In light of Amaury Bischoff’s proposed transfer to Arsenal, i caught up with A. Zimmermann from Carlos Vela News to discuss the 20 year old midfielder. Alex is from Berlin in Germany, and we put a whole manner of questions to him analysing all aspects of Amaury’s playing style.
Could you start by telling us in basic terms about Amaury Bischoff?
“Amaury is a very quick midfielder, he has a great vision on the pitch and a really good passing ability. I see him more as a offensive midfielder rather than a defensive one because he can also play wide on the wings. Another special quality is that he is a great tackler. Overall a really good talent, but he needs to improve a lot to play a major role at Arsenal.”
What special quality’s will be bring to the team?
“His vision to find a teammate on the pitch is his best quality. He can bring to the team energy and pace, as well as a superb long range shooting ability.”
What do you think about him coming to Arsenal?
“It is a unbelievable step for the young man to make when he finalises his transfer to the Emirates. At Bremen he only played for the Reserves but he had his first team debut as he was a substitute against Celta Vigo, and he played the final 16 minutes. He is definitely a special talent which Wenger can develop in to a marvelous star.”
Could you tell us a little about his personality? and how much do you think he is worth?
“About his personality i cannot say so much. I see him playing against Hertha Berlin Reserves in Berlin and he showed he is a leader of the team, and motivates his teammates. I think at the moment he is worth a Carling Cup chance or maybe a place on the bench in the Premiership. He is so talented that he will be not play on Reserves level [for Arsenal].”
Which players would you compare his playing style to?
“He is a real mixture of players. Similar to Aaron Ramsey and Jeremy Toulalan, with a bit of Samir Nasri.”
Thanks for your time Alex.
It seems he is a versatile box-to-box midfielder, and a little more creative than Mathieu Flamini. his injury problems could be a real concern, but he clearly has some serious talent.

Sounds gd but still dont see the need for another youngish CM when we already have: Cesc, Denilson, Diaby,Nasri,Ramsey and Lansbury who are all young CM’s. If he turns out to be a great player then fair do’s but i cant see him being good cover for this season meaning if we get any CM injuries we are abit buggered. Nice reporting though JS
Please don’t let him be anything like Toulalan! Soooooooooo overrated! Nice interview JS, but from the sounds of it, this guy is the best player in the world! (apart from the Toulalan bit)…
Hardly a Flamini replacement if you ask me, but we have seen weirder things happen in football. I think if we do end up signing him, we will see what he is made up of in preseason. remember, it was Flamini’s form last summer which got him a starting role at Arsenal. I think he is more a replacement for Flamini because I can’t see the logic of signing another attacking central player
seems like we’re getting a very talented player on the cheap. Well done arsene.Great work J.
Jay, what are the chances of this signing actually happening?
Will Nasri and Bischoff be unvieled together?
will there be another surprise signing unvielled soon?
Wasn’t too impressed before, now apparently he aint even a defensive minded midfielder I am less enthusiastic.
Sh*te thats all we need, yet another effin offensive CM who maybe possibly perhaps could play on the wing.
Please be bullsh*t please be bullsh*t!
Toulahan is great for Lyon. Just because he’s had a shit tournament (hey, that must mean that Gallas is shit too! And Ribery! And Benzema!) doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. In fact, after the Euro’s, I thin he’s severly underrated.
Arsene Wenger buying French players lost in reserves has ended up with Paddy and Thierry. I’ll think i’ll wait till I see the kid’s role in our team before I go as batty as most of the internet.
Spike: Calm. He costs little more than every kid we buy (may cost less than Nordveidt), isn’t guaranteed a starting place and adds what we really need (depth!). Also, since when does Wenger get it wrong buying French players in their early 20s? I can’t think of one who has been a failure. Well, Diaby’s the closest I can get but Sunderland broke him and then he played in the wrong position.
Okay, this guy is brilliant at everything apparently but needs to improve alot to play for Arsenal. Makes sense. Not.
mate lol – benzema didnt have a shit tournament, lets not get carried away, against italy he was top notch, drawing defenders with his trickery and pace, it was the others who flopped.
Samuel, Gallas is shit! This guy sounds pretty much identical to Ramsey though which doesn’t fill me with confidence, although he is more ready than Ramsey due to his age.
