Samir Nasri Signs For Arsenal On A Four Year Contract

Samir Nasri has put pen-to-paper on a four year contract with Arsenal this afternoon, according to Marseille based news wire La Provence, and the players official website.

As Young Guns told you yesterday, Nasri flew in on Thursday afternoon following France’s elimination from Euro 2008, with a medical examination taking place on Friday. The final details were not completed in time for confirmation to be granted during that day, and with Arsenal.com not operating over the weekend, it has dragged on.

But eventually the news has been released this afternoon, initially on Samir’s official website. A statement read:

“We inform you that Samir won’t be an Olympique de Marseille player next season and that he has signed a four-year contract with London club Arsenal,”

It is understood he will wear the number 8 shirt, and both clubs will formally announce things during tomorrow afternoon. Due to the high level of hits on the website since the news broke, SamirNasri.fr has since gone offline, but as the day dies down should be reinstated.

Update – The website is back online, with the Arsenal name next to the “next match” icon.
Update 2 – Arsenal.com has added pics of Nasri to the server. Picture OnePicture Two

Cheers Alex for spotting those.

The transfer saga looks to have finished.

What an Idiot, really, but i guess people like you are the type who wished Arsene had bought Rebrov instead of Tottenham, and called for Wenger to resign lol if we are throwing dumb playground insults, and compared to you Baros is a great player, what have you done in the game, huh, id put you on a pitch with Baros and see how long it takes before you are reaching for an Asthma pump, i dont rate Baros but respect the fact he achieved his dream of actually being a professional footballer, and have the class not to belittle his talents unlike some.

I cant convince you on Senna fair enough, but i would take the opinion of Man U scouts and Alex Ferguson any day, plus the fact he plays in Spains first team means nothing, Educate me please, calling anyone a poor mans anything shows your the one who lacks the education.

Watch some La Liga, educate yourself, speak to people who know about the game then write on this blog, until them dont tarnish this excellent website with your ignorant uneducated comments!!

YOU HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN VERBALLY BITCH SLAPPED!!

This place would have exploded with curses, imagine this Monday morning, Masri is announced as a Chelsea player and you see the headline on papers with Nasri standing next to a grinning Peter Kenyon. You all know how sickening that would have felt.

I will personally congratulate Arsene and all others, who were smart enough to agree a deal with Marseille before the Euros started. I feel we could have been gazumped if there was a chance. But it is destiny that this player will put on the Arsenal shirt. Before it was a dream, but I’m glad I can proudly say a big talent like Nasri is now an Arsenal player.

For me, it is a relief; regardless of the price. I trust Wenger with money and I know he is not foolish to overspend on Nasri. Infact I will not waste my time over how much he was brought in for. I’ll leave that to those who have that spot of bother.
Now we can open the next chapter, having closed on this deal.

J, don’t you think some deals are holding other deals from happening? I feel Arsenal will not be able to bring in certain players now until some other transfers are done. I don’t know why I’m saying this but I feel Arsenal still have some business to do in this transfer market. I’ll be bold enough to say that by the end of the August, Arsenal fans would be brimming with hope.

Bullsh*t. Toulalan didn’t play crap. He’s a def. midfielder. Excellent in possesion, great passing abillity. I think he was the most solid in the french team. He also has a great stamina, can run and work like Flamini. He would be a great replacement for Flamini.

I hate to put a damper on this but every references to Nasri web site is unavailable and those photo have gone as well. Do I smell a whacking big fish on a par with that Argie bloke who signed in the Sun? I find it strange AFC would allow a player to mouth off on his website without officially announcing a deal first.

Unfortunately the administrator has just written on the official website: Nous sommes désolé d’avoir agit précipitement en annonçant que Samir avait signé avec Arsenal , mais samir est encore sous contrat avec l’Olympique de Marseille à ce jour.

Ie he is still under contract with Marseille and the admin is sorry to have jumped the gun. Just wait until it is announced on arsenal.com

Nasri had a min release clause of 13.5, so either Wenger is pretty stupid (unlikely) or the people writing articles are (more more likely).

this transfer really has been a bungling mess. it is ridiculous how long it has taken and it is still not finalised.

i cant find that statement on nasri’s website, im guessing it has been removed because the deal isnt actually agreed between the clubs.

i bet we are still haggling for price, because if nasri was confident enough to reveal he had ‘signed’, the player must have agreed terms with us.

I’m not excited by this signing, because signing Nasri is not progression.

He is just another identikit of what we already have, he will not make a huge difference to our play, he will not solve the problems that we suffered last season.

