Arsenal Offer Barazite & Pedro Botelho To Real Sociedad

Arsenal have offered the services of Brazilian wing-back Pedro Botelho and Dutch striker Nacer Barazite to Spanish outfit Real Sociedad, as the Gunners look to establish a link with the San Sebastian outfit.

UD Salamanca had arranged a meeting with Arsenal two weeks ago, and a verbal agreement was reached which entailed that Pedro would in fact be spending the coming campaign with the Segunda outfit. However, reports in the local press claim the Gunners have back tracked on the deal, and have offered both 18 year olds to Sociedad on season long loans.

Real chairman Iñaki Badiola signed Fran Mérida from Arsenal last January, and despite a difficult start, he completed the season as a regular in the side which just missed out on promotion. Mérida will return to London after the Under 19 European Championships as a first team player, and the loaning of the pair would see them come back for the 09-10 season and challenge for a first team place.

Richard Law will continue to work with Salamanca and Arsenal, with suggestions that a South American player has already be purchased to go on loan to the Union next year. But with Sociedad proving a much bigger and attractive option, it seems the Gunners are swaying in favour of the Basque side.

Another season in Spain would certainly suit Pedro, as he would complete the criteria needed for a UK work permit, as well as gaining crucial experience in a promotion chasing outfit. Barazite on the other hand is considered one of the most exciting prospects in world football, and one Arsène Wenge is helping nurture carefully.

Should Sociedad accept one or both of the players, a link up between both clubs is imminent.

which divison are Real Sociadad in in Spain?

Same as Madrid and Barca, or the one below?

I would have thought Brazaite would have gone to Ajax on loan as we have a deal with them.

He will be Dutch U21 level next season, same as what Babel was when he left Ajax, playing in their first team.

Barazite is a quality player who will benefit from honing his creative skills in Spain rather than getting lumps kicked out of him in the Championship. Championship teams would not really use a player like him appropriately. I think Wenger knows what experience would benefit different types of players. Look at poor Djourou and how a loan spell with Birmingham has set him back so far.

Nacer shouldn’t go on loan PERIOD. He has been heand and shoulders above most of our young players. He deserves a run in the first team. Why on earth would we loan him to a Spanish Second Division team? He is Dutch for f-sake and doesn’t need a work permit. Arsene knows but if he does this I would be greatly disappointed.

No prem outfit would take his cuz he isnt proven at Premiership level and loan deals do cost, uve got wages which the loan club usually pay 100% of and for season-long loans there is usually a fee aswell, dotn get me wrong, to most premiership clubs it’ll be a minute figure, for the whole season it’ll probably be Lampards weekly wage, but premiership clubs r tight as hell, despite all their riches.

Socidade are a good side but Merida didnt get much of a look in there, Pedro might but Barazite would probably suffer from lack of oppertunities. Personally id prefere both to go to Salamanca.

Barazite going to Spain may be a good thing for him as it would allow him to develop in a first team away from the british media spotlight.

Pedro has no choice except to go back to Spain – but as it dosnt seem to have done Vela any harm, how can anyone complain.

W1n, I hope Diaby wouldn’t replace Flamini as he is an attacking midfielder and would have to be trained in the new position. Would therefore be hard to hit the ground running at the start of the season.

Jonny, fees for loans are a little higher than Fat Frank’s wages. We got £1m per season for Jeffers and Birmingham paid a record £1m to have Djourou for 6 months!

here is why this is a good move on our behalf
sending him to a championship club who has no real movement,no flow, no tactical prowlice is a waste .the only useful thing about keeping him in england would be getting him used to the thuggish style of play which i am sure he has become aware of
whilst sending him to spain where they in general at all levels have a more open flow to their game and still good enough to give him well earned experience

why is barazite going on loan?

Because of vela. they both play striker/left wing, and vela is further along in his development. but barazite also is at the point where he needs playing time, so this move makes sense.

Also, j, I know you’ve covered this before, but do you see botelho as being premier league quality?

    Just to clarify;

This myth that the prem is the ONLY league in this country that has decent attacking football is GARBAGE!

Sure there are hoof merchants and cloggers, but hey, we got them in the Prem too!

