FC Zwolle Trial Arsenal Youngster Van Den Berg

Dutch outfit FC Zwolle have announced that they have taken Arsenal forward Vincent van den Berg on trial, after he completed his four month loan spell with Go Ahead Eagles.

Vincent’s contract comes to a close during the summer, and the Gunners are believed to have indicated they are not willing to renew the terms, leaving the 19 year old free to find new employers. The Dutch under 19 international joined the club from SC Heerenveen in 2006, and although he featured in Dennis Bergkamp’s testimonial, never made a competitive appearance.

Former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars helped get Vincent the loan to his former club Go Ahead Eagles, but a series of injuries limited him to only a handful of matches. GA have confirmed the player has left the club, and Zwolle manager Jan Everse says they are keen to help him with his development.

“At FC Zwolle there is always room for talented young players,”

“We will try to help with his development. That is because we are a team that wants to play attacking football and in such an environment you can develop as a player.

“Vincent was unlucky last year, and at Arsenal you have to take your chances when you can”

van den Berg promised much on his arrival, but he failed to settle in London, and his off the field issued transmitted to his form whilst with the Gunners. Only a nominal fee was paid for his services, meaning we have lost only a small amount of money on the Dutchman.

His did not settle very well with his team mates, maybe because he was the same age as the boys he played with, but they had scholarships and he had pro terms.

Whoever started this “first” thing is a complete prat. It doesn’t make sense. Why would someone want to brag about appearing first on a comments listing if they don’t have contribution to make toward an article?

Why do people waste their time watching the clock, continually hitting the refresh button until the latest blog appears. Do people actually get any pleasure from doing this (my guess is probably they do!). Get out of the house more often, go meet some friends or hell get a girlfriend. For those of you getting all defensive, I am sorry to say, the computer cannot replace a female friend.

These people are probably anti-social individuals who have nothing better to do with their time. For those of you that then say “second” and “third” your even more stupid than the first person.

Ninth!!! – Ooh Yay I’m so happy, I’m gonna go tell everyone. Mummy and Daddy are gonna be so proud!

And people who try to get smart about the fact I haven’t made reply to the article, don’t bother. Van Den Berg was never going to play in the Arsenal shirt. He didn’t have enough talent despite what anyone says. There is a lot of talent at Arsenal and at the end of the day they have to offload a few. At least Wenger can take a few risks with these youngsters as they are so cheap. Buying Cesc alone has made this system of developing well worth it. I’m expecting big things of Vela and Walcott this season. Its really important that we solve this problem to do with wingers. Hleb for all the trickery and guile is just not Arsenal material if he can’t contribute 10 goals from his position (goals which could have secured us the title). A goal here and there against the Birmingham and Wigans would have seen the prem coming to the Emirates. Rosicky and Hleb are Central midfielders being forced to play outwide (similar situation to Eboue, who should just stick to being a defender). Hleb got 4 goals last season, Ronaldo (although exceptional) got 40. Thats where it was won. I believe we will get more goals from midfield, but we need a speed demon like Ryan Babel(If Wenger had bought him, then we would have gone through in Europe and done better in prem).

The situation regading Nasri is that we can’t afford him, because we have no money. We need to sell Hleb or Ade to generate funds. If i were Wenger, I’d buy Pavluychenko or Santa Cruz to replace Ade and Podolski to replace Hleb.

VDB always reminded me of Hleb, good on the ball, tricky passer but flawed, and at that age if u dont show some final product in your attacking play as a forward player you dont make it at the big clubs. U need to assist and score, and he did neither in great abundance. Good player thou and im sure he’ll reach a european top league someday, i doubt however it will be with a top team.

“what about the champions youth cup are arsenal in it”

I remember last year we entered it and Bould (i think) said it was a waste of time in terms of development cuz the training facilities and playing conditions were way below standard.

And how much of him do you think we’ll see next season. I’ve heard he’s a bit like a left footed Cesc with pace? Do you think Wenger will play him on the wings or only at CM?

i was just thinking to myself, just look how weak our team is compared to Utd and Chelsea. It really is embarrassing. I would only take Fabregas and possibly Sagna from Arsenal and put into Man U. That is so embarrasing aint it. Their reserves are even better than some in our first team, just look at Anderson, Nani, Carrick. I find it so embarrasing. I dont know why arsenal fans do not make a stand here. How can year on year we not spend any substantial monies on quality players. Everyone says its coz we aint got the money but im sick of it course we have money, I reckon we have about £50-£70 mil to spend. The problem is Wenger, he wont buy, he wants 2 give hopeless players such as Senderos and Bendtner a chance, honestly these 2 aint even good enough 4 wigan. We have been in the Champions League season on season. its not like we are a mid table team or stuggling 4 survival, even Spurs are improving and spending more than us but bloody wenger is pulling the wool over all the fans eyes, telling us to trust. 3 seasons now we have trusted in you not buying anyone. I dont give a toss about fans who say Wenger knows, its bollocks. He is just a stubborn, arrogant and overrated manager. He is a good coach and man manager but he is too much an idealist and I think tactically he is sometimes poor and he refuses to take into account the strengths of an opponent. Arsenal need change. And dont wanna hear fellow stupid supporters come out with crap like ‘u aint a true fan’ coz i supported the club all my life since I was 3yrs old. fact is Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world, we fans pay extornate prices 4 tickets but we dont get to see the top players our money deserves. its just so wrongl.

