Samir Nasri has put pen-to-paper on a four year contract with Arsenal this afternoon, according to Marseille based news wire La Provence, and the players official website.
As Young Guns told you yesterday, Nasri flew in on Thursday afternoon following France’s elimination from Euro 2008, with a medical examination taking place on Friday. The final details were not completed in time for confirmation to be granted during that day, and with Arsenal.com not operating over the weekend, it has dragged on.
But eventually the news has been released this afternoon, initially on Samir’s official website. A statement read:
“We inform you that Samir won’t be an Olympique de Marseille player next season and that he has signed a four-year contract with London club Arsenal,”
It is understood he will wear the number 8 shirt, and both clubs will formally announce things during tomorrow afternoon. Due to the high level of hits on the website since the news broke, SamirNasri.fr has since gone offline, but as the day dies down should be reinstated.
Update – The website is back online, with the Arsenal name next to the “next match” icon.
Update 2 – Arsenal.com has added pics of Nasri to the server. Picture One – Picture Two
Cheers Alex for spotting those.
The transfer saga looks to have finished.

Yes sir
Fantstic News
I thought it would be announced today, now its tomorrow
J.S when do you think arsenal.com will officially announce the move
Well done JS.You were right and I was wrong. Well done sir.
Dave.. forget that.. most important thing is we got Samir Nasri.. doesnt matter who’s right.. who’s wrong.
Its been a fucking awful summer, glad we got somebody.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/7462281.stm
Its on the BBC, its officialy official people. Thank god for that, i was at the point where i would have been glad if hed come out nd said hed never sign for us just to get rid of the will he/wont he debate goin on in my mind.
Good signing, posibly a replacement for Hleb, possibly not, we’ll have to wait and see, but at any rate a very good addition to the club.
He’s quoted at costing us 15.8 million, at 13 million i was cool with it, but 15.8 seems a hell of alot. Im not complaining just a little worried by what this does to the rest of our transfer kitty.
“Its been a fucking awful summer, glad we got somebody.”
Aye, Flamini gone, Hleb probably going, all the Adebayor debate, but fuck it, we’ve got Ramsey, more importantly in terms on next season we’ve got Nasri, Vela has arrived, the young talents are one year season older, one season wiser and more experianced, one season better, thankfully next season is starting to look potentially very bright again.
Arsenal have added pictures of Nasri to the server, you can see them above
an awful summer? we signed Nasri… and Ramsey. That is a FANTASTIC summer…
Wenger only let’s players leave if he wants them to leave… but in those rare occasions where he’s forced to sell someone he’d rather not let go… we absolutle rape the club we sell to… please see Anelka and Cole… also… Overmars begat Pires… Cole begat Clichy… Anelka begat Henry… if Hleb and Adebayor force Wenger into a corner… I’m very very very very confident that we will be a better side for it…
£15.8m?!?! sorryyy das too much. he bes play lyk zidane or il be cussin
Thank gawd for that now we can all sleep well tonight. Yippee! ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….
According to Skysports the deal is for £15.8m. That is a bit higher than the £13m that was banded about prior to the Euro’s.
What you think about this supposed price tag?
He’s quoted at costing us 15.8 million, at 13 million i was cool with it, but 15.8 seems a hell of alot. Im not complaining just a little worried by what this does to the rest of our transfer kitty.
It wont be 15.8 cash, it’ll be the 13 or maybe even 10 with the rest being added on depeding on how he does, e.g. +1mil after 20 goals, +2mil after 60 league apearences, etc… Might not even be 15.8 atall, dont forget the Eduardo reported 16.8mil price tag that turned out to be a load of crap. But the BBC never announce transfers if they arent sure, so it 90% sure. Arsenal.com will probably announce it in the next 5 hours (possibly more, slow bastards).
spot on wiv ya info again : ) welcome nasri at last
sorry 4got the quotations around the irst paragraph…
finally we gt our man
It will get to 20million euros it he hits his targets and we win trophies.
“Its been a fucking awful summer, glad we got somebody.”
Uhh… June hasn’t even ended yet. Unless you’re referring to personal stuff, how can it *possibly* be a “fucking awful summer” for Arsenal fans?
