Wenger Praise As Bendtner Rejects German Offers

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has snubbed offers from top German clubs to commit his future to the Gunners. The young Dane bagged 9 goals in his debut season with the first team, and is looking to build on that progress in the coming campaign.

Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen had been linked with £8 million bids for Bendtner, but the player has informed his father, (who acts as his agent) he is keen to stay on in London.

“I have heard about these offers from Germany but Nicklas will stay at Arsenal.”

“The only way things could be different was if something unexpected should happen, such as him being moved totally outside of the team, but it is difficult to see that happening as he is playing right now.”

With the media linking many of Arsenal’s players with moves from the club, this news will be more than welcome by Arsene Wenger, who in return offered praise for Bendtner. The French boss considers the 20 year old as a very important player, and the mixed season he experienced last year will stand him in good stead.

“I feel as well some young players have made big progress and next year they will be better players,”

“Players like Bendtner, who has already made progress from the start of the season. Next year you can consider him a real striker.”

His break through year will be remembered as one with various ups and downs, with low lights coming as he had to play for the Reserves, and his infamous fight with Emmanuel Adebayor, and highlights as he scored winners against Tottenham and Everton.

I am looking forward to seeing a bit more of Bendtner next season but still can’t see him going onto the team sheet ahead of Adebayor. They can’t play together, that is obvious as they are basically the same player, and after his 30+ goals wenger ent gonna leave out Ade. I hope he does play though cos i don’t want to see him leave in Jan or end of the season.
What do you think his chances of playing next season are J?

ruudthediver – I think you are way off the mark there. Adebayor finished just behind Ronaldo in the top scorers. Bendter may well get better and may eventually be better than the Togonator, but its not the case now. He is still a bit raw. Having said that he adds another dimension to the team. A good alternative if height and muscle is required. Right now he is behind Adebayor, a fit van Persie and Eduardo when he glue has hardened in his legs. Carlos Vela and/or Walcott might even push Bendtner down to 5th or 6th choice they are given and take their chances. In that case, I admire the boys confidence in himself, but he is taking a riskby staying.

Bit off topic but does anyone reckon Diaby will make it at Arsenal, i know a lot of people dont like this guy but ive always thought he could be a really good player. WOuld be nice to see him have a injury free season and a longer run in the team to show what he can do.

A lot of frustrated gunners tend to castigate Bendtner but they forget that he is only 20 and still learning. He is quite imposing and has tenacity. He is a starter in his national team so his frustrations at being a reserve are understandable as Denmark is not a tinpot football country.

Ben, i like Diaby, but i dont see where he fits. I dont think he is defensive enough to be a DM, nor attacking enough to be a playmaker.

But on his day he can be superb.

Bendtner is a vastly superior footballer than Adebayor and, unlike the latter, plays for the team at all times. If Adebayor had passed to Bendtner at Birmingham we might now be champions. We would certainly not be facing Champions League qualifiers. Had the roles been reversed Bendtner would have passed. Some of our supporters have no idea of team-play. They would have regarded Alan Smith as a bad player! Arsenal’s history is all about the team meaning more than individuals. We were champions, then we had 6 years of Ian Wright and then we were champions again. Go figure!

” Bendtner is a vastly superior footballer than Adebayor ” says Ramgun. Really mate? That Adebayor must be useless and those 30 goals just meaningless.
I dont mind Bendtner and think he has real potential however what I object to is the kids on here berating Adebayor becuase Bendtner is their favourite and Ade is keeping him out the team. Init.

I really doubt that Diaby will ever be a starter for us. But if he is ready to wait, he can be an important versatile player for many years.

Bendtner is pure quality, I love this player. He will be much better than Adebayor and I hope he gets a lot of chances next season. I don’t agree that he will be behind Walcott and Vela. If Ade gets injured, Nicklas will play. RvP and Dudu might well play together but it’s all about combination and what is best for the team. If neither Ade nor Nick are playing, the team play will change a lot. Personally I would most favor these partnerships:
    Ade-RvP
    Ade-Dudu
And if Ade can’t play then:
    RvP-Dudu
    Nick-RvP
    Nick-Dudu

I don’t think either Vela or Walcott will play much up front this season. But both of them are strikers, especially Vela. He knows how to get in the right spaces and is a really good finisher. I love his goal from the U-17 finals when dos Santos crossed and Vela dived for the header.

Agreed, Diaby is an excellent technical player but his poor vision and poor work rate limits his game dramatically. Wenger likes him but he won’t make it at Arsenal unless he puts in a good effort to eliminate his weaknesses.

Im very excited about Vela, and ive been following him quite closely ever since we signed him.

He is undoubtedly a talented player, but I think it will take him a gd season to adapt to the physical needs of the english game! His all round play reminds me slightly of reyes!

