Arsenal have invited cash strapped link club UD Salamanca to England for next years Emirates Cup, after the Union’s president’s Miguel Torrecilla and Juan José Pascual completed a week long stay in London.
The Spanish outfit travel to England every year for an annual meeting, with the Gunners offering them the chance to play in the prestigious Emirates Cup next August. It is also believed that not only will their flights and accommodation all be paid for by Arsenal, but they will be allowed to keep a large amount of the gate receipts to help their financial issues which nearly saw them go out of business last year.
Juan José Pascual told reporters yesterday they had agreed for Pedro Botelho to return to Spain next year, and that Arsène Wenger had informed them his scouts were looking all over America for a player to send to Salamanca for next year. He also admitted the possibility was strong that should the search be unsuccessful, they would be taking a Reserves player, with Nacer Barazite or Fran Mérida the only talents they would accept.
“Arsène Wenger has given us the OK to sign a player from his Reserve team, but this would mean an extra cost to the club in terms of wages.
“He told us not to give out any names”
Whilst Pascual wanted to keep his cards close to his chest, his co-worker Torrecilla was a little more revealing, telling El Adelanto:
“We believe it is an important option for us to look outside the box, either in Argentina, Brazil, or Portugal.”
“They (Arsenal) have identified the player we can loan”
Some reports around last week suggested Real Sociedad were keen on loaning Barazite, Mérida and Pedro following an article on SkySports, which was a carbon copy of the one on Young Guns a week before. But Pedro is at Salamanca now for training, and will be with them for the next campaign before returning to Arsenal.
As for the players who will be heading to Spain on loan, the search continues for our scouts.
Article By – J.Sanderson
go go salamanca!
Good article.
Hey Sanderson, what’s going on with the Amaury Bischoff signing? Seems to have gone luke warm.
Bischoff is working in the Arsenal gym, he must prove his fitness before a deal is done.
and thanks
I don’t believe for one minute we will rush around and find a player just to please Salamanca. We will already have targets and it will be a case of closing a deal on who we think has the best potential.
As many have said here Barazite going there is a complete waste of time and if we had to send anyone it would be Denilson. For two years he hasn’t looked like the same player and I think Wenger’s comments about bringing in another midfielder may well be a direct result of just how out of sorts Denilson looks.
Well done JS, you must be chuffed with Sky Sports copying your articles. Maybe you should should start charging!
Wow, fair enough to us but i hate to sound really bad here but i would rather have the prestigious team in the emirates cup!
Next year i would like to have had Barca, Roma and Bayern Munich.
But still if we could get 2 of those with salamanca then i guess it would be ok!
J do you think that Barazite would be happy to go out on loan considerin people have been talkin about him possibly making the step up this season?
Great that Arsenal are helping them out with so many aspects. It’s too bad they don’t play in the Spanish Liga but I reckon the Spanish second division is of a good level as well. I think Merida will go to them for another loan spell if we aren’t signing someone from South America…
Thanks for the reply JS.
Claude – was thinking the same thing lol.
Will Merida really be allowed out on loan? Won’t he be closer to the first team than that?
Ben Jones – We have a contract with Salamanca with says he must offer them at least one non E.U player every year. If we do not do that then we break the contract.
Claude – Haha maybe, Arsenal.com almost copy and pasted my article on Merida! so i take it as praise in a wierd type of way.
I would prefer Barazite to stay tbh, i think the problem is that he is too good for the Reserves, but not quite ready for the first team.
off topic: pple keep insultin denilson he played well yday in my opinion sanderson wat do u think of denilson goin out on loan n wat r the chances
sounds like a deal suited to Merida.
J.S do you think wenger might be saying he needs one more body in midfield and that body could be Biscoff? I mean if that happens and we dont buy anyone else, the fans are going to be pretty worried with the lack of prem experience to a key position. Biscoff even admits he’d be a reserve!
I thought Denilson played well yesterday too. I think the problem is that he is not a DM and people are expecting him to be. I noticed on 2-3 occasions he was very static and didnt read the danger, and even against some Hungarian side that is worrying.
I dont think a loan would happen, but maybe it would do him good.
gazzap – Bischoff would be a Reserve team player at most for the first few months. I would count him out of any suggestions of new signings.
