Arsenal Defender Boateng Chooses Ghana Over England

Arsenal Under 16 defender Daniel Boateng has snubbed the advances of the England youth team, to pledge his allegiance towards the country of his families origin, Ghana.

The highly rated Boateng has established himself as one of the most promising central defenders around, and naturally international honers will beckon. England Under 16 coach Kenny Swain had indicated his desire to include the London born youngster in his squad for future fixtures, but after consulting his parents over the summer, has confirmed he will make himself available for Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie’s team.

“I have made the choice to play for Ghana and my decision is final,”

“I want to give something back to Ghana and I also know that playing for the country will also help enhance my career.”

Boateng believes the experience gained whilst be trained by the Gunners staff means he will be a huge success on the international scene, and spoke of his ambition to follow in the foot steps of the current Ghanaian stars.

“It is true that the English system gave me a lot in training but my heart is with Ghana where my parents come from.”

“Fantastic players like Essien, Appiah and Mensah who did not have the facilities we have in England have come out of the country and excelled and I am sure I will do the same.”

Daniel is a left footed centre back, who can also feature at left back or in midfield. He was part of the successful Arsenal team which beat Juventus to win the Atalanta Cup during the summer, and will be looking to step up to Steve Bould’s competitive Under 18s next year.

He should be encouraged. In a day and age when many players choose the easy or more lucrative option, choosing to play for his African international side shows good character. Too often rich nations take their pick of global players, and African sides often have their best players skimmed off.

I always think that when a player chooses his country of origin it is a sign of maturity and strong-will. Best of luck to him, it is certainly exciting to have players like Nordveit and Boateng in the making at Arsenal. JS, Nordveit is more a Sol Campbell type of player or a Tony Adams replica. I always compared him to Steve Bould, what’s your take?

It is strange though that there aren’t more players of Asian descent, especially with the large population of Indian (/Pakistani/Bangledeshi etc.) people in the inner cities. Wonder why that is? I can’t think of one in the premiership, which seems crazy. I know there aren’t as many as white or black folk and there are bend it like beckham cliches, but you’d think a couple would slip through like we are starting to get some play cricket proffesionally.

i know lots of qualiy asian footbalers but the problem is the culture, asian parents want thier kids to be doctors, lawayers accountants a job that is suitable and recoginiziable.

Anyway is there any arsenal youngster in arsenal under 16 who is a real top player that other clubs like chelsea or manutd are after? Do we have a messi type player a dribbler?

I hope Jack wilshere does well but the player i am really looking foward to is Nicklas bendtner if adebayor leaves than this kid may step up. I have been watching this kid from the reserves and i was thought he was better than luopli and quicny owusua baeyie cause he has the inteligence to play and has the physical attributes. He use to set up lupoli all the time, beating players slipping passes and is like a bergkamp with electric pace.

Jack Wilshire is either going to be a Winger or a Forward playing in the hole. He likes to drift in to the centre, which is something that Wenger emphasises. I really hope that they can keep the hype off this lad till he is 18-19, we all know what that does to young English players (step forward Bentley, Pennant et al). He is quite slight in build and will need to spend the next 2 years building himself up if he plans to play in the premiership.

Some of you need to get a life, does it matter when Nasri actually signs? To my knowledge the deal is wrapped up but Arsenal want to do photographs and make sure everything is smooth before we announce it. Let the kid have a long holiday, give him a break so he is fresh for next season.

Why does it matter if he signs today, or if he signs during pre season. All I know is, he will play for Arsenal in August if he signs today, and he will still play for Arsenalin August if he signs on July 14th…Same Difference…

Relax, guys! Rome wasn’t built in a day… I think that Nasri signed a pre-agreement, just the announcement is delaying. Or can you remember Zidane’s move from the Juventus to Real Madrid? And who is Nasri? (The new-Zidane :P) If Wenger wants him, he will catch him. And I think the Arsenal need a such young and great player, as Nasri. And if he will score i.e. 20 goals in the new season, everyone will forget this saga.So let’s wait 10 days. If we could wait from May, these ten days won’t matter. I am also angry with Nasri, but he is a great player, and I think he will join to Arsenal within days. (As Pape Diouf said on Wednesday. He said firstly “two days”, but after said “within days.”)

Its a smart choice in many ways, but the two main reasons are that:

    A. Getting into the Ghanaian youth sides and even the fist team one day wont be as hard as getting into the England side.
    B. Because england have so many players right accross the board (and i dont care what any1 says about foreigners in the prem and 20% english kinda shit, we have lots of options) he’ll probably be given far more attention whilst coming throu the Ghana ranks and closer more personal guidance.

E.g. for the first team barring injuries and bad form for CB we have:

Terry, Ferdinand, Woodgate, King, Dawson, Wheater, Campbell (dont think hes retired yet and hes doin ok for Portsmouth), Davies (i think he’ll become a great player, seems really driven and at the same time humble and self critical, which can help him come a long way), Richards, Lesscott, Jagielka… and ive probably missed some1.

