Jay Simpson Working Hard To Realise His Dream

Arsenal striker Jay Simpson is doing everything in his power to stake his claim for a regular spot in Arsène Wenger’s side, after playing a crucial part in the Gunners 2-1 win over Barnet yesterday.

The 19 year old is an avid Arsenal supporter and although it seems Wenger does not value the Tottenham born prospect, the boss is giving him every opportunity to make a name for himself in the club of his dreams. After leading the Gunners in the FA Youth Cup in 2007, he was loaned out to League 1 side Millwall to gain important experience.

While at the Lions he was given strict instructions to be used as a right winger, leaving his previous positions which included both goalkeeper and striker. His tremendous attitude and talents meant he played a vital role in their “Houdini” act as they avoided relegation, with Jay finishing the season with a flurry of goals.

After picking up League 1 Player Of The Year plenty of club’s expressed an interest in taking the youngster on both loan and permanent deals, but Wenger would reward his progress by giving him the chance to realise a dream. Jay himself took the risk of giving up regular football, and after an excellent start to pre-season, he has firmly put his name in the hat for a regular spot in the team come the start of the year.

Simpson’s second half entrance as a striker gave Arsenal a completely new dimension, as they now possessed the pace and elegance that Walcott gave them, but now a raw power and energy which proved to much for the tired Barnet back-line, as he bullied them out of position to clip home the equaliser.

But he showed another part of him game for the winner, as he went back to his instincts as a winger by getting his head up and playing an inch perfect pass for his great friend Barazite to coolly tuck it into the corner.

Whatever happens in the future of Jay Simpson, the 19 year old is giving his all to fight for a place.

I really hope he stays, he deserves atleast a chance to crack it at Arsenal… and hes an Arsenal fan, he would absouloutly love to play for them, he would give his all at all times, theres arnt many Arsenal fans and loyal players at our club at the moment, he would cherish the opportunity to play for Arsneal.

I hope he gets a good run of games in pre-season and proves Wenger wrong. I’m sure the fans would love him if he came in and did well.

Wonderfull performance by Jay, he put both Theo and Nick to shame with his power and brain, if Arsene Wenger lets this boy go I’ll loose an awfull lot of respect for him. Simpson deserves his chance not only for fact that he’s a local lad who supporst the team but he was sent out on loan last season and came back with the league 1 player of the year award, has that ever been doe before by one of our young guns???
Jay Simpson is a cross between Kevin Campbell and Ian Wright with a touch of Henry thrown in for good measure, he a future England player no doubt about it.
Arsene Wenger give this boy a chance he’s better than the two who played in the first half yesterday!!!

Even though he might not be our most promising young player, I really feel Simpson should be given a chance this year, at least during pre-season. I don’t think you can expect a 19 year old to perform much better than he did at Millwall last season, and it does merit an opportunity to prove himself with the first team in my opinion. We need a large squad with players who are experienced enough and fysically fit enough to come in and do a decent job in case of injuries. Simpson seems to fit the bill. Wilshere looked to be as promising as first thought yesterday, and Ramsey really impressed me with his vision and passing ability. His first touch always took him away from his opponents, an ability that all great footballers seem to have. I think Paul Rodgers performed better than Nordtveit, who didn’t really look comfortable when Barnet put some pressure on our back line. Who impressed you the most, J? Great site by the way. Any update regarding Bischoff?

I would probably send him on loan to a lower premiership side like Arsenal Fan said. But he showed he has quality detirmination and he should get a proper chance, wether it is this season or next season after a loan spell.

I am so excited that we’re getting an established player and maybe even another youngster :D Wenger doesn’t have to worry about his talents, the only two who showed they’re really close to first team are Barazite and Simpson. Wilshire showed he can be a true great but we shouldn’t rush him, otherwise he will become an overhyped player… Just let him develop on his own pace. I allmost forgot Fran Merida, I im in doubt what to do with him?!! Probably another loan spell but on a higher level would make him into a Arsenal firstteamer!

What Simpson needs is another loan out but this time to a premiership club, Hull, WBM or whatever. A top championship club will also not be bad. He needs to play regularly to develop as a striker; he has the pace, the strength but still needs to improve technically.

Ramsey seems to be the boy who’ve be seeking to relieve Cesc at times to enable him to rest. I don’t think Denilson has the capability to deputise for Cesc. Denilson needs to up his game this season and perhaps fight for the other midfield slot with Diaby and the new signing.

Based on what I’ve seen so far with Ramsey, he seems to be a better player than Denilson. He’s quick, strong, superb ball control, excellent passing ability and seems already strong enough at 17 to make his mark in the premiership.

Ramsey will be playing in the EPL this season for sure.

You rarely ever come across someone like this and I have really grown to like him. He has a superb attitude, he’s physically superb and he seems like a very down to earth kinda guy, which is hard to come across.