I was surprised that Barazite is not in the Austria group whilst Wilshere and Lansbury where. Will Merida and Gibbs be involved in the coming pre-season games? Maybe Barazite will go to Ajax for a season
Must admit when i first saw Denilson play i thought he was a more Fabregas type, like to link up play and was good at getting attacks working going forward but really lacked ability when goin back towards our goal. I think he has the ability to be a very good player but seems to be losing his way lately!
“Haha maybe, Arsenal.com almost copy and pasted my article on Merida! so i take it as praise in a wierd type of way.”
Lazy gits. Hopefully when the new site is done they’ll start being a bit more on the ball, i.e. no more waiting 2 weeks to find out the score of an U18 game.
Merida is the more likely one since he is spanish and needs more first team experiance but i feel Barazite would benefit more, as he really needs first team experiance now and Salamanca would be a perfect opertunity, where as he is unlikely to get more than 3 games for Arsenal next season. I also feel Merida now needs a chance to show his first team value in the Carlin Cup, hes come so far in the last 2 seasons, real quality player.
Oh…and as for Salamanca coming to the Emirates cup, good news! Its nice to give something back to a club thats helping us out (not that they arent getting anything in return, what with having great young talents at their disposal). Also… if they are guna b taking players on loan from us every season id imagine it’d be an oppertunity for the fans to see them, since they would be almost certain to be included in the squad they bring to the cup and in most cases likely to game some playing time.
to *gain*
JS – What you know about the comments Bergkamp supposed to have made about taking youngsters from Arsenal. I personnaly don’t think Ajax would do that as they have their own youth and it’s unlikely that they will put Arsenal youth a head of their own.
Is it possible though that we can loan them a player like Djourou, or is he in Arsene’s first team plans?!!
Denilson needs to be loaned out to another premiership club. A run of games will do him the world of good. Just too risky for him to do that here for us.
AW said last season (I think either on The Cesc Fabregas Show or Arsenal question time) that when a player is at a certain level where he is too good for the reserves and not quite ready for the first team they need to be loaned out so that they can have a run of games at a higher level in order to adapt and gain valuable experience. Thats where Barazite and Merida are right now. They need that experience. Thats why i dont think AW will buy a striker coming into his prime or in his prime. It will “Kill” Barazite in a way. He is too special to do that to.
P.S. Ash – I think Barazite is there. He should feature on Monday along with a few others that didnt yesterday such as Nortveit, Nasri, etc.
No quotes in your article relating to the potential of Salamanca participating in any future Emirates Cup tournament.
j lets say salamanca have a a young superstar in there squad. Would we be able to buy him on the cheap. Seeing as we are helping there club so much.
Ash, I think Barazite is thereas is Nordveit, but they weren’t involved in yesterdays game.
When I was watching the build up of the game, Arsenal TV showed us who was in the squad for the Austrian tour and both Barazite and Norveit were on the list along with all the first team bar Cesc, Rosicky and Eduardo.
my veiw is that we should send barazite or Francis Coquelin 2 salamanca as both seem to be a cut above the reserves and regular 1st team games would improve their skills
go union!!!!! :)
Mouhsin – Everybody wants Arsenal youngsters, Ajax have an amazing Academy, i dont see why they need them.
def – There were no quotes around the actual enterance to the cup, but the info was mention in Salamanca daily “El Adelanto”.
Kevin – Yep of course. Three of their youth squad came to London last year on trial. If we want any of their players we can have them for a small fee.
Yeah, good point – I was wondering about Bischoff too, free agent iirc – so there should be little to arrange bar a contract – you’d think AW would want him to join up with the team asap.
In regards to the two games played so far, I won’t go into one about Wilshire and Coquelin who both looked pretty tasty.
I realize that these are fitness games and not to read too much into them, but..
Nordveidt looked like he read the game well (hampered by Justin Hoyte as the CD partner) but was outpaced and went to ground too often (although that’s refreshing since NONE of our midfielders ever tackle).
Theo (great finish from a great Bendtner take-down and through ball) cannot beat (less-than) journeymen defenders one on one, I seriously worry about this. The tail end of last season he looked to have come on a lot, so perhaps it’s a confidence thing (scary that he can be THIS shit or THAT good depending on his confidence) but he really needs to step up his basic game, he should be skipping around these players for fun. Loses the ball too often, and losing possession in the Prem is a crime that will often cause us to pay the price.