Ramgun // you must be kidding , so bendtner is the guy who plays for the team and Ade is the egoistic one. One would argue youve never seen either player play. bendtner has potential but is without doubt the most egoistic player in the team his done simalr things on numerous occasions and unlike Ade he still has A LOT to prove. You were wright about Ade not passing him though, he should have but nobody is perfect and its not to uncommon seing that happen between strikers espacially as they do not like each other.

Do people reckon that Gilberto Silva will still be with us next season? I really like the guys loyalty but i dont think he should be the centre mid started next season as persoanlly i feel his best years are behind him. Im still undecided as to whether Denilson or Song can fill the role left by Flamini, who do you reckon will partner Fab in the centre next season?

Throughout the past season I have been one of Bendtner’s harshest critics. After watching Denmarks last International friendly I may be changing my mind on the player. He showed skill, awareness, creativity and lead Denmarks attack. If he continues to improve he will definitely be class for the Arsenal. To those who think Ade and Bendtner can’t play together will be proven wrong this upcoming season. They really don’t play the same game even though they are similar in stature. Ade likes to start out towards the left and float to the middle, while Bendtner’s game sees him come a little deeper to contribute to the attacking build up.

    _______________Diaby
    Rosicky/Nasri________Cesc
    _____________________________RVP
    ____________Nic/Theo
    ______________Ade

Interchanging front trio, one of them minds the left wing whilst the other plays in the hole and Ade stays in the box.

I think Bendtner and Adebayor can play together, i also think Bendtner is probably the player who has improved most over the past season (perhaps along side Walcott, Flamini and Adebayor).

If he keeps progressing like he is then he’ll be as good as Adebayor is now by the time he reaches 23.

During one of the last few games of last season – Cant remember which one, think it was vs Derby – we saw glimpses of how Adebayor and Bendner can actully play together. Although not in a 4-4-2, more of a 4-4-1-1 with Nik sitting back a bit and acting as a connection between the Ade and Cesc, the partnership looked good at times in that match. But in the Everton game we were without Cesc so Nic was almost playing Cesc’s role in mid-field.

Next season there will finally be some serious competition for places in mid-field, the only dead certs would be cesc and maybe Nasri (When he finally decides to sign and adapts to the EPL!) We’ll have Vela, Walcott, Rosicky, Nasri, Diaby, Song, Eboue all vying for places in midfield. And also Randall and Barazite… I want it to be song to replace Flamini, hes defensice, powerful and a good tackler.

I’m really looking forward to next season, Last season started in much uncertanty with the departures of Dein, Henry and the possible departure of Wenger but now we are more expierenced, the younger players are getting ready for serious 1st team football, we have a commited manager and players! Everyone is saying our players want to leave us but that isnt the case. Cesc, Clichy, Ade, RvP, Sagna, Toure have all said they want to stay and that they believe in the team and that is going to go a long way in helping us challenge for silverware next season!

We need to establish a squad mentality which means Wenger needs to establish a bit of rotation. In that context Ady would start and Bentdner would get around 12 premiership starts and hopefully be reasonably happy. At the end of next year you would get a more informed view as to whether Bedtner is the better prospect. But remember big strikers are never at their best ’till they are around 25 .
Separate issue on Eduardo. Great if he makes it back, but I saw nothing last year to say he was ever more than a reserve. So if R.V.P. continues to be injury ridden as any betting person would guess, we are short of a top class striker alongside the big man – and no Vela or Walcott wont do next year unless your happy with third or fourth

I agree cuz hes a good passer and has shown gimpses of being able to take men on and pick wonderful passes this season. However im a bit worried Wenger sees him as a Centre Back now…which i think would be a shame.

I still think Thuram is the best bet for the defender we should bring in, experiance and quality to the max.

To follow up on the Bendtner vs Adebayor.

Some think we should take 8m for Bendtner anyday, I would say we should take 24m-30m or whatever Adebayour is valued at right now after his statisticly best season of his career. His price will only go downhill from now on. He got his 30 goals this season due to injuries, so he has been playing on top for most of the season. I would not hesitate to bet 1000 pounds that he will never score anymore goals than this season for the rest of career, I am quite sure that could be a decent bet. Remember that Wenger needed to officially bring him down to the ground only a month ago or so, that tells me a little bit about his attitude. Maybe he learn maybe he don’t. Maybe I’m just affraid that he is the new Kanu, after 3 goals against Chelski and a new bumper contract, he kind of went AWOL.

Its not that I don’t appreciate what he has done for us this season, he has won us important games, but his uncountable misses overshadow this IMHO. But on the other hand a 1000 pound bet on Bendtner not scoring (or even assisting) more for the rest of his career than this season, would probably be the safest waste on money.

Bendtner is still only 20 yo now and 4 years his (Ade) junior, which means alot in that age, and he is already creating much more than Ade and the goals will come also, but like Ade their job is not to be the main striker. I also feel that he almost everytime changes the games when he comes in just like walcott. Off course its a bit different when they start due to lack of experience, but that will come soon over the next season or two.

I am already convinced that Bendtner is a much better long term prospect.