For the love of God, get a grip on yourself. Real life football isn’t like Championship Manager, and clicking “refresh” on newsnow every 10 seconds doesn’t make events happen out there in the big wide world any faster.
J, i previously asked u if adebaoyor was leaving u said the rumours was just the player trying to get more money out of arsenal, do u stand by that??
To think Modric went up the road for a measly 200 and more, i guess we will have to wait till next season to see who done the better business? Good that we signed someone, hopefully Arsene goes and gets a centre back and defensive midfielder now.
Sorry 200 grand more :) typo guys lol
Ukmikes, keep in mind that Modric is also 3 years older than Nasri…
True, but isnt experience what we need? im not complaining just dont think we got a sensational deal, in fact i think this is one of the rare occasions Arsene didnt get the best outta the transfer, but thats my opinion.
J. Sanderson, as promised I’m here to apologise to you. You were right I was wrong & I couldn’t be more delighted about that.
At last Nasri has signed. What can we expect from him? Will we see Fabregas, Nasri, rosicky partnership in midfield? I personally think that Nasri will be great for Arsenal because he can offer vision, exquisite dribbling akin to hleb and the vital ingrediant of long and short range finishing.
To be honest im more excited by the prospect of Ramsey, seen a lot to suggest he will be a top player, can i just ask, have gibbs and lansbury, been given squad numbers?
…and bottles it on big occassions, Nasri is an awesome signing. Seen him a few times and he will be awesome…”Why dont you come on over Nas-ri (do, do, do, do) Nas-ri
I don’t think that Modric has much more experience than Nasri. They both have over 100 caps for their clubs (Nasri has more caps for Marseille than Modric for Dinamo), and are regulars in their international squad. However, one might argue that the French national team, as well as Ligue 1 is much more competitive than the Croatian national team, and domestic league.
I’m also pretty sure that the transfer won’t be 100% cash up front. It might be an initial £10m, or so, which will rise in the future. Either way, I’m really thrilled.
NASRI FOR ARSENAL
“To think Modric went up the road for a measly 200 grand more”
This is what I was thinking when I asked the question about the price tag. I’ll admite, I haven’t seen much of Nasri but I’ve seen enough of Modric to know that he is class! I sawe Nasri about 4 years ago in an under-17 tournament and he looked a world beater, but I’m not sure how he has developed. I suppose I should have faith as he managed to force his way into the french squad so maybe i should just stop being such a typically pessimistic gooner.
Yes I think I will be: Nasri is the greatest player ever. Okay, too optimistic but I’ll give him at least 6 months before i start judging him.
J. Sanderson, where is Nasri on Arsenal.com? please explain things explicitly.
And his site is still “service unavailable”.
15.8 million squid . though . just think i would of rather had david villa fohat amount b4 he went to the euros
Arsenal only update the site during 9am-5pm so the news will be on tomorrow. But it is a done deal.
what a bunch of morons… “at 15m Im not ok with this?”
you lot are the same daisy’s moaning that Wenger doesnt spend enough money. HAVE YOU SEEN NASRI PLAY?
He’s a bargain at double the price…
well , i don’t think arsenal fans need it from arsenal.cm who always late ..
look at the sources ! BBC , Skysports , Setanta ! it’s the trusted sites and channels for me ..
for me i am relaxed about this deal after BBC understanding , and now i wish for more players and speicaly center back hope mr wenger change his mind and bring on one good center back can cover the horrible foults last season ..
Try the “refresh” button people. I saw that paragraph in French on Nasri’s site. But maybe a hell of a lot of people like us and journos are clicking “refresh” now lol.
Thanks JS for this!
Well i for one welcome his signing, but so far we spent around say 20 million “allegedly”.
Now how much do you think that leaves us for a world class CB & DM, and i think its fair to say we can forget talk of new strikers, (but to be honest if Ade stays im happy with our striking options).
If Wenger signs a CB & DM, i will be happy, id love us to go for Marco Senna, or Toulalan, and as for CB hmmm, i’ll get back to ya lol :)
Alex, wasn’t he Ramsey deal was announced after 5pm???