Bendtner, notoriously slow starter, looks leaner than last year which is good and willing to use his size to push defenders around. I think he’s a much better (technically speaking) player than Adebeyor, and whilst not ‘fast’ he’s not that slow either. Lets see how he performs in the two pre-season tourneys.
Randall, stick him in a car with no brakes with Eboue, and the Hoyte Bro’s. Push down a hill, at the bottom of which is a cliff. He struts around like he’s already in the first team but loses the ball SO often that I can’t see him making it. Yet this clown wore the armband in the 2nd half at Barnet. A few good passes, some decent runs – but selfish and VERY, VERY careless distribution.
Lansbury, not as hungry for the ball as perhaps he should be (trying to impress the manager), looked useful on the ball, good link play and bringing the ball out of defence. I had always thought he was an inside fwd. Needs to express more hunger – nice shot.
Ramsey, looked ordinary/tired compared to vs Barnet. Perhaps his fitness levels are very low compared to typical Prem levels, and I know the squad are tired from the extreme daily training. Hopefully he doesn’t eat at Johnny Hartson’s fave Welsh Diner in London.
Traore, I had such high hopes for him. Looks blessed with pace, skill & balance – but doesn’t have the brain for making the most of it. Is definitely NOT a defender. He is better than the clueless hoofs into the box he is delivering.
Rui Fonte, looks one of the better players with the ball at his feet, clever play but somehow not involved with the key moves in the games (when he was on). Pushed around easily.
Jay Simpson, unlucky to be given an opportunity to play when ALL the creative midfielders were off the pitch. Given 30-70 balls to chase by the inspired clubfoot of Randall. I’d like to see him given more of a chance as he at least looked hungry. Great goal vs Barnet – but want to see more of him.
Denilson, started slowly, does a job in the middle pushing and probing. When he first broke onto the scene he (played) looked like close of Cesc. Seems to have gone backwards a little. Not great but not bad. Looks to be at the fringe of the first team. Hopefully not 1st choice partner for Cesc.
Carlos Vela, given that this was his first ‘game’ with teammates I thought he looked very promising (not on quite the same wavelength but that will come with familiarity), and probably one of the closest to first team material. But.. bloody header that ball ffs! it was screaming to be nutted!
Sagna and Clichy were awesome as usual (lol as Central defenders too!). If I have one criticism, Sagna really must do better than hitting the first defender with EVERY cross. They almost always move to block, so knock it past them or cross earlier. Some great covering and interceptions by both at the other end.
Hoyte and Hoyte, Gavin looked more comfortable at CB than Justin (to be expected right? since Gav plays there normally) – but such lapses in concentration are alarming.
We’ve shown some goal threat in the first two games, but apart from Wilshere – we were without a world of creativity from the midfield: Cesc, Rosicky, Nasri, Diaby, (Eboue can Foxtrot Oscar)
Given that I think the top 3 will favour 4-5-1 quite a lot this season, I think Wenger needs either a complete destroyer as a defensive midfielder (a la Vieira, or think Makalele for Real Madrid), or he will need to play two ‘potentials’ either side of Fabregas. Coquelin looked hungry and (YAY!) is hungry to tackle! (WOOT!!! a DCM that tackles!!), but I think needs another one alongside him to protect the defence.
Personally I would push for Barry AND/OR Kompany, as both are completely at home in DCM or CD – that would give us a lot of height, strength, power and options (because Senderos isn’t seriously) in place of Kolo and Bill.
Almunia – good solid keeper, saves everything you expect him to, but never pulls one out that separates a Seaman/Schmiecal from regular keeper.
so j they are our official feeder club. Do we have any other clubs that we have a similar parnership with apart from salamanca, and real socieadead(spelling)
J any update on the Gallas rumours…
JS – My club here in Holland PSV signed this little peruvian trickster, what you think of him, amazing skills ha?!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eyUOzVanio
The feeling is is that Patrik(sao caetano)will be the player going to Salamanca. He is now 18 so we can officially sign him.