Someone said the announcement’s gonna be made by the club at 2pm tomorrow right? Let’s see. I wouldn’t lose any sleep but this is just the silliest transfer I’ve seen. Makes you respect the Wenger/Arsenal way of conducting transfers even more. We used to hear nothing, then boom, Eduardo’s our new #9 striker. That’s the way it should be, really!

Manuel, yes he is Hlebs replacement, but it is actually a step back from Hleb.

Hleb is proven at a high level and experienced, we are replacing quality and experience with potential, and a player who will take months to settle, if not a whole season!

Do we want another season of ‘transition’ ?

For FUCKS sake, i cant take this anymore, if he doesnt sign in the end now i will personally hunt down and kick in the nuts everyone resposable, not because i think hes vital for our future but simply because im so fucking sick of this whole transfer deal, if anything it being announced that he wont sign would be a relief. This is on Par with Henry leaving/not leaving to the point where you just wanted him to fuck off so we could start feeling disapointed and stop living in limbo.

no of course we dont, but it looks as if thats the way things are heading at this current juncture. signings are out of necessity it seems because of players jumping ship, not because we need to add depth to the squad in order to last the chllange this time.

yup every season our players want to jump ship,& this must cause havoc on wengers plans. Im sure he is given a budget & carefully plans who to sign but all his plans are destroyed by disloyal players.

We end up spending all summer replacing players and start the season with weaker squad than the previous season. :(

NOW HERE IS THE REAL REASON THIS TRANSFER HAS DRAGGED ON THIS LONG

OM knows that Arsenal has great interest and would want to sign this player really much so they are trying to push the price as high as possible so they could make more more from it… also trying to delay the deal a little to see if any other club indicates interest and place a bid for Nasri so that arsenal could make a higer bid other than that already made.

Wenger on his on part refuse to give in to such and decides to stick his guns on his initial price evaluation of the player and if possible see if the player’s price would drop if no one bids for him when the transfer season get closer to its end. He knows he didn’t perform at the euros so isn’t scared of loosing him to any club as they wouldn’t show interest.

The question here is ..Who would come out of this as the winner? Arsenal or OM ?? Both ways, Nasri wins…he would definitely be paid high at any club he goes. or continues to earn relatively high wages at OM if they decided not to sell him again.

What are you on about Arse&Nose “We end up spending all summer replacing players and start the season with weaker squad than the previous season.” How far off the title were we this year after losing our best ever player? How far off the title were we with the clubs best ever player the season before? Our squad was must stronger last season with the addition of Sagna at right back, the emergence of Fabregas as one of the best midfielders in the world and Ade playing to his potential. Also if u notice every season not many players “jump ship” the only to do so have been THierry and Cashley and further back Vieira. The others in recent times Pires, Freddie etc were all getting to old to perform at the top level.

Some people like to be way to pessimistic its unbelievable next season we already have Vela who has really shone in his recent internationals with 3 goals in last 3 games. Then Bendtner also has 5 goals in last 7 internatioals aswell. RVP is back and fit, Walcott is really starting to show wat he can do, Arsenal have signed Britains most wanted teenager an the new zidane will join.

Also on your point about replacing an experienced player with Nasri, Nasri has played over 100 games in the French league and also played in the Champs league and Uefa cup you don’t really need much more experience than that unless you want Arsenal to sign a 34 year old or somethin jesus.

I believe arsene was ready to complete deals before the euros but with flamini leaving, hleb wanting to leave & Ade uncertain; his plans were ripped up. I believe the boss had to draw up new plans to replace what we lose and now this has become a priority.

I still dont think Ade will leave and if Hleb leaves im not to bothered as Nasri is far more likely to score goals and if you watch Nasri play he is abit like a younger Hleb he drifts around the pitch like him. Also as far as Flamini goes i never thought he was as great as everyone kept saying i wanted to see Diaby play alongside Cesc and hopefully that’ll happen soon.

I agree, Ade has said time and time again he wants to stay and win things with and for the club and i believe him because hes not your steriotypical self-centerd money obsessed footballer coughflaminihlebcough. Your also right about Nasri, hes a player exactly like Hleb, except with an end product.

hope we get a few more signings, a defensive midfielde who can also play in central defence, someone like miguel veloso. if ade goes then david villa or andrei arshavin. im dreaming! but i have a feeling theo and vela are going to be something to watch next season. both of them are great.
im thinking of getting vela on my shirt next season but i aint made up my mind yet.