I hope he gets a chance in the Carling Cup in September and if he proves himself and injuries talk their tole, maybe a chance in the league

Howard you base your opinion one game (Ramsey played great I admit) and the fact that Denilson hasn’t made the progression expected from him. I think it’s still too soon to tell who’s going to be the better. We need to give him time, they’re both going to be great for us! Having Cesc Fabregas playing in your position and already becoming a world class midfielder at that age isn’t favourable. It hasn’t only affected Denilson’s progress but also Merida’s who might have been introduced earlier. So patience is the key word, Denilson will get there no doubt!!

I don’t think we can really read into this performance too much. I think Simpson should get a chance in the CC or on loan to a PL club and if he does well, keep him.

Ramsey was impressive but he’s played about 2 dozen professional games in his life so Denilson and Diaby will probably be ahead of him.

Simpson is an odd case, he was superb, a class apart even, at Millwall. If he continues to impress in pre-season, he def. should be given time in the CC (right wing? theo’s old role?).

He looks like a player who could have a nice well rounded game. He’s, well not fast, but not a slouch either, strong, knows where the net is, knows a nice pass and alright technically (hell, look at who taught him :D). I’ve always thought of him who’d make Boro or Wigan look a decent side but if he continues to improve I’d have no problem him spending time on our bench trying to prove his worth.

I think with being sent to Millwall it says ‘sorry, you aren’t good enough’ but how well he played for them has shown that maybe they got it wrong. He’s overcome what’s in front of him with style and hopefully his next hurdle could be achieved in a similar fashion (usurping Eboue.)

J, did you find that link? It’s ok if you didn’t but it’d be much appreciated.

    Fabregas’ Dad

Still think Ramsey will be ahead of Denilson. You can just take my word as the season starts. His play is tailor-made for the EPl; suited better than Denilson. Sometimes its very difficult to pin down the midfield role of Denilson. Attacking? Defending? We’ll see how both of them will pan out but I see the complete round player in Ramsey than Denilson.

Arsene has already pencilled him in for a role in the coming season in the EPL. Arsene rarely makes mistakes in his judgement of players.

Hes a strong, pacey, powerful and versatile player. I always used to feel that technically and tactically he let himself down, but i think hes improved alot over his stay at Millwall and he looked good yesterday.

He always had the potential but also always looked slightly over shadowed by players such as Gibbs, Barazite, Bendtner and Lupoli. He is defnatly worth another season though in my opinion and i hope he gets a chance in the CC and proves us all right (or wrong in the case of the doubters) because, as has already been said, hes a lovly lad and really wants to give something to this club.

It would be nice to see Simpson given a chance to show what he can do in our 1st team squad this season, especially given his exploits at Millwall.

But any chance he’s given should be based on his ability, talent, and readiness for playing at that level.

The fact that he’s a local lad who supports the club is a bonus, and interesting, but shouldn’t determine his chances of doing well at Arsenal one way or another.

Mamadou sakho is a decent center back, he can also play as a left back. He played a lot the last season with PSG, he was captain for a game (vs Valencienne) which was a great surprise because he was only 17. And it wasn’t a great choice from Paul Le Guen, older players were upset by Le Guen’s decision. Then PSG had the worst season ever.

Nordtveit will make it, Randall and Lansbury could make it too. Merida definetly will and Wilshere looks like he will too.

As for Jay Simpson, I dunno, If i had to give an Answer it’d be no, Vela, Theo and Bendtner all within a year of Simpson in age and alot futher along in their abilities.

Simpson is youthful,English and looks like a great finisher. Even though he is great prospect answering the demands of the premier league is paramount but I still think that he has role to play because is can lead the line and could be an option for lone striker(like Adebayour,Bendther) with attackers around()Eduardo,Van Persie,Vela,Walcott others). No matter what give him opportunity to play. The best player was Wikshere he is English Messi and player way beyond his years, low centre of gravity, strong dribbler, lefty, great professionalism rare for 16 year old,he looks ready for the first team but should nourish him and get him some games in the carling cup.Prediction he will have breakthrough in the latter part of the season,Wenger pls nver send him out on loan, get him stronger. Aaron Ramsey he is very very smart buy by typically Arsene he will play an important role next year might come in and do the similar job to Fabregas wow.He already looks like kid who has lot of years in his beltwith great touch, vision, time on the ball looks like a legend in the making and might recapture his Welsh legend Giggs success Definity 1st team plan.

Ramsey, what a player!!!! the boy will deputise for fabregas next season. The truth is when cesc was injured we struggled to create chances. But ramsey, wiltishire and merida seem to be the perfec answer for this season.I guess this is gona put cesc under pressure and to perform better next season.

Hes not, he was against Barnet but overall Bendtner and Walcott are better than Simpson. Both outclassed him when they were all playing Reserve football, and the fact Walcott and Bendtner no longer play for the reserves where as Simpson probably will shows that Bendtner and Walcott have come farther than Simpson.

Simpson is a good player however and its possible he can make it, but not definate. He’ll be a prem player one day though, its just whether it’ll be at the top with Arsenal or another top side, or a mid-table, mid-quality club that remains to be seen.