J can you tell me what simpson said in his interview with ATVO about his future
This wont happen we have a three year deal with sky sports to show the cup and we earn a lot from this deal and the sponsership but we promised sky that every year we would have top teams so a second divsion team dream on. Mabye we might play them in just a frendly that is belivable
Bloody hell Alex, and i thought i wrote too much on here.
Cnt believe i just read all that (not cuz it isnt worth reading just cuz its so long), some stuff i agree with, some i dont.
Randall and Landsbury are better players than they’ve shown over the last 2 games so dnt get too judgemental on them. Gavin wasnt better than Justin, he looked way out of his depth (Justin wasnt much better though) and hes definatly not ready for First team football or probably even Carling Cup games yet based on that performance. He struggles with strikers in the reserves at times aswell… I still think Diaby should be given a chance next to Cesc, i know alot of people dont like that idea but i think he can make that position his own and do a great job.
Still think Sendaros is over critisised, he is a very unlucky player, makes one mistake and it always seems to lead to a goal. Against Milan in the CL he was a rock and MOM in my opinion, all he needs to do is try and give that performance every game.
Johnny i agree with you on Diaby.
I really rate him and i think that he has come along a lot since he first came onto the scene.
Sometimes gets caught out too cheaply but that is what he needs a run for, to get that experience of being closed down and having to think about that pass he wants to make and do it quicker than he is at the mo, but i really think that he could compliment Cesc in the middle.
Also i would like Wilshere to get a good run out in the CC this season. I know he is young but i really think that he has got a lot in his locker and could really be a very good player for us in the future.
Senderos**
Whos Patrik? If its the same player we were linked to a while back didnt he play for Heart of Oak or summin, and went to Ath Madrid? I swear that kid was also called Patrik. Never heard of a Patrik from Sao Caetano but there again if hes young i supose i wouldent have.
So whats he like, and how strong are the links to us?
“Also i would like Wilshere to get a good run out in the CC this season.”
Id like to see him come off the Bench but i duno about him starting. He struggled physically yesterday, and although he played well and im sure would do the same in a Carlin Cup match, if he picks up a bad injury it can be the end before its really began. Dont forget Ryan Garry… he could have been an Arsenal Legend. Aliadierre would have been twice the player he is if he’d avoided that terrible injury aswell.
^ Agreed. I also read Alex’s rant, lol. Wilshere and Harvard should be Cemented for a bench spot atleast. Wilshere more as we don’t have enough Wingers. Senderos would be better if he didn’t feel that the other CB is reliable, i know sounds a bit odd. But if the lad’s playing alongside say… Nord, he wouldn’t do too much mistakes IMO. Vela looked nice and i think over estimates to the younger players as he was giving unreadable passes (which is good) but not when you don’t know them yet. + Salamanca Yeah !
Wenger said there are 11 more players in the squad in Austria who did not play yesterday, suggesting no Barazite, Merida or Gibbs. I assume that means the remaining players are all first teamers:
Fabianski, Eboue, Toure, Gallas, Senderos, Djourou, Song, Diaby, Nasri, RVP, Ade.
vela held up the ball yday very well more to cum frm him i think we should play him on the left n arsene should jus tell him run at the defenders, hes nt mature n physical enough for striker i think the same thing should b done wid walcott on the opposite win g anyone agree,??
and wats goin on wid patrik from sao caetano anyone gt a vid of him?
haha atleast we know who the whipping boys are going to be in the emirates cup
ditto all that has been said of Diaby in terms of his abilities, however it is his poor injury record that compromises any chance of him holding down that first team spot.
has anyone heard that kolo has malaria?? it was in the mirror 2day and it said he could miss the start of the season? JS have u heard of this? seriously worrying if we are forced to start with hoyte/sendoros/anyone else at CB. All the arsenal youngsters look brilliant! and we shouldnt write any off before there careers have begun! remember ian wright was a late starter in football and what a legend he turned out to be!
Nice article J, cheers.
Also, Kudos on such a good site giving the best feedback and updates on aspiring Gooner talent. A beautiful oasis of a website amongst the murky sea of Tribal and Sultana Shites. oops, sites!
I can’t see Denilson going to Salamanca, as I believe the level of football is too low for him to improve there, Championship would be better, but don’t think that is even quick enough.
Ajax on the other hand could beckon though…?
