Unstoppable Young Gunners Help See Of VfB Challenge

Arsenal’s young starlets are starting to show up their first team counter-parts, as goals from Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner and Jack Wilshere helped see of a defensive VFB Stuttgart this evening.

With the majority of the first team players now back in full training, Wenger drafted the likes of Gallas, Nasri, Adebayor, van Persie and Eboue, and once more chopped down the squad with only a handful of youngsters on the bench.

After a lack luster first period, Adebayor and van Persie were replaced with the free-scoring Vela and Bendtner, with Wenger keen to snatch the victory. The fixture offered a huge challenge to the boys, and a challenge which got even harder after Basturk’s side footed finish.

However, Arsenal’s younger playing staff looked much fresher and better prepared than the first team, and were quickly on level terms as 19 year old Carlos Vela made it four in two games as he danced past Lehmann and smashed home via the cross bar.

Aaron Ramsey, Justin Hoyte, Gavin Hoyte and Jack Wilshere all came on, and were soon celebrating as Bendtner played a 1-2 with Vela before bullying his way through, and slotting home. 2-1, and Arsenal were looking in fine form.

Earlier today we were keen to take away any expectation or pressure on Jack Wilshere, but with every game he makes it more difficult. He would grab the third and deceive strike, as he controlled Walcott’s cross and saw his left footed volley squirm through Lehmann.

The Gunners were now comfortable in possession, and Wenger made two late changes. Jay Simpson replaced fellow substitute Vela, and Mark Randall came on for Denilson.

It finished 3-1, a solid and complete performance, proving once more – If you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

    Good game all around..

Was it just me, or have we found a place for Eboue…right in the center of the pitch behind Cesc….he looks like he could thrive there…anyone agree?

Nasri was good to watch…give him some more time to settle in…but very positive start for him.

    Vela and Bendtner….very very good.

    Theo…solid performance….

Only watched 2nd half, and that was maybe a good thing :P Great performance from the youngsters! Bendtner was astonishing, Clichy worked his ass always determined to get everything out of every situation and Vela was a joy to watch!

Great to see Wilshere get that goal, that guy just won’t stop achieving. Wenger has a big dilemma if he keeps it up like this! I say we should let him turn 17 at least.

But remember, Rooney was about the same age when he started his first team action.

alot of pluses from this games but i was very impressed with wilshire ramsey vela and bendtner! Bendtner looks revitalized and like a different player! For his goal he bullied Boulharouz a seasoned defender! Wilshire looked confident and was eager to glide past players and play the early through ball and is a ready made arsenal player! Ramsey looks like in a few seasons he could be the player to do the running and allow cesc to put more emphasis on his creative side, although ramsey himself is assured and composed on the ball and has a brilliant eye for a pass himslef. Vela just looks class, great skill and really hard work, and it was great to see him smiling and joking when substituted! Bright Future ahead boys

Sorry pm, i thought Djourou was poor, and we still can’t defend balls over the top, if i was Wenger i would be thinking if Gallas or Toure gets injured, would he really feel confident going to places like Anfield, Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford with Sendoros and Djourou as his centre backs?

If the question is no, then we must strengthen.

Im actually getting less concerned with Centre mid, Denilson and Ramsey dont give the ball away easily and both resemble more of the michael carrick style of DCM, then say Gattuso or Yaya Toure, or Flamini types, not so much Crunching tacklers but more the closing down and simply pass type.

I have seen Diaby run games against Bolton and Blackburn and Sheffield Utd in the Carling cup, so hes definately an option.

Overall i think if we JUST GOT A CENTRE BACK, i could sleep happy, but if not thats the only area of the team im really concerned about, just the thought of seeing senderos against Torres or Drogba again sends shivers down my spine :(

