Carlos Vela Presented – First Interview Transcript

Mexican striker Carlos Vela was officially presented as an Arsenal player this afternoon, and gave his first official interview with the club’s website Arsenal.com.

The 19 year old was first asked what it was like to finally complete his move to North London, and the youngster admitted it was a proud occasion to finally become a Gunner

“I am very proud to finally be here and I am truly very happy,”

“I have been waiting three years for this moment and now I am here I will work very hard to earn my place in the first-team and I hope to be at this club for a very long time.”

Although his English needs some work, the players have taken to the like-able Mexican.

“The players have received me very well and been very welcoming. Of course, it takes a few days to get used to everything new but, little by little, I will find my place and be ready to perform for the team.”

There have been some reports in the Spanish press that Vela’s loan spells have turned the transfer into a sham, but both the agent and player dismiss this claim.

“It has helped me,” he said. “First of all it taught me what it was like being away from your home country – that helped me grow up as a person and as a player. I think that the Spanish and English style of football is the best in the world. I think also that playing against the best players in the world can only help me grow as a player.

“Yes to be honest the (Osasuna) team wasn’t the strongest in the division but it is in that kind of situation you learn more. The whole experience was a big lesson for me. But I hope that this season we can be fighting to win the league. I think that I achieved the targets I had there because I had more minutes on the pitch, gained more experience and today I am here at Arsenal, which was the ultimate aim.”

Being versatile is one of the strings to Carlos’s bow, and whilst Wenger has already hinted he will use him as a striker, he confirmed there has been no further discussions.

“The manager hasn’t said anything to me about that yet,” he added.

“But it isn’t a problem for me as Arsene Wenger can judge for himself what position is best for me to play. It is good to have the option of playing in both positions in case of injuries or if a player is missing.

“Above anything else I just want to play in the first team, it doesn’t matter what position.”

Can’t wait. I think given the opportunities he can show his natural ability and instinct and become a great player for us. Another great young option for us and he’s got the attitude to boot.

Vela comes across as very mature and positive. Good qualities indeed. And with hleb gone and roSICKLY not ready in time for the beg of the season vela might find himself starting off on the wing in the epl (yeah i know wenger wants him as a striker but its the same as he said for theo and theos best games so far for us has been down the right.)

So, you can take the risk if you want, but as owner of this website, i do not want my readers to commit illegal activities.

I think we will sign more players Agent47, and Nasri will be a superb player for us, much more effective than Hleb.

J Sanderson. you may not wish to accept advice. However, if you do – your 9:20pm post strays into speculation of the kind that does not fit your role. Why not set up the topics with a MEASURE of opinion and let others idly speculate? You have no idea how Nasri will settle into life here, the difference in the football here and all this at only just 21 years of age. Hleb was one of the nearest things to Geoge Best I have seen with the ball at his feet. If he was n’t as effective as we would like then maybe some of that is down to others. I saw Best MANY times at Highbury by the way. By the way as ever -you are doing a fine job!!!

Wenger said at the begining of the summer before losing anyone that he will sign 2-3 players. I believe that the three he was talking bout were Nasri, Ramsey and (Vela). However now that we have lost Gilberto, Flamini and Hleb i think just the one player will come in.

Therfore i believe that Merida and maybe Randall will be first team squad members. The player that will come will be a like for like replacement for Hleb, Silva or Van der Vaart or someone in that mould.

LLoyd the Gooner, Comparing Hleb to George best is like comparing night and day. George best, managed to score almost as many goals in one match as Hleb managed in three years. You really can’t blame anyone but him for that.

Bloody good but lacked end product…

If he stays injury free, Denilson, I would argue may would have the biggest impact this season. Vela would need a bedding-in period, a bit like Eduardo needed initially.

i always impress with vela attitude. looks like 3 years loan spell has teached him to appriciate being an arsenal player. his desire is a high as anyone in this club and his attitude to do well should be an example to other upcoming young players.

Blimey blind faith or what? Vela will have minimal impatct this season. He will take time to adapt and play few games. In fact the odds are stacked against him settling in at all. He looks over rated and I think you lot should just stick to picking him for your Championship Manager games.

Vela is ahead of Walcott in experience and development. He can have a big impact, particularly as the season wears on. I agree with The Oracle, Denilson could be the key next year. I get the impression Barry is the contingency plan, depending on how ready they think Denilson is.

    Almunia out?

Nah, seriously, the kid looks like he could be great. Personally, I’m expecting a similar season to Theo had last season. Shaky at first, sub appearances, half wing half striker, until he finds his feet and shows us his ability.

Dave: Today, it is really not hard to find full Spanish football. Sky Sports show games every week, and to download and stream full games has never been easier. But even if you just youtube carlos vela, you’d still see him tearing apart sergio ramos, the best rb in the world right now. And Wenger, the best talent spotter in the game, thinks he is gonna be excellent. There is nothing wrong with getting excited about the lad.

“Me” and Dave need to get a fucking life. NOT ONCE have i seen a positive post by either of them. Wind-up merchants you may be but i like to call people like that “PRICKS”. The Spanish media are VERY VERY bitter cos he rejected their top clubs to come to Arsenal. He knew if he chose Arsenal he would need to spend time on loan there in order to qualify for an EU (Spanish) passport in order to work/play in the UK (the only place in Europe where a work-permit is needed). The fact he chose to come to Arsenal over these other clubs shows he knows whats best for him and has got his head on straight. This is the same Spanish media who deep down know Cesc is their best midfielder but cos he plies his trade in England and not his home country, they belittle him. Barca said he wouldn’t have even made the breakthrough there due to Iniesta and Xavi being better than him. Yeah right…pull the other one pricks! Last year, Vela played for a team who are crap…(only Vela, Kike Soler (i think thats how his name is spelt) and the right-sided player who is representing Spain under 19’s at the moment along with Merida (that long name which begins with an “A”, cant be bothered to look it up right now) were the only thing good about them. Vela almost single-handedly carried the team through games at times last season and if it wasnt for him they would have definitely gone down instead of the somewhat mighty Real Zaragoza. (They escaped relegation on the last day or the second from last game of the season – cant really remember now….too much weed on the membrane – its bad for you kids – dont start!). Lol. Yes, the premier league is a whole new ball game altogether but if he is one of these guys that doesn’t get fazed easily (which he seems to be) then our rivals better watch out. Very special! And it wasn’t until about halfway through last season the Barca’s and Real Madrid’s of this world REALLY realised that. Hence, the spanish press (a lot of which are run by these two clubs) started printing their bitter bullshit!!!

TJ you like to call people “pricks” a fair bit. Is this a fantasy you have? Having read your absolute dribbling drivel I can only conclude your around 14 years old and have a Vela poster on your bedroom wall. Ah how sweet.