Also, Torrecilla mentioned we are looking in Portugal, Argentina and Brazil for a quality youth signing, but surely Portugal is out of consideration as the player needs to be non-eu, or am I mistaken?
would be great if arsenal signed lulinha from corinthians and loand him out to salamanca along with pedro
I bet Lulinha ends up at the Chavs. I wouldnt be surprised if the non-eu player we signed was his team-mate Dentinho tho. I know we were linked with him before…
We need to send them 1 non-eu player each season right? Well for this coming season it is going to be Pedro so we might not sign any new player from south america.
However it would be nice to sign another player with as much talent as Vela from that part of the world. Even if we do have to wait 2 years before we see him in the red and white of the gooners.
does anyone have the full austria squad list? is eboue there because coquelin was wearing his 27 jersey or is he and song still out because of WC qualifiers?
“Portugal is out of consideration as the player needs to be non-eu, or am I mistaken?”
There are plenty of non-eu youngsters in Portugal from Africa and Brazil due to the language.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME IM TRYING TO MAKE COMPLIMATION VIDEOS ON SOME OF OUR YOUNG PLAYERS DO YOU NO HOW I GET THEM TO WORK IN MOVIE MAKER ?
lulinha would be a great young signing to put on loan but i think they recognise this in brazil and so he would not be cheap. anyone worrying about the centre back problem i’m telling you samba from blackburn. has his best years ahead of him, wouldn’t cost a bundle and has the physical presence. am i the only person that rates him because when i watched him last season he was immense
Does anybody have any idea when Coquelin turns 18?
I hope the player we send to Salmanca is a Brazilian or Argentinian as Arsenal could have got Kaka when he was younger if it wasnt fof the fact we wuld have been unable to get him a work permit.
no that was ronaldinho… kaka was found to lightweight!
TJ – 13.05.1991
Thanks Baz
Hey Sanderson What do you know about Claudio Marchisio
hey J good article when is the .com coming? anytime soon? and for people saying about a more prestigious team coming instead of salamanca. arsenal play the best 2 teams normally so therefore we shouldnt play them :) and as far as bischoff goes he is already and waiting but we have to wait for a tribunal to decide how much compensation we will have to pay…
Alex, Barry is not even the DM for Ast Villa [Reo coker does] and it shows when he plays in that roll for England. As for players like simpson, he wont make it @ arsenal bcuz there is too many players ahead of him in his position but with alot hardwork with coaches, he probably will be able to play in the Prem.
As for Denilson, it seem someone has stole his vision and confidence, he isnt dominating games with his passes as he used to but playing too many simple sideway passes. Hopefully just as quickly as his skills disappeared, they would comeback as quickly bcuz i have been rewatching some of his performances in the C.Cup from 2 seasons ago, he was brilliant.
The problem with traore is, he refuses dribble on the inside of the fullback as a result defenders know that he is going on the outisde & can nullify him
J. Sanderson,
Why do you say that Denilson isn’t a DM? He may not be an out and out DM, but neither was Flamini.
Denilson captained Brazil’s U20 team as the DM. When he was signed Wenger described him as a ball winner that could also play, and Wenger said he was a “mix of Gilberto and Rosicky.”
So, I think Denilson does have strong defensive qualities, we just haven’t seen them that much and our attention has been focused more on his passing ability, especially since he was often played with Gilberto or Diarra last season so he had to adapt his game and try to play the Cesc role even if it wasn’t natural to him.
Please don’t vouch for Senderos, he’s toast in the EPL. Can’t handle Drogba, Santa Cruz, Torres, Ronaldo and even Martins. Remember the own goal against Villa that denied us 2 more points? CL against POOL? He’s the new Cygan. He’s left with two years on his contract and if by that time he’s still where he is, Arsene won’t renew it.
Denilson is also on a shaky ground now with all these competitions. He should have forced himself into the team last season but was poor. This year, there are so many players competing, Ramsay, Diaby, Coquelin and at 20, time is running out. I don’t see him making any step up upwards.
Hi guys,
Salamanca has not been invited to the Emirates Cup, we would be glad to participate in such a good tournament, however as far as I know (I live in Salamanca) this is not the case.
Arsenal has invited Salamanca to participate in the “Arsenal cup”, not sure if this is the right name, a tournament for under 18 players that is held every August, and we will probably send a team next year (If we can afford it !).