Great game by the boys! Awesome performance! Jack Wilshere just keeps enhancing his reputation. I think Wenger will keep him with the first team set up but will play him in the carling cup, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him making his league debut towards the end of the season next year. I was impressed by Nasri, he showed good pace and cross delivery, excited to see him link up with Cesc. Bendtner and Vela were superb upfront. I have a feeling Nicky is going to have big season. After Ade’s antics during the summer, Bendtner could stake a claim to play along side RVP. Ramsey looked good, very composed, as did Denilson but i felt he gave the ball away too often. Walcott looked good but you can tell he shouldn’t be on the wing. I really think Wenger needs to buy a centre-back, Senderos and Djourou, Djourou particulary, aren’t good enough cover. Senderos plays well with Toure but not with Gallas. This my starting line up for the start of the season, before certain injured players return (ie. Rosicky, Eduardo etc): Almunia, Sagna, Clichy, Toure, Gallas, Nasri (LW), Walcott (RW), Fabregas, Diaby, Van Persie and Adebayor. SUBS: Fabianski, Denilson, Ramsey, Senderos, Bendtner, Vela, Eboue/Bischoff. PS: Jay, I know we just signed Amaury Bischoff, but you think Arsene will sign anybody else? If so, what position?

Ok guys before we get carried away, i feel we should also look at the NEGATIVES.

Again we conceded first, as usual and had to come back to win the game, and that has been the case in all are games bar Burgesland or whatever they were called.

All last season it happened and it come back to the point that i feel we start games too relaxed and dont really up our tempo till we concede.

The Arsenal team of the Pires, Henry, Bergkamp, Sol Campbell era, were great at scoring early within the first half and easing the pressure early so that teams then came out and they exploited the space.

The Arsenal team of this era in my view doesnt seem to start games with the same intensity and often get caught out via corners set pieces or long balls over the top.

It comes down to this, Offensively we have always been good, but defensively there are glaring problems, which everyone sees, even Arsene for once, yet we seem to just except it.

If we got a quality centre back im sure we could compete better both in the Prem and in Europe, if we dont the same will happen next season.

    GUARANTEED!

Oh yeah, Walcott watch your back WILSHERE is coming lol :)

Brilliant match overall and very good performance by most in my opinion, especially Bendtner and Vela. My only criticism would be that I don’t understand how it is constructive to continually play J. Hoyte in central defense. If Senderos is going to be third choice center half why not give him a run out and have Hoyte spell Sagna at his natural position? If we don’t upgrade the center half position I fear what might become if either Gallas or Toure suffer a prolonged injury during the season

he made a great run in the box, then got the ball of a bounce from his knee, then taped it to his right with his left foot, so he could go around the keeper, then turned around and smashed it into goal!!!

Wilshere is very good, and technically is better than his age would suggest, but how would he cope against players like Evra and Ashley Cole Physically, thats the only problem i see for him right now, i still think though from what i have seen he contributes more to the team than Walcott does, but that just my opinion.

How can this 16 year old kid have more goals than you in Pre- Season Walcott, it just beggars belief, man we give walcott an easy ride.

To be honest it’s quite hard to comment on this game as it was the first game for many of the first team who did look a bit rusty. Credit where credit’s due though, and I have to say that bendtner and vela are linking up very well up front. And Wilshire will definately get a few subs appearances this year. He still shows a bit of naivity in some of his flicks but that will be ironed out after time.

I do have the same fears when it comes to CB though. We just don’t have the same strength in depth as the other top 4 teams. And where was diaby?

Bendtner’s assist for the first was sublime as well as the second goal. Clcihy battling it out as usual. Walcott made some threatening runs and Nasri and Denilson were very comfortable on the ball. Djourou also played well.

Good game tonight, first half not as good as the second, although I was impressed by Nasri, he looks like a star in the making, RVP looked good, let’s hope he’s now going to remain injury free, Sagna and Clichy, how these guys don’t feature for France is freaky.
Here’s another freaky one, Eboue played ok in centre midfield!!!, Wallcot has wised up and looks a very good player now.
Second half was just fantastic, Vela and Bentner have an understanding which looks to be better than Adebayor and RVP, Wiltshie once again shows the promise to come, i just hope that Arsene is able to keep him under wraps for another year so that he can develope, it would have been good to see Nasri on the pitch with Vella and the other boys, did I menion that Denilson looked like a dam good player and Ramsey has a lot of talent which he knows how to use?
Now that the naysayers have seen the vision of Arsene’s Arsenal maybe they will now just keep quite and have a little faith!

We have another “killer” now in Carlos Vela. We missed Eduardo in the business end of last season. Vela is a different player though. I think he might just outshine Nasri and Ramsey this season. I was impressed with his tight finish on his weaker foot. Van Persie and Adebayor better watch out for him and Bendtner

MOTM Gael Clichy he seemed to lift the tempo of the team all on his own

This game proved that Arsenal is desperately in need of a good defensive midfielder. Eboue in the middle? Seems like desperate measure to me.