I’m sure this signing will reassure the players who haven’t already handed in their transfer requests.
arsene knows
So will it be a summer of Bischoff and Madlung. Two mediocre players from Germany with little to none experience
Ro: Gallas is not shit. You are downright silly if you think this. A player who’s lost his confidence, yes. Shit, NO.
Paulinho: You’ve just described every signing we’ve had in the past 12 years. How’d they work out for us? Oh yeah, we got relegated.
Arsenehollis! Yes, probably. Just firstly Nasri, plz :D
Jay, we seem to be linked to and actually are signing a lot of young talented midfielders lately. So what does this mean for Randall and Lansbury? I was hoping for big things from both of them but now I feel that neither will get a chance at Arsenal and both will be sold on. I am beginning to think AW is biased against English kids.
Samuel; Piss off back to Gunnerblog!!!! Hahahahahaha!
I have decided that Biscoff is shite and I’m sticking with that opinion!
i think we got a mixture of nasri/ben arfa on our hands. and the player to me emulates a bit of veloso, but more of Frank Ribery, dont you think? Yeah i think he is like a frank ribery player, who can play wing or behind the striker, who has not been seen due to injuries being picked up. well fortunately for us we are going to sign him. sikk 1 wenger sikk 1
This is exciting. But, how do we know he is injury prone? Having one long-term injury doesn’t make a player injury prone, unless it’s something debilitating or recurring, like Kompany’s back problems. Does anyone know anything about Bischoff’s injury history?
I’m really glad there will be 7 subs allowed in the prem this year, should give us a chance to see a bit more talent maybe, more chances for younger players. Great news as far as I’m concerned.
Bischoff sounds like a good signing. Ahh the life of a football scout.
UntouchableH;
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
So, we are resigned to scouting for players in German reserve games??? I can just imagine the quality on show there.
i am sorry my tap shoes are in the cobblers, otherwise i’d be doing a celebratory little jig right now.
Word of caution, this young man we don’t know him that much and that doesn’t mean that he can not play. Besides his injury which he has no control of it, he is very promising talent which fits Arsenal. I will not discount him because I don’t know him or he was not on the first team. Until I see him play more than enough I will hold my tonque and keyboard. Also no one said he will be Arsenal starting midfielder therefore there is no burden on him to be a super star or house hold name.
lest we forget none of us could possibly even imagine or create what wenger has so maybe best ya just stop your whining. if Le Boss buys him ,he buys him and thats that i mean really wtf gives anyone on a blog the insight that they would know better criticizing is only constructive when it comes from an intelligent source so until we actually watch him and see what his talents are maybe hold back the oh so witty comments
I have nothing against signing potential, young players, shit why would I?
BUT, when we have seen 1st team players leave and others on the verge of leaving, do you not think that we really could do with a signing who may be of a level to come straight into the team? You know like Sagna?
This for me is an effin ridiculous signing. it smacks of small time, small mindeness.
The guy has been in Germany 3 years and not featured in the 1st team. he has not played for a long time due to a catalogue of thigh injuries, sheesh, sorry if I aint excited.
jeez, if you’re after an intellkigent source, you’re be waiting an effin long time.
This is a football blog.
THE HOME OF MINDLESS BANTER
js do you think the deal for him and nasri will happen on july 1? or is their complications in the nasri saga because of the transfer of ben arfa to marseille
This bloke sounds like the next Stefan Malz. What an inspired signing he was…
I really hope for another player to fill that DM role. AW should pay up for Veloso.
Wow a reserve team players from a mid table German club. FFS this must be on the level of a Seb Svard signing. Chels and ManU must be shitting themselves. Still 2m is all we can afford. We really are and act like a small time outfit and no wonder players are queuing up to leave.
he is like ribery from what i hear not veloso. very fast, eye for a pass, and can shoot. all sound like ribery’s attributes.
Stefan malz! I forgot about him! What about Alberto Mendes then?
Spike, I remember Stefan Malz also being left footed…The similarities are frightening – heh.
I’m scratching my head about this signing…
Hey I’ve seen this guy play before, he was brilliant!
I think he was number #1 at one point, but that was back in the 80’s.
Heres a video of him in action…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0
Has Wenger finally gone senile? A reserve player who has been around 3 years and been injury prone as well. FFS. The likes of Randall,Lansbury and Merida must be thinking what do we have to do to convince our fucking senile manager that we should be given a chance instead of spunking 2m on this cripple.
