Exclusive – Arsenal's Pedro Will Go Back To Salamanca

Young Guns has obtained exclusive information regarding the future of Brazilian wing-back Pedro Botelho, from our source at Spanish outfit UD Salamanca, where the youngster spent last season on loan.

As we reported last month, there were doubts about where Pedro would play next season, after he became increasing frustrated with the lack of opportunities with Salamanca last term. Both UDS and Pedro asked for a meeting with Arsenal, which took place in the last two weeks.

An agreement was reached with both parties, which entailed that Pedro would complete the 08-09 campaign with the Union in Spain, but would then apply for a work permit to fast-track his return to London. Salamanca confirmed the sale of first choice left back Dani López shortly afterwards, meaning the 18 year old would be first choice for the coming season.

The player arrived in London on Sunday, and trained with the Reserves on Monday, before joining the first team for this morning’s session. He will remain with the squad until they fly out for the annual training camp in Austria, where he will then re-join his team mates at Salamanca.

Arsenal’s South America chief Richard Law is working as a link between both clubs, and although he has kept his cards close to his chest, UDS have been informed they will be taking another young prospect from the Gunners for the new season. Meaning Pedro and another player will be spending next season in Spain.

As regular readers will know, Law also arranged for Pedro to have regular sessions with English language professor Peter Murphy, and whilst he has attended a few of these lessons, like any typical young man, has on occasion, failed to turn up to class!.

This other player, J, is it a current Arsenal youngster or a new signing we have signed who needs work permit/ playing time.

Can you give us a name?

I would suggest it is 90% a player who will be bought in. From the impression i got from the source, he seemed confident the deal was already done for him, and would travel with Law and Pedro to pre-season.

I dont know who it is, because Richard wouldnt tell him as i mentioned, but Diogo and Patrik were named linked.

Why don’t we send out English players on loan to Salamanca? Surely the experience of a different league would do them good without hampering their development eg. Kieran Gibbs

i think that nscer barazite should be the other players as he is already to good for the reserves and a regular 1st team would improve his abilities and give him experiance

Sending them to Salamanca apposed to Norwich is pointless i think.

If they go to Norwich.. then they learn English tradition, and about English football, as when they come back to Arsenal.. they are playing in England.

If Arsenal sent them to salamanca, they learn a new culture.. but its Spanish football.. so then you have adapt them back again.

I dont think Arsenal dont really want to send the players to Salamanca, but because of laws in the country its the only thing we can do

Fair enough but football in the championship is a lot different to the premiership. The Spanish Segunda, while being relatively slower than the Premier League, is highly technical and would help players in terms of skill and ability.

If Diogo is signed, what is the possibility of him being sent on loan? I find it hard to believe that we will pay £11m and then lose him for a year.

There wound’t be much point of him comming back at the moment anyway. the only reason i could think of is if we wanted to push Traore up into midfield.

Let’s face it, Clichy is going to be in the arsenal set up for a long time.

Traore has already pushed up into midfield, thats y it’d be good to get him back, but im sure we can survive 1 season and Traore can still cover for Clichy.

I dont see why we’d send Diogo on loan, like Arse&Nose said, we’d have to pay 11mil for him and y would we play 11mil for a player and then send him out on loan, plus hes 21 (i think), not 17 or 18, so i doubt he’d want to move anywhere where he’d have to play out on loan for a season or two.

The exiting thing ia that if its not Diogo (it is possible that it might be), it’ll be some other wonderkid.

Btw, does ny1 else think its ridiculious that charlie george and pat jennings got 10th and 9th on the greatest ever 50 arsenal players? i meen…shouldent they be top 6 or summin? Cnt believe Rocky Rocastle didnt get top 10 either, he was a legend.

I think rodgers has suffered playing centre back, when ever he plays full back he seems to put in a good performance.

Ramsey already looks like a star in those picture, he doesn’t look 17 at all he looks like a detirmend and composed person… Would be great if he becomes kind of a club icon like Gerrard is for Liverpool.

The kids look great!!! Denilson, Barazite and Wilshire :D

Are there more pictures from this training?!! If anyone finds some post here please :D

Other name that has been linked to us as a South American wonderkid is that Dentento fella or however it’s spelt. Just throwing it out there.

I am exciting to see all the promoted youths training with the first team, especially if the likes of Randall and Barazite are gonna now be in that set-up instead of with the reserves. It kinda makes up for the lack of signings (even I, great defender of AW, is wishing we’d just sort it already) to know we have more great talent adapting. I don’t think I’d read too much into those pictures dictating our next year though, bar 3 players none of the first team is there, so it just seems like an exercise of shouting “wahey! we bought ramsey!”. I agree, he does look natural in those pictures, but I really don’t expect anything of him until the turn of the decade. (Although, I was thinking earlier, Cesc was being played regularly at 17, and 5m is a lot of money, the hype is big… Diaby and Bert would be pissed though.)

Because Arsenal.com dont announce reserve and U18 signings unless they pick up soem media attention (i.e. Walcott, Freeman), but usually these players just appear out of nowhere (although now ive started reading this blog i actually know where they’re coming from, which is great). The Bischoff deal isnt done yet, i duno if its guna happen (havent seen anything else about him), but if it does it’ll be announced on here and Arsenal.com (since hes technically still a U21 player, getting it announced on here, but is 21, meaning that hes old enough for Arsenal.com to grant it a mention).

Ramsey does look good and he has experiance but i wouldent be suprised if, like Walcott he’ll mainly be seeing reserve football in his first season (unlike Walcott i expect he’ll get off the bench or even a start in the CC thou, and maybe a league debut+a few other appearences, u neva know).

yeh, there are promising young prospects. What worries me the most is that once they become mature they may want to go off to other clubs that offer them more “money”. I especially fear about the foreign imports, unless they are exceptionally loyal to the club like Fabregas, Toure.