Randiosco, the news isn’t on arsenal.com yet. But since some staff apparently uploaded Nasri’s pictures to the club website server, it means that they’re preparing to publish something about him! They may be writing up the content, preparing the photos, putting text and pics together on the webpages. But someone just decided to upload the pictures (without webpages) to the server, instead of uploading everything at the same time. So it’s a bit of a leak on their mate!
Modric though cant play on the wings hes a playmaker hence the reason arsenal didnt buy him so will you guys stop bitching about a Spurs player all the time. Nasri on the other hand can play on either wing and in the centre meaning hes much more what Arsenal need as Arsenal have been short in the wings for awhile. Nasri is also experienced for his age so although he is young he is as experienced as many players many years older than him.
where did you find those pictures on arsenal.com?
Ok come on, Nasri won the League 1 player of the season this season, ok its not Serie A, the Budesliga or La Liga but still, its not to be sniffed at, he has to have somethign about him to win that. Plus i have seen him 3 or 4 times this season for Marsielle and hes a good player, much like hleb hes an accross the board attacking midfeilder, can can play either wing, down the middle and as a second striker, hes also unselfish but he gets goals and assists.
It has been a bad summer so far because we lost Flamini for nothing, who was a central part of last season side, and there are all these rumours flying around about Hleb and Adebayor, but we have Ramsey and now Nasri and everything is starting to look a bit brighter. Thats just my opinion anyway.
how did you find those pics on arsenal server??
Arsene can’t win! First you lot says he spends too little, then he splashes the cash and he’s spent too much!
Wasn’t Luka “Body of a 12 year old” Modric £17m?
Morons how are we morons for having an opinion, isnt that what the board is for, im not saying its a bad signing or that i dont like the player. All we are saying is thats alot for a player many are unsure about and considering Modric, Ben Arfa, David Silva and Arshavin are perhaps at that same price, is he better than them, i really hope he is, but are you telling me 15.8 million is the figure you had in mind when his transfer was going through, HELLLLLLLL NO!! so we are just raising an opinion, deal with it.!!!
we need some italian defenders!!!
well said Rob M… if I recall, we were invincible following a summer of very few signings where many supporters lost their heads but Wenger held his nerve..
CALM DOWN all of you… imagine if 42 goals from midfield was forcibly leaving our club… now THAT would be troubling…
it’s £13.3 not £15.8 i would like to change my euros where the times do , they seem to be on a 4 year old rate.
Yep Modric was 17m, i thought he was 16m, ahhh well, lol
I agree with Johnny Maverik. League 1 is definitely not to be sniffed at. The last time we signed the “RB of League 1”, look how Sagna has done in his first season! I’m not expecting the boy to do a Sagna by slotting straight into the team as if he’s played here forever. But the quality is there for sure. If he and Theo could combine to last a season replacing Hleb on the wing, and if he could back up Cesc in the middle when he’s tired/injured/suspended, that’s what we can realistically hope for from his 1st season with us.
Nasri is a big big talent. He’s French. He’s 20. He’s a forward. This is Wenger’s specialist subject area.
15m. 20m. 30m. Whatever. Wenger knows.
sorry, but Nasri won ligue 1 young player fo the year, not player of the year.
Still, that can only be a good thing!
Denilson is Fabregas’ understudy… and a good one at that… DO NOT BELIEVE THE MEDIA… they suggested that we were a one man team… yet we SOLD that man and finished 4 points (due to referees) behind the Euro winners… a competition we only lost due to referees…
Am i the only muppet that thinks perhaps Hleb might stay and that, Nasri is an addition rather that a replacement, Hlebs agent has been doing all the talking, but last i heard Hleb was happy with Wenger and Arsenal, and recognised what Arsene had done for his career, im more concerned with the fact Rosicky is never fit, maybe Nasri has been brought in to challenge for Rosickys space, god knows he couldnt do worse than Eboue lol
Who is next now we have nasri and ramsey
by the way… Nasri is our third signing… so far Manchester United have signed no one… but have only sold a TEENAGER to Barce for £5m
“Who is next now we have nasri and ramsey”
Marco Senna or Toulalan hopefully
ukmikes… I agree… I think you’re on to something there… Wenger admitted that he had wanted to sign another left/right sided midfielder last summer to replace Freddie… now he has…
RVP… Rosicky… Eduardo… thats quite a bit of talent no? 4 lost the league by 4 points without this lot…
Or as Rumored Zidane as a scout, heard that rumour this morning on Yahoo, imagine the pull he would have to lure talent to the Emirates!