The deal between Salamanca and Arsenal consists in sending 2 non EU players on loan from Arsenal to Salamanca every season, because only Pedro has been sent so far and it´s not sure if another player will be signed by Arsenal, Salamanca has asked for permission to cover the second non EU spot by themselves (only 2 non EU players are allowed in the spanish second division).
I would like to wish you a very good season and that cooperation between both clubs can continue as good (or even better) as it went so far. Arsenal is also a little bit in our hearts now.
You will enjoy Vela, he is great, he is fast and skilled, big future ahead. Pedro will be ready in a couple of seasons, just needs to learn playing with the rest of the team and be better tactically but has everythinhg to be a good player, just see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vffmJEaUEw
kind regards from Salamanca
“Please don’t vouch for Senderos, he’s toast in the EPL. Can’t handle Drogba, Santa Cruz, Torres, Ronaldo and even Martins. Remember the own goal against Villa that denied us 2 more points?”
Ill vouch for who eva the fk i want mate and in my opinion Sendaros is toast, hard burned toast, a big lump of carbon in our defence, a potential rock of a player. He is unlucky, makes the odd mistake and it always end up being a decicive one. As for the Own Goal…christ, loads of players score own goals, it happens, nt his fault.
At the moment he is a VERY unlucky player but on his day, and im guna use the Milan game as an example but there have been many others, he is a rock and he is a brilliant and reliable player.
Toure or Gallas made as many costly mistakes last season as Senderos so it’s kind of silly to try to blame our defensive problems on just him.
I agree with Johnny 100% about Senderos. VERY unlucky. He would cut out the long balls better than Gallas and Toure. Like AW said, defenders peak in their late twenties. FACT!
any idea squad for crawley on saturday ?
will be weak with the main players in austria WATFORD GUNNER
Johnny Maverick:
Not that I disagree with you but to say that Senderos is a piece of carbon in our defence is a bit dodgy. Pure carbon is in fact extremely brittle and bares very few charachteristics that a rock does.
Patrik is an 18yr old Brazilian midfielder who came on trial to Arsenal a couple of years ago and impressed all of the clubs coaching staff.Patrik has always stated that his dream is to stay at Sao Caetano until he is 18 and then sign for Arsenal.
Because of Fifa regulations european clubs cannot sign players from other continants until they are 18.Patrik is now 18 so can now make his move.
J.Sanderson who do you think will stay at arsenal and earn a place in the arsenal setup in the future:
WILSHERE(YEAH I KNOW HE WILL BUT I HAVE TO ASK)
RANDALL
LANSBURY
GIBBS
G.HOYTE
RODGERS
Please answer. thanks. ?????
I did say the tabloids will start using your material.Youngguns is just that good.Makes for a good updated news read everyday.Keep up the good work Mr Sanderson.
Salamanca? Talk about cheapening the whole event…heh.
javier’s comment about it being the U18 Arsenal Cup does seem to make more sense – I was trying to figure out which of this year’s teams would be happy to play against UD Salamanca O_o
As we attract teams of the calibre of Real Madrid, Juventus, and even Hamburg, I seriously doubt any of them would sign up to a tournament requiring them to play a Spanish second division team…
“Pure carbon is in fact extremely brittle and bares very few charachteristics that a rock does.”
…lol. I neva was ny good at Chemistry.
Seedorf, a point on your comments about Senderos – reliability in his partner doesn’t come into it – when he played against BlackBurn, he was being partnered by Song – hardly established. Song carried him, Senderos was awful. Frankly, he’s not good enough got Arsenal – as it takes him 10 games to get with the pace of the game, costing us valuable goals/pints along the way.
our future arsenal team:
fabianski
sagna nordveit song clichy
walcott ramsey/coquelin fabregas nasri
barazite/bendtner vela
Hi there. That information is not very correct. Union has not been invited to play Emirates cup, but a Youth Squad competition next year.
On the other hand, the president is Juanjo Pascual. Torrecilla is in charge of signing players and coordinating all the sport-related side of the club.
Thanks for all your comments and support to Salamanca!
If you want to visit us, you can open a thread in http://www.halaunion.com (section “La Unión, día a día”) Some of us speak English and if you open a thread in English you’ll get some answers ;)
Best regards from Spain!
