Coquelin Added To Arsenal Squad For Barnet Fixture

Young Guns has learnt that Arsenal have added 17 year old Frenchman Francis Coquelin to the travelling party for tomorrow’s pre-season certain raiser against Barnet.

Arsenal.com confirmed the news we told you two months ago that Coquelin has signed for the club, but it is thought the deal was only announced today to avoid confusion ahead of the 3pm kick off tomorrow.

It’s not known if he 17 year old all action defensive midfielder will feature, although his late inclusion would seem that Arsène Wenger already has his plans fixed for the game. Just travelling with the squad will offer a fantastic experience for the France Under 17 International who joined Arsenal on a free transfer.

Both sides have opted to play in the classic 1-11 shirts, with the substitutes wearing 12-25. It is not know if Coquelin’s promoting is as the result of any injuries, but we believe he has been added on his own merit.

You can read a complete Match Preview ahead of the game Here, and a Profile on Francis himself by clicking his name at the start of the article.

I have to laugh as this was mentioned some 5 hrs ago on Arsenal TV. Tom Watt mentioned that Vela would not be involved against Barnet and that Coquelin was to be included. So as well as young guns finding out about this story, lots of others did as well lol

Love this site J. its like you’re the AW of bloggers with your expertise being young players!
Interesting remarks made in an interview with AW on Arsenal channel. He made remarks about “killing young players” and that Ramsey may end up as a central mid.
Would I be silly to forsee a promotion from within for a DM? Diaby/Denilson/Song?
You could also seem very confident Birscoff (spelling) is coming. He maybe in the mix provided he has a good spell in the reserves Sept-January.
Although we can’t/don’t compete for the superstar signings its good to know we are heavyweights when it comes to signing the very best @ 17-21.

I was actually surprised that Vela was named in the squad to begin with as he only recently rejoined the team and he played WC qualifiers over the summer. We’ll just have to be patient for a little longer I suppose.

Now that rosicky is still injured untill september I think the starting line up for WBA (if no one else gets injured) will be:

    Almunia
    Sagna K. Touré Gallas Clichy
    Walcott Fabregas Denilson Nasri
    van Persie Adebayor

subs: Fabianski, Eboué, Song, Diaby, Ramsey, Vela, Bendtner

What will be Wenger’s surprise signing?!!
Seedorf, Guardado, Arda Turan, Toulalan or is it just going to be Bischoff :P

Really looking forward to this game now. Only 1 and a half hours to go, dnt rly care which players play, just cant wait too see some Arsenal lads step out onto a pitch again and do their beautiful thing. It would be nice too see some of the young lads get a run out and they always do against Barnet, id love it if some of the new players get on aswell.

Id also like to take this oppertunity to to say i FUCKING HATE CAMPING. Im covered in Mosquito bites, scabs, scin peel thanks to three layers of sun burn, and a massive ball of puss (its not that big now) attached to my lip thanks to a wasp that thought i needed to be woken up at 8 in the mornin with a nice sting smack on the lips. Ive even got a bite on the Arse and ill tell u summin for nothin, its not fun.

Remember, it’s festival season, only real reason for camping.

Just been watching youtube clips of the great barca strikers, stoichkov, messi, eto’o, romario, maradona, and that bojan looks like he is gonna be some player. I wish we produced players like Bojan and Messi. Excited as I am about Wilshere and Barazite, man do I wish we’d be able to come up with Bojans. If only le boss offered them Ade + 10m for Bojan, life would be sweet.

Samuel – Bojan is an exceptional talent but it is the only talented striker Barcelona has produced since years. Before him there was Eto’o, Kluivert, Ronaldo, Romario. Messi was bought as a massive talent who could have gone to allmost any club in the world. Johan Cruyff has set up a great youth policy at Barcelona. The focus is on technique and passing and you can see how great Barcelona players are at that. I think Wilshire and Barazite will have a good chance of becoming future stars, no less than Bojan and Messi.

Dutchmaster – I can’t see an italian player (they don’t leave they’re country often) who’s already been told that he’s going to get a chance at Juventus and likely the successor of Del Piero to join us. I would prefer Andres Guardado who looked great alongside Vela in the Mexico squad. I would love to see him at Arsenal… He’s already proven himself at the highest level becoming an instant favourite at Deportivo. Establishing himself in the Mexico squad. The only thing that’s missing is a manager who can make him in a superstar…

I know, I know that we are close to creating superstars, it’s just watching those videos you can’t not wish we had them. It’s not true about Messi though, he was bought at 9 as just a talented argentanian with growth problems. Barca made him the star.

Walcott is very similar to Messi, i know hes not close to him yet but if he keeps improving he can become a very similar player to him for Arsenal. He can even catch Messi up in terms of quality as at the moment Walcott creates problems for himself in his lack of composure and tactical awereness, something i feel he has really improved on over the last couple of months of the season and i hope we see more of that improvement next season.

Watching the pre-match talk now, rly (and probably stupidly) exited, just feels great to get those pre-match jitters again, a mixture of exitement, expectations and pessamistic forboding, its not that bad cuz its just a friendly but still, great feeling.

Thanks for ur sympathy btw Mouhsin, my whole family hates camping cept my mom who forces us (and she wears the pants in the house so what she says goes…or else).

Mav: Theo looks like he could be great but Messi eclipses ‘great’. Theo does look he will be amazing though.

I’m just saying, and we have talked about this before, that’s it’s very frustrating being at the start of the academy process. Barca have failed in the past to produce strikers but have refined the process and are now starting to churn out beyond excellent strikers. How long ago was it Cruyff revamped the academy? 20 years ago? So we are say 10, 15 years behind. Our first steps look very similar (focus on technique that made the likes of pep and our current midfield younsgters) and hopefully the learning process will start to bring top class quality in all positions as we figure out how to distribute our learning across the pitch.

Lol, i know but ive fallen in love with him already, loved watching him for the reserves and i truely believe he can be massive. I know it’ll take time thou, hes small but strong and technically extreamly gifted.

Nice to see Simpson, to be honest i didnt rate him but ive been going over old footage of the reserve side ive seen alot of what hes done and hes very, very good. Whether or not he’ll make it, i duno but ive come round to the idea of keeping him and i believe hes worth a bit of patiance. James dunne is another thats grown on me, if he works really really hard he can be a great player, lacking in many ways but on his day he really stands out.

I don’t know why so many people criticise J Hoyte, he is a very decent player and good backup for the first team. Although his chances may be limited and would probably be first team for a mid table/UEFA cup team he has stayed and fought for his place, doesn’t act like a spoilt brat and always looking to improve. He has had quite a few good games (as well as some bad ones) but if he can find some consistency he would be good. Man U last year, although he didn’t have the best of games he was often let down by the rest of the defence and the midfield in front of him

It is Justin, hes a player that has failed as far as im concerned, mentally not strong enough and never let his technical ability to really shine through. Dont think hes the reason we havent got a CB.

Bojan is good thou, very young, dont diss him, he is very likely to become one of the next generations greats.

Well the players are rusty after not playing so u can excuse them slightly. Almunia shud have maybe saved the free kick but the wall did not move even though there was two passes before the shot!!! Ramsey looks good, Lansbury not a RM, Bendtner decent, Walcott needs to increase tactical awareness (e.g. drop deep sometimes/wide, when and where to run). Denilson- probably the worst player for Arsenal that is playing in their favoured position.