There are decent footballing sides in the Championship AND below too.

Loaning Barazite to a lower division team won’t wreck his career, could be the making of it.

Sending him to Spain just seems a bit OTT.

Spike, the trouble is that if he stays with us Barazite will not get to play as much in a competitive environment. Arsene would probably demand some guarantees re playing time from Sociedad as he has previously complained about loaning players who then don’t get to play, which is pretty much a waste of everyone’s time. If he has those guarantees, why not? We have to remember that Barazite is only 17, a year on loan will help to round out his experience as he has already experienced the rough and tumble of English football in the reserves.

I don’t understand why a lot of people are surprised or mortified that Barazite is being sent to a spanish side???!!! Where has Vela just come from? He spent a year in their second division and then a year in their top flight and everyone is drooling at the fact that he’s come home to put on an Arsenal shirt (yes he had to get his passport in spain but it’s still the same learnig curve). Why would this be a bad thing for Barazite to hone his technical ability? I’d like to see him play a handful of games for us this season but thinking of the bigger picture i’d prefer him to go to spain as a great prospect and return home a fantastic & experienced player….

All loan spells are producive, even when players dont play so much, they get education with the first team and learn about the match day routine.

    great work, JS
I feel it would be helpful if he goes out on loan to sociedad as he will get some good exposure. And the fact that they routinely are in the promotion fracas at the top of the table will be good for him. I have no idea about how much pedro has come on and so I’m not sure if this is a good move. If pedro doesnt play regularly he will go backwards.

I felt sending fran to sociedad was a mistake. He is spanish and already has the technical gifts. He needs toughening up and should have been sent to the championship instead. But at the end of the day, AW sees them regularly and is the best judge of what will help whom

Isn’t Gourcuff going to Bordeaux? Maybe that’s Gouffran, I always get them mixed up.

Gourcuff was the next Zidane before Nasri and then had the unfortunate situation of competeting with Kaka for a place. He is a good player alright, but understandably, no Kaka. With a run of games, he’d be more productive than Hleb in goal and assist tallys but doesn’t have the same spark Hleb has but there aren’t many in the world who do what Hleb does anywhere as well. He’d be good and a genuine RW for the next couple years but Theo will genuinely be competetion for the next season and may even be a better choice if he plays like he did at the tail-end of the season consistantly. And Gourcuff wants (ney, needs) games, so…

I’d personally accept the bid, 24 is an outstanding amount of money and Gourcuff is a good player who given the right guidance (and where better) could be great. Not a Kaka or a Ljungberg great, but reliable and way better than Eboue.

If Barazite was to regularly play, I’d have no problem with him going. I thought Salamancia sold their LB to allow for Pedro? It seems unfair for us to stitch them up like this, very un-Arsenal like.

Also, the Ajax link is all but finalised. MVB has spoken about it and Bergkamp will be there! Even if nothing happens in writing, we will still have a great relationship with them, like having Adams high up at Portsmouth.

Internet Gooner….i know he is an attacking midfielder and all, but dont you think he would thrive in that holding midfielder role? Imagine, a defensive mid who can attack just as well. I remember him being labeled the next PV4, but i honestly think he has potential to be better~ Diaby is a lot faster with better ball control and skills.

If wenger can mould him to an all round midfielder….08/09 will be Arsenal’s year!!!

I don’t think the ‘media spotlight’ would be a problem at all for Barazite in England; it would only be so were he English. As valuable as a season in Spain would be for Nacer, surely a season on loan to an English club would help to ease him into Premiership football with Arsenal more seamlessly. I thought the main purpose of sending the likes of Vela and Pedro on loan to Spain was due to the work permit issue. It will be interesting to see how Fran has matured when he returns for us this season.

Didn´t Benfica buy Angel di María? But about Barazite. I think he would be one of the best players in the segunda division. Remember that he only a year younger than Vela so he would be a year older than Vela was at Salamanca. I am not comparing Vela and Barazite but Nacer is simply amazing. He can become an Arsenal great if things are done properly.

I am going to speculate a bit about our players born in ´89 and ´90. Those are the players that really need playing time, at Arsenal or somewhere else, or else leave the club.

