man U ;-)
Hows he going to link up with Giggs, is giggs really going to be around next season or the season after that.
Man United will never give him a game. If he has any sense he’d chose Arsenal, the best club in the world for a young player with talent.
I think Everton would be the best place for Ramsey out of the three, he would get more football, and Moyes is a good manager. Still think he should stay at Cardiff for another season though.
1) Ramsey is a level headed kid, very smart and close to his family
2) welcome along all you new commentors.. brilliant o have you here :D
3) depth is important as mentioned, even if its a young player, Ramsey could play in the cup whilst Walcott or such is rested.
what about the new kit what do think of it J.S ?
Some of the comments above are quite shallow. Why do we need Ramsey when we got Wilshere? What do you mean? Why did we buy Rosicky when we had Fabregas? Do we even need Vela, Walcott, Dudu, Nick and RvP? I mean, we do have Adebayor.
A team is more than any one player, and it’s more than just 11 players. We need a strong squad and Ramsey can be a very important player. He could fill in for Fabregas, Nasri or Rosicky and really help us when we are playing a lot of games.
The Daily Telehraph are reporting that we and Spuds are fighting it out for 17 million David Villa. I really can’t see us buy him and if we do, RvP or Adebayor must be on their way out. But I doubt that they are so I don’t think Villa is coming. On the other hand. If Spuds buy him then Berbatov will probably sold to finance it, probably to Man U.
Very interesting point at the end of this article from Teamtalk: http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1766_3649090,00.html
They point out that Ramsey has two good friends at Tottenham, Gareth Bale and his best friend Chris Gunter. That is suppossed to be in Arsenal’s favor as he might want to be around those guys in North London. It would be quite ironic if Spuds would actually help us sign this kid.
I still think he will go to Man Utd but the longer the wait, the more chance I think we have. United were always the front-runner because of their reputation and because of Giggs. So if he is sure he wants to go to Giggs than he might well sign for United tomorrow. But if he doesn’t sign in the next couple of days, that means that he is considering his options and Untied might not be favorites anymore.
We have also often won a race for young players, for example Nordveit and Walcott. Usually the main reason we lose a race if because of the price, like for Pato and Ronaldo (I think). But now the price is no obstacle as our offer has already been accepted.
I’m sorry I keep on adding new comments over and over again but I just had to ask you about this:
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3649183,00.html
Do you think Arsenal are seeking this Zapata guy? Personally, I had never heard of him, partly because I don’t watch Seria A.
“Do you think Arsenal are seeking this Zapata guy? Personally, I had never heard of him, partly because I don’t watch Seria A.”
I saw him once and he looked good but i wasnt really watching him specifically so i didnt really analyse his personal performance.
does ramsey count as a foreigner coz if he isnt that will help us wiv the 6+5 coz u cant expect all of the players wanting 2 wait 2 get in the first team
ramsey better get here soon.
if wishshere, gibbs, lansbury, randall and others played for cardiff they would all have been in the fa cup final.. dont get so excited…
rene is alright hes 17 if jack wilshere was at cardiff he will be first team if someone like daniel drinkwater or galbraith was at cardiff they would be to.When arsenal played cardiff in the youth cup no one noticed or said that kid is amazing because he was average against are youngsters.Jay Simpson was the only kid that night that stood out dont see man u and everton bidding for dont care if there is a 2 year cap