Original price quoted was 15.8m Euros, which 1.25 rate is £12.6m, £4.2m CHEAPER than Modric.
YES!!!! Finnaly we got da son of a bitch lol!!! Welcome Samir!!!! Best Wishez im sure u’l be a great asset to the team!!!
Cumon the Arsenal!!!!
All we need is to get shot of adebayor and bring in a top striker–Eto’o or Villa or even Arshavin??
” “Who is next now we have nasri and ramsey”
Marco Senna or Toulalan hopefully”
You do realise that Senna is 31?
Toulalan? I hope not he was average at best for the French him and Makelele were one of the main reasons for France not succeeding with there lack of creativity. I hope we dont get Toulalan would prefer Diaby to play alongside Cesc. Senna on the other hand would be good if we got him.
Marco Senna is a very very very very very poor mans Gilberto… Toulalan is rubbish and a massive giveaway that a manager who can’t select Clichy/Sanga (ok, he was injured… but Diarra has more caps at rightback than Sagna) is an absolute IDIOT
I find it quite interesting that Ramsey now has Flamini’s number…

Finally, we got him,how annoying would it be though if the website made it up :P
If this is true, I am pissed off by the fact that Arsenal, it seems, has signed a first team player, and do not deem it nessarily to thrill their fans with a simple announcement. As far as I am concerned, that has put a dampener on things for me. The circumstances of the previous season, the on-going saga about current arsenal players and posibilities of the impending season demands that.
To tell you the truth, I am not as excited about this signing as I should have been, but thats because, the will he – wont he saga had frankly gone on far too long.
Toulalan isn’t rubbish, he was just stuck in a torpid French side for Euro 2008. He was actually one of the most solid members of the side, rarely giving up possession and nearly always completing his passes. Personally, I’d love him to replace Flamini.
“ukmikes… I agree… I think you’re on to something there”
Glad im not the only one lol, but think about it, Hleb made a statement a couple weeks back about being fed up of the rumours, Hlebs agent said that his player would be gone by the end of May yet Hleb is still around.
Arsene has being through this crap before with Henry, Viera, Ljunberg, Pires and he won those battles, Barca and Real are dirty when it comes to leaking stories, and usually they are fabricated, although i tend to think Barca and especially Laporta are fairer than Real Madrid, but i understand if it gets to December Hleb can buy himself out but i think Wenger is smart, and if he talks to Hleb i think this can be resolved, but it seems the agent is pushing this more than the player himself, but who knows, either way i think Gibbs should be given a chance, he might not be Hleb but maybe he could be our Ashley Young :)
“Toulalan? I hope not he was average at best for the French him and Makelele were one of the main reasons for France not succeeding with there lack of creativity. I hope we dont get Toulalan would prefer Diaby to play alongside Cesc. Senna on the other hand would be good if we got him.”
Toulalan never, never, never scores, hes talented yes, but hes imcomplete and at 24 probably always will be. He was a bizzare choice for the french squad, an incredibly bizarre choice for a starter, did avarage, and so did France.
Personally i dont think we need a DM cuz Gilberto did ok in the games he was played in a 2 man central pairing, he only did crap in the games where he was imployed in a Makalele position behind Fabregas and Flamini, sadly that was the case in most of the games he played. Also dont forget we have Song, Denilson and Diaby, all who can play in Flaminis position and are getting to that age where you feel they should be given a probably run. Song did great in the African nations cup playing there.
Calm down, everybody. There’s no way it’s nearly 16 million CASH! There will be incentives in the deal, which you all should know by now is quite common — see Walcott, Eduardo, etc.