    – Vela and Walcott are by far the best and will be regulars in the first team squad this season. I think that either one of them will start the majority of our games this season. Aaron Ramsey will also be a regular in the squad.
-Traore, Randall, Gibbs and Pedro are some way away from the first team and should probably go on a loan. I know some of you are great admirers of Randall but I think Lansbury and Merida will be way ahead of him next season.
-Then there are 4 players that all are born in ´90 and I have high hopes for. Those are Lansbury, Merida, Barazite and Nordveit. The situation is tricky and very different for each. They all played in the CC last season, except Nordveit as he got injured.
-Nordveit will be a part of the first team and play a bit. I think that as the season goes on he will end up being on the bench every week.
-Lansbury is fighting back to fitness after his sickness but is destined for greatness. The road to the first team is long but if he can get fit he might be challenging players like Diaby and Denilson for their places in the team. CC starts are certain for him as well.
-Merida can play everywhere in attack and that will help him. He is a great talent and I think that he should stay and fight for a place in the team. He is no Fabregas but a great player nevertheless. I´m guessing he might get the 10 EPL games needed to receive a medallion for our League Championship.
-Barazite might be the best of him, Lansbury and Merida but his situation is different. He is mainly a striker and in that department the competition is hard. With the current squad he would be no. 7, considering that Vela and Walcott would probably be chosen ahead of him. So a loan spell sounds like a perfect option as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for reading. I just figured I would put this list together as I didn´t feel like going to sleep. I better get to it though, as I have to wake up in 6 hours.

I agree with most if not all of ur point and evaluations. Ur also right about Di Maria, Benfica did buy him, we were close but in the end he chose them. I seem to remember he gave the excuse that he’d get an easier time of getting games, which is a valied one, but i also feel that it may have been because he’d have to have gone out on loan, as i duno if we would have been able to get a work permit for him.

The championship is rubbish football. The only thing he’ll get good at is avoiding those “clumsy” tackles that end with skillful players getting their legs broken.

Diaby is definitely not the right answer for that defesnive midfield position. His only quality is he has very good close control on the ball. He lacks vision, he’s a poor passer, he can’t tackle, and he doesn’t read the game well. He doesn’t beging to compare with Vieira. You’re comparing a guy that when everyone’s fit can barely make the bench to a world class midfielder who came into the team as a 19 year old and put players on the bench.

Here comes “Me” and his half-dicked comments again.

By the way I’ll be making a few generalisations here; don’t flame me or anything please. Personally I see the Spanish leagues as more passing-oriented and technical, while the English style relies more on the player’s fitness and physical attributes.

So players like Botelho should be sent on loan to Championship sides, so as to get more used to the rough and tumble of Englsh league games. He’d do well improving on his physique; his technique is pretty much there, imo. As for Barazite, a move to Sociedad would for him be great, as he’d be allowed to hone the technical aspect of his game.

Spain is obviously seen as the best place we can send players to obtain permits and obviously sending them to Sociedad is to try and help them be promoted so in the long term we will have our loanees playing with the best in the world in La Liga. (I guess if we just tried to use Osasuna they might not get guaranteed first team regular football?) Mouhsin .. Me recks that 3 is the most likely – as this surely cant be our last signing. If this was the case, i would be dissapointed

Joshwaaa, I wouldn’t be that dissapointed if the squad stays like this, I think we have to put faith in our young team and sometimes we can find a “new signing” within our team just like Flamini last year.

The Daddy – Why is that a fact?!! I prefer to see him playing with the first team than seeing him out on loan too, but on the other hand maybe Wenger has a plan for him just like Carlos Vela and wants him to play regularly, maybe Barazite himself wants to be loaned out to improve who knows?!!

J, great site mate – one of the best out there. Where is Merida likely to play, could he play alongside cesc, or are they too similar?

Wenger would’nt be daft enough to send a young dutch player to a foreign league,Especially when Barazite needs games in one of the top two English divisions to toughen him up.

I don’t think every Arsenal player needs to toughen up, it shoes that tough football doesn’t neccesairly mean succes. I think a option of loaning him out to a championship side would also be good for him but still I prefer to see him train with the first team and even get some games… I think he’s ready for it!