You may not be getting to see top players in action..but you definetly are getting to see top football from the Arsenal team.

And to put things in perspective..the players who are an embarassment actually finished just 4 points behing Man Utd..and that is after going through one of the worst ever run of draws under Arsene Wenger. Embarassment??..I don’ think so. In fact it should be Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool who should be embarassed for not finishing much much higher inspite of spending tons of cash :)

People are being rickrolled on a comments section where the only real conversation is whether it’s ok to say ‘first’ or not. Ah, the internet.

StewDog: I disagree. 1. Bendtner is going to be the best striker in the world, I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes Ade’s spot in the team… hell, before the end of the year. 2. You reckon we have money? Well then it must be true! It’s not like we are in HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of debt after just building a stadium now is it? Nah, it’s just unnecessarely (sp?) tight purse strings, not a team trying to be sensible and not end up like Leeds. Or Dortmund. Or Parma and Lazio. Or Deportivo. Or how Liverpool are gonna look in 10 years time. Nope. 3. Cliche time: spending big money doesn’t mean improving. Or do you not know of Spurs and Newcastle’s continued existence? And hah, dragging out the ol’ “and Spurs are improving!” line that I’ve heard every summer since I was five as if they will do anything is just silly. 4. In a climate when we hate our footballers for being greedy, managers who play like the fans haven’t paid to see entertainment and owners and officials are as corrupt as the Bush administration’s daily staff meeting, what the fuck is wrong with being an idealist? We play the most beautiful football on the planet and are slowly gaining the financial muscle to add to it essentials like experience and consistancy. Unfortunatly, and I can see how this upsets many, it can’t happen with the pushing of a button. Our signings by and large will still be obscure folks from across Europe and youngsters, presumably until the Highbury flats are all sorted. It’s not to piss you off, it’s pre-caution. The man’s a highly respected economist and we all know (even if it is very frustrating not being able to go all FM and buy superstars to replace Eboue and Senderos) it’s better for the future of the club we love. 5. Consider all this and the achievements seem remarkable to me. But still incredibly frustrating. I dunno, Wenger still seems like the only manager I could trust, after having gone through these many years of enforced cut-backs and scandle (cheers David Dein and co) to still have played exciting football and kept us secure. I remember many calling for the likes of Rijkaard and Mourninho when we went through the rough patch last March and while both are only used to running (and still failing at times with) financial superpowers and not a club in our tight situation. Look at the crack-up job Koeman did at Valencia who are going through a similar period. I trust the elitest.

Remember how Patrik Viera became a star player? No one knew him never had first team football… just like Bischoff. look at others Overmars Bergkamp Van Persie Hleb Henry Pires Toure Sagna… all brought in by Wenger. without Wenger no players. Why did Ramsey join Arsenal? coz of Wenger same with Henry.
Without Wenger Arsenal would be in League 1 competing with Accrington or Burnley (No offense)

@ people bitching about the finances: You obviously do not know what you are talking about. Yes, the club had, at the end of the 2006/2007 season around £74 million in cash deposits. But it also had a ton of debt. This debt however was refinanced into around £250 million of debt held in bonds rather than how it previously was held in the banks. The interest rates are low and mostly fixed somewhere around 5.5% with a few of the bonds rates floating. Additionally, Arsenal Holdings, the group that runs the club, is pulling in more than twice what we made at Highbury. Furthermore they own and develop numerous other properties, namely Highbury Square, which is valued at around £300 million. Keep in mind all of this information is over a year old. The financial report will be posted on Arsenal’s website in september. Wenger is being smart. While we have a bit of money to spend we cannot afford to go hog wild at the money. We can spend, but until the future of the club is more certain and payment of Highbury Square shows up on the books we can’t go out and throw £30 mill at the flavor of the month.

You can fine the 2006/2007 financial report here

Pumpd Overmars, Bergkamp, Hleb Sagna were all star players in their league, you can’t even compare them to Bischoff. No person at Arsenal is greater than the club, and this counts for Wenger too. He’s a great manager but he is human and he can make mistakes and misjudgements. Reyes, Flamini, playing Senderos against liverpool last season. People should be more realistic, I only see people who are over critical disregarding the great thins Wenger achieved. And on the other hand people who only see the great things he achieved and disregarding the mistakes.

I think that if we can keep our team together and Man Utd, Chelsea are going to lose their star players. We are going to be much stronger next season no matter if we buy more players or not. I expect liverpool to be much better next season cause they won’t lose many players. But Arsenal would still have the most talented and skillfull players in the league… We have a bright future guys!! very bright :D

    ttp://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_19950621/ai_n13989903ch signed him. Thank you.

wenger arrived and luckily inherited the greatest ever Arsenal defence ,one of the greatest strikers the club has ever had (Wright) plus probably one of our best ever players (Bergkamp). Wenger had a very solid foundation from which to build.