Also I don’t see a direct comparison to Modric because, as someone else mentioned, Modric basically plays Cesc’s position. From what I’ve seen, he’s no winger — whereas Nasri is far more versatile.
I agree, though, that there will be automatic comparisons between Modric and Nasri just because it’s Spurs and us. That’s life.
Plus, Wenger could have signed Modric and chose to save his money. And that makes the guy interesting, much like Ryan Babel. Kid was dying to play at Arsenal and AW wouldn’t buy him. He had a fair season at Liverpool — no better than that — but clearly Wenger was signalling he thinks Walcott is yards ahead of Babel and that the gap will increase rather than the other way around.
It’s fascinating trying to study AW’s purchases. But the good news is that he has a super track record of knowing talent. I’ll take my chances with his judgment.
“either way i think Gibbs should be given a chance”
Cant agree with you more, ive just been looking over the archieves on Arsenal TV Online and ive been watching alot of the reserve games, Gibbs is fantastically skillful, great dribblr and scores, not to mention he can cross and is a decent passer.
How do you get on the server J?
Dealing with Arsenal.com is like going to the DMV!
lets put it this way if we lose hleb and flamini and only replace them with nasri and ramsey… then regardless of vela coming in – it would be a bad summer – its a step back by losing 2 first team players who had their best seasons for us and putting in a 20year old who hasnt played for england and a 17 year old who’s still learning his game.
im sure arsene has at least 1 or 2 signings in mind, i personally think tho if we keep hleb and ade and sure up our cover at defnce then and only THEN will it be a good summer.
otherwise im happy we got nasri – he’ll get us goals and assists from midfield
Toulalan wasnt poor, he was playing in a midfield of 2 DM’s thats not his role but out of the two i thought he was better,
Imagine, a midfield of Gilberto and flamini and you would get the same stalemate,
And as for Senna being a poor mans Gilberto, are you on CRACK! The sole reason Spain are doing well is because they have finally found a good DM, that plays in a way so that the creative players can just get on and play, he does that job for Villareal too who finished 2nd in La Liga, i guess he had no part in that, plus before Hargreaves signed for Man U, he was there top target, yet to some idiots hes a poor mans Gilberto, come off the Crack pipe people,
Aragones, and Alex Ferguson cant both be wrong on this one!
“20year old who hasnt played for england and a 17 year old who’s still learning his game.”
Well he hasnt played for England but hes played for France, im guessing u meant to say playing in England thou. You have a point but hes gotta start somewhere and whats for sure is that he has end product which is something Hleb has always lacked through out his whole carear. As for Flamini i dont think Ramsey is his replacement, i think it’ll be one of Song, Denilson or Diaby, and any one of those can do a decent job.
“Alex, wasn’t he Ramsey deal was announced after 5pm???”
The Ramsey deal was announced around half 4/5pm
Uhh Most websites are saying we have signed Nasri for £15.8m!
This is quite alot,so I am hoping that they mean euros and have mistakenly put a pound sign infront. Still, I lifts up the mood at the Emirates.
fao johnny maverick – yeah lol you know what i meant in regards to nasri not playing in the EPL. in regards to ramsey i was not insinuating he was to replace flamini as i reckon arsene will start with gilberto in that role and let ramsey/denilson and maybe even diaby challenge for that role but my point was its a good start with these two guys coming in and im excited about that but before we can say it is a good or bad summer we need to see who leaves our club – its a great start so far…
Pingback: Nasri is an Arsenal player! An overview of the new signing «
If anyone should replace Flamini, it should be Song, yeah he done well as a CB towards the end of the season, but if anyone saw him at Charlton on Loan, or at this years African nations you will know this boy can do the job, i have full faith in him, my problem with Denilson, is this, hes neither an attacking midfielder or holding, hes just a tidy footballer, he cant be defined yet, hes not creative enough to control a game as a CAM,and not yet disciplined enough to be DMC, its like hes neither, hes a good player, for me like Michael Carrick or Gareth Barry, but not yet outstanding in either role.