After Ade’s comments about wanting Henry like wages, love and worship, having this signing announced aint exactly gonna cheer Gooners up is it?
Not the Bisch’s fault (thats his nickname I’ve decided), but couldn’t half do with some good news.
Fabregas and Spain win the Euros. Winning is a habit and now our little maestro has got his first bite out of it. Now its time for Arsenal. 08/09 here we come!
Where’s it say he was £2mill?
Thats not exactly small change now is it?
Sniff;
Can’t say I understand it either? We have an abundence of young CMs.
I am beginning to share that sentiment Dave. It seems like the English lads have to leave Arsenal to get 1st Team footy. Frustrating to see good players go to other teams.
Erm…. What English players? Whose left?
I agree with Dave. I said this signing was rubbish and he is a crippled mess who can barely walk 2 yards without getting injury. Rubbish! Proven talent is what we need not this disabled moose, someone like yaya or toulalan or michael carrick.
What’s the problem here? Looks like we’ll sign a guy with potential, but low expectations for himself; His stock is only low because of injury, not lack of talent. Looks like a perfect squad player to me, and we needed more of those last season. This guy will not agitate like Diarra did. And we’ve lost 2 Cms lately – it would’ve been negligent of Wenger not to bring at least one in.
The Malz and Mendez comparisons are unnecessary – the Bundesliga is infinitely more competitive now than it was back in the day. But as an omen it’s not a bad thing – although we barely saw them, those lads were in the squad when we were winning the lot.
Big Al;
Loving that optimism baby! Im only teasing about the mendes and malz comments. Does seem all we do is sign unproven CMs tho innit?
Me; funny as cancer you is.
Nordtveit? Now there IS a player I have high hopes for. 4th choice CB next season
Samuel; Piss off back to Gunnerblog!!!! Hahahahahaha!
I have decided that Biscoff is shite and I’m sticking with that opinion!
Spike said this on June 29, 2008 at 6:06 pm
It’s people talking shit like this that meant I am avoiding gunnerblog for silly season. The fact that people are going mental over him supposedly being a superstar flop is absurd. Firstly, if you were to believe every bit of talk about our club buying players, we’d have Veloso, Zapata, Nasri, Bischoff, Chantome and Diogo. Secondly, why is every signing nec. seen as an important first team player? Diarra and Fabianski wasn’t, yet there is nothing wrong with Wenger doing what we so obviously want him to do (make the over-all squad stronger).
Hell, from what we know of him, I’d expect Diaby to be no. 1 and Bert no. 2 with Denilson and this guy learning to take over. I bet he plays about as much as Randall and Ramsey.
He might not turn out very good. But then we make 3m every match day. :D
I don’t know about this kid. I just really don’t like this idea of Arsenal fans bitching all the time that we have no strength in depth and as soon as we look to be trying to sort the problem, everyone bitches about it! And this kid really isn’t the replacement striker for Ade now is he, he’s just competetion.
It also indicates to me that AW is starting to get some power back. After many years of: “I missed out on that player when I saw him at 17, I knew he’d be a star”, this very much looks like “I saw him at 17, knew he’d be a star, lost out but now have the balls to try and do the same for more and a little later on.”
He’s not the signing that dictates our summer and I won’t judge him until we see how he plays. If he even signs.
Does seem that way Spike, but after all the Adebayor tedium I’m just happy to hear about a likely arrival, however minor. Any guy without a whirlwind of hype around him is fine by me at the moment.
first you cant say he is shit if you aint seen him.
second you cant say he is good unless you seen him.
third you cant say he is injury prone because he has had long injury.
fourth he could be like clichy had bad injuries at the beginning of his career and turn out to be a star like clichy but a cm 1.
Samuel; I think your underpants are too tight. They are restricting the flow of blood to your brain.
That and the sense of humour bypass operation was a complete success I see.
I make no aplogies for having a bit of a light hearted dig at this news, not after the Ade b*llocks anyway.
Why would we wanna sign 1st team players anyway? When we have the likes of Eboue at RM, Diaby LM and no Flamini replacement, never mind the CB we were signing.
oops, but I’m going off on one again aren’t I?
We haven’t signed him yet and if we do, why not give the player a chance before writing him off? Gael Clichy came from a 3rd division team in France and Kolo Toure came from ASEC Mimosa in Ivory Coast, but I don’t hear anyone complaining about how they have turned out?