He looks ok for the reserves but ill admit for Birmingham he had a couple of shockers. However if ur saying Djourou needs more experiance u can hardly then say Nordtveit is ready to act as direct back-up after Sendaros, having never played a first team game yet. Nordtveit will probably only get games in the CC next season, maybe a league debut u neva know but hes not guna b fourth choice, Djourou and Song (if wenger continues to consider him a CB) will both be ahead of him, making him 6th choice first team centre back.

Crist, if we can get him for 15mil then that would be a good bit of buisness cuz hes gotta be worth about 25mil, especially after him Euro exploits.
Still duno how much i want him, i admire his playing ability but i dont know if hes any better than Ade and hes not close to Van Persie, who, if fit will be massive next season and over his whole time at the club (hopefully a very long time).

Signing Villa would also signal the end of either Bendtner, Vela, Eduardo or Barazites Arsenal careers, as we’d have 6 first team players for 1 position and 1 kid ready to break throu but no space for him.

Ade stays and you’ll all be singing for him next season, can’t see why people would want Santa Cruz instead. It’s not for nothing AC Milan and Barcelona want to pay big bucks for him. He’s a nuique striker who can be a legend for us. People question his loyalty because he wants to get paid more. I think it’s not that weird that he wants to get paid more… It’s how the world of football works these days. I don’t want Arsenal to participate in buying players for million like Chelsea etc. But we should adjust our wage structure in order to keep our players. We can’t keep losing them because we don’t pay well, I’d rather keep 2 players by giving them a payrise than spending million on others who will take time to settle and once they settle they will want more money as well.

Lads my thoughts are similar to above – the NAsri transfer is massive compared to normal wenger buys. If im right it will be a transfer record for the club. A pre-contract has been signed with him and he is like most players on Holiday after the Euros. Id say he will sign once wenger is back at pre season he will unveil him and do the usual photos.

Johnny Maverik – I think Djourou is a lot better than most think. Before he went to Birmingham he had a few games next to, Toure I think it was, and he looked good. He is inexperienced, he needs to be next to someone to learn and take confidence from. The guy is very talented, I think it’s just lack of confidence which is holding him back. If he gets a few games next to Gallas or Toure, a run of games, I think he would push his way into first team contention. It’s all very well putting him in the carling cup team, but that just puts massive pressure on him, and does not allow him to settle into the team. He is never going to be what I call the ‘first centreback’, the tony adams type who leads from the front, wins every ball and tackle…if he makes it, it will be as the ‘second centreback’ more in the style of Kolo, covering the other centre back with his pace, tracking the runs of opposition strikers, interceptions etc. To have a top quality defence, you need to have a balance of these players (that is why Gallas and Toure does not work in my opinion, and why Gallas looked a much better player when Terry was next to him) Also, we need to remember that Johan is still young in terms of a centreback…

People react the same as they did when Kanu came to Arsenal. Yes he isn’t the striker who will convert every chance but he is far more inportant than that. Last season when we lacked goals from our midfielders he was there to compensate. We didn’t have a pires, overmars to score 15+ goals a season. RVP and Eduardo were missing most of the season, these guys can be good for 15+ goals a season each. Adebayor gives a dimension to Arsenal’s free flowing game. When we needed a physical presence in certain games he was there to fullfill that role and giving the opposition defenders a torrid time. But he’s more than that for his lenght he is a tricky and reasonably fast player. His technique is quite good. The only thing he lacks in is his passing and heading although you can see he was improving as the season went on. Adebayor is an important part of the Arsenal machine that conquered the world with their beautiful football. People really need to wake up and shouldn’t believe every single report in the news. If everything was true than Messi would really play for Zenith and Zidane would already have made 3 comebacks.

Saying that we are being messed around by Marseille just makes you look very naive…you don’t know that is the reason, you are just fishing it out of thin air in another angry rant. Have you thought that MAYBE it is us delaying the transfer until we have the cash? Maybe we want to sort out the Hleb & Adebayor sagas before making any other signings. Maybe Wenger is putting all his interest into those issues and has just told Nasri to go away on holiday for a well earned rest…thankfully, football clubs main interest is in being successful, and they put the players interests, and the health of the team first…not, the massed ranks of doom-mongers who blight this blog…

Very possible, hes played there for the reserves and had some very good games aswell, scored a couple from what i remember. Possibly he’ll switch with Song? As in Song will be back-up defender after Sendaros and Djourou will play midfield, either back up for who ever steps in for Flamini or even (although this is unlikely) might manage to grab the position himself.

You know anything about this or is this news to you mate? Even if u don’t know anything about it at least say that please mate cos i want some sort of indication as to his potential talent.