As for Diaby, i aint gonna lie, i think hes overated, but i will say this, when hes good hes very good, like i saw him play as an attacking midfielder against Blackburn and for me he was what won us the game, they couldnt get near him, but he has too many few days like that, hes not a holding player trust me, but he again is a tidy player but not outstounding, i just think Song could genuinely be outstounding as a DMC, Alan Curbishley thought he was awesome at Charlton, and now i finally think Arsene is seeing it, hence the new contract.
COME ON SONG, PROVE ME RIGHT :)
Diaby undoubtedly will get his chance in central midfield, but i have my doubts on how successfull he will be. That said, how many of us were singing Flamini praises this time las year to inherit th role from Gilberto?
js where on the arsenal website does it have pictures of samir, can u send me the link please fanx
conor h
Personally i rate Diaby but i think hes guna take a cpuple more seasons to grow into teh player he can be, i hate to make comparisons but i tend to make them quite alot, and although this will probably be scoffed at i see him as very much similar to Vieira, hes skillful on the ball, quick into a tackle, doesnt stop running. However he isnt a good tackler yet, an enfusiatic and forceful one yes but not a good one, and he needs to work on his passing and composure. I agree that how good he will be remains to be seen though. Hes naturally a good shooter and an adveturious and enthusiatic player though and that can only be a good thing.
I agree about Song though, hes a steady player and his composure has improved dramatically this season. Very good on the ball, he can run at players, good passer and has a decent shot even though he needs to use it more, personally along side Gilberto i see him as the one who will step in for Flamini IF no1 is signed, and i dont think any1 will be personally.
Conor look on the article, click the underlined writing on the Picture 1 Picture two, and it will show you them.
Nasri will be presented by the club tomorrow
To be honest if we have only added Ramsey and Nasri to the squad and haven’t lost anyone else by the time the season kicks off I will be very, very sastisfied because adding the likes of Vela, Lansbury, Randall, Barazite and Nordtveit to the 1st team will be like signing 5 very talented, promising new players.
I can’t wait for next season to begin!
just to be absolutely clear… Toulalan is rubbish… simple… some idiot on BBC makes a comment about a play and a 1 million opinions are spawned…
“Vela, Lansbury, Randall, Barazite and Nordtveit to the 1st team will be like signing 5 very talented, promising new players.”
Dont forget Gibbs and Traore who will unboutably be given more chances next season aswell, especially Traore who could get some starts in the league if we dont sign another winger, so make that 7.
i concur with the song sentiments – however im cynical at the idea that he could be our answer to flamini for next season… i.e be the partner for the whole of the season – he’s just too inexperienced – he could be great in the future but if we’re serious about winning the champions league or EPL im not sure he should be relied upon as our first choice partner for cesc
The pictures had been deleted
When do all the players join up for pre-season training?
OUR CLIB does not run its mouth off… would you prefer to be Manchester United (and £800m in debt!!) and have the football world laugh in your face at the signing of Aaron Ramsey?
I have a Manchester Evening News (paper) that has a 3 page (full page) article on Ramsey signing with United
…. I’d rather be Aresnal… you can’t TEACH or BUY class

Senna is a poor man’s GIlberto… and he was TERRIBLE yesterday… must I teach you everything?
Senna is not near the player Gilberto “is” and “was”…
people like you are why Milan Baros got lauded as a ‘great’ player
Man some how i knew the Viera, Diaby comparison would come, but other than them both being tall and black i dont see it, for me Diaby isnt composed on the ball like Viera was, for me he often looks clumsy and often gives away possession to easily, defensively 5 years ago he would have looked good, but now in an age where tackling is become less and less, whenever he tackles it often seems like hes over reaching or just so physically powerful that he gives away needless free kicks, whereas flamini;s strengths were pressure energy and workrate Diaby doesnt have that, whereas Song does.
People always long for a big strong centre mid, viera like, petit like, these days its more important to be high energy good at applying pressure and reading of the game, Diaby doesnt have that, in fact i dont know what he has but if he adds defensive discipline to his game, who knows.
But i think who plays there this season has to be right, because i thinks it holds the key to our midfield, also Flamini being left footed gave as great balance in midfield, which also thought was a big strentgh for us.