Tell you what, that Kolo and Clichy have turned out kinda shite innit?
As Spike said – just teasing with the Malz comparisons. I am just not sure of the purpose of this signing. Who knows though AW might play him as a winger?
Yea whats all this bollocks about proven talent? How many of our players where proven big league talents when they joined us?
Ill Tell u:
Rosicky, Van Persie, Hleb, Gilberto, Gallas, Sagna, Eduardo (maybe not big league but proven on the international stage).
Thats leaves:
Almunia, Clichy, Toure, Fabregas, Flamini (ok gone now but he wasnt proven when we got him), Eboue, Walcott, Diaby, Song, Denilson, Adebayor, Bendtner.
Just because this guy hasnt been nominated for any awards yet or had his pic plastered over any posters it doesnt meen he isnt good. If we sign him its because Wenger believes he can bring something to the club and thats good enough for me, and the reports of him have sounded good. Yes the injury is a slight concern but one long term injury doesnt meen hes guna b injury prone, especially at his young age, yes its a concern he hasnt broken into the Bremmen first team yet, but thats probably down to the injury, and yes its strange (from my point of view) we are going for a defencive mid seeing as we have Song, Denilson, Diaby, Gilberto, Ramsey and Landsbury (not that the last 2 are ready for first team regular football yet), but Wenger knows.
Sorry…add Djourou and Sendaros to the unproven talents when we signed them list, and Vela for that matter.
Samuel, thanks for suggesting that I base my judgement on Toulalan only on Euro08. It is based on a lot more than that…I assure you. Don’t rate the guy. He was Lyon’s (failed) attempt to replace Mahamadou Diarra. I don’t think it takes much for a player to look good playing in Lyon’s star studded team in Ligue 1 (which I rate, but Lyon’s squad is ahead of all rivals), and a few glitzy champions league games. If a defensive midfielder doesn’t have a real commanding presence (a Vieira or a Keane) they have to run their balls off (like Flamini) or read the game well (Makelele), in order to really be top class in that position, Toulalan does neither in my opinion. (for those reasons I have to say (with a heavy heart) I don’t think Diaby will ever really be the long term option in that role, for club or country)
In other news, I just saw that the daily mail is reporting that Adebayor is a target for Chelsea to replace Drogba. Wtf!
“In other news, I just saw that the daily mail is reporting that Adebayor is a target for Chelsea to replace Drogba. Wtf!”
LOL! Ive never believed anything ive read in the Daily Mail, football related or otherwise so id just put that down to an attempt at page filling and paper selling than actual hard news.
Adebayor cant go anywhere. who on earth will score our goals, this is a disaster. rvp never plays, walcott never scores, vela is mexican, and eduardo is on crutches. this is not looking good.
Dont worry, he wont be going nywhere.
JM, I didn’t say I believed the story, it just made me smile! Raises an interesting question… IF he did, who would you dislike more, him, or Cashley? As I have said before on here, I think there is much more to the collection of transfer saga’s that are happening this summer, they are all interlinked, that’s why they change every other day…
selll adebayor bring martins. the first thing that springs to mind is this, plus a player who ahs proved him slef already. but it makes me feel that is adeBYEor leaves, then we will get martins or santacruz.. who would arsenal fans prefer that is the question. i would say martins….???????????????????????
Pingback: “Finally, football has the success he deserves.” « 7am Kickoff
I don’t rate Martins at all. Any player who is willing to go to a club such as Newcastle has no ambition in my opinion. No doubt he would use us as a stepping stone anyway. Santa Cruz would fit into the current squad well if Adebayor leaves… I’m just worried by how injury prone he seems to be…
Cool nice answer, although i think that martins would be more commited as he has already stated in the past that he would not leave even for arsenal, but now it seems a possibility after their retraction of a new deal.

I always wondered what happened to the kid on the Munsters.
Hey Gunners… “Hold Your Guns..”
Arsene has yet to get it wrong and oh ny the way “The ONLY Top Premier League Team showing Transfer Profit” … Very smart Mr. Wenger – Excellent Bunsiness Acumen.
I will like everyone to remember that befor Thiery came to Highbury, he was a bench warmer at JUVENTUS, so I turst all these signings will be good for us in the end.
My last question..
Name any unsecessful ARSENAL sell or retiree formerly under Wenger… NONE!!!