Anyway, the first half wasn’t really worth watching. Most likely it’s because some players are either lack in fitness or being cautious of any potential injury that they might’ve picked up in particular.

Djourou wasn’t THAT composed in the first half and that was expected as he was out and didn’t play for such a long time. RvP was very protective of himself while Adebayor kept doing the same old thing, which might lead to another pretty high offside record season. :D

The central midfield pairing was tremendously disappointing even though it’s unfair to say that Eboue did most of the things right. We surely need somebody who can make necessary defensive runs to help out the defense. It seemed very exposed in front of the defense when Stuttgart attacked.

Second half saw a better match. As usual for pre-season till now, we just have to concede. Stuttgart’s goal seemed to have galvanised the team in some way.

The introduction of Bendtner and Vela did play an important role though. The first goal was made by Bendtner even though Vela still have lots to do to beat our former number one. To return the favour, Vela made a good return pass for a surging Bendtner who fend off a sticky challenge by Boulahrouz to beat Lehmann.

From these 2 goals, I though the Bendtner-Vela partnership might work well for Arsenal as those two seemed to have a good understanding of each other’s game. Weird but true. If that happens, RvP might have to fear for his career as I see Eduardo as a more suitable partner for Adebayor.

Wilshere’s goal killed off the game, thanks to Clichy’s perseverance to keep the ball. Wilshere was a bit off in this game as he faced more experienced players but this was expected. Personally I feel that Wilshere will probably need one/two more seasons to fully develop but his talents are unbelievably good! I shouted when he scored to be honest. :)

All in all, a great game to watch. The goals are quality goals and there’s nothing more I can expect. The final jigsaw puzzle will always be that defensive player we need. Either a defensive midfielder and/or a powerful centreback that everyone wants.

Walcott is trying his best, unfortunately right now his best isnt better than Wilsheres who is a 16 year old kid, and lets not front, at Walcotts age, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney were banging in goals for fun, he started up front against Barnet and had one attempt on Goal, One against freaking barnet, yet he swears the shirt of a legend.

For the longest time i have hoped Walcott would show the potential we hope he has, but can anyone really tell me right now that at Walcott’s stage in his development they didnt think he would be a little bit better than he is right now?

Hand on heart, Vela has showed he has better potential up front that Walcott and at 16 Wilshere, has shown he has more poential on the right wing than Walcott.

Honestly if i was Arsene i would send Walcott out on Loan to someone like Villa, Bolton, Or Blacburn, even Sunderland, let him play week in week out, if he scores more than 15 goals, next season he can come back, if not well, i’ll let you decide :)

Bendtner and Vela impressive. Pre-season or not, I will take Vela scoring 4 in 2 and Bendtner 5 in 2 regardless. Nasri has some great close-body control and looked lively. Seeing some criticism of Walcott, completely absurd as he got into their area and made darting runs more than any of our players tonight. He’s looking good for pre-season and generally looks like he could well prove to be the cutting edge we have longed for during past seasons. I’m not one to judge during pre-season as its generally all about fitness but c’mon, I’m a somewhat critical Arsenal fan and I turned off Arsenal TV with a smile on my face. Saying Walcott is not ready is a foolish statement as we’ve seen him demolish AC Milan veterans and Liverpool’s finest on the European stage. i’m backing him all the way and every Gooner should.

I hope i am wrong about Theo, but goals and assists are a big part of football, and other than a memorable run against Liverpool in the Champions League, 2 goals at Birmingham, and an Assist against Milan at the San Siro, tell me what is special about him,

Let me just say this, the kid had a great run against Liverpool, cool, yet Messi did the same thing for Barca in La Liga, difference is, you can point to at least 5 – 6 things that Messi can do in a game that will create a chance or an attempt on goal

THEO GOES MISSING IN WAY TOO MANY GAMES

Its unfair to compare him to Messi, how about Ahsley Young, no Ashleys better, what about agbonlahor, no hes better, maybe Rooney no hes better, wow, Wilshere, jurys out as far as im concerned, hes better than Eboue but that aint hard seeing as Eboues a right back, ermmm im running out of comparisons, either way he falls short on all counts im afraid.

By the way this is just my opinion, everyone’s entitled to one.

And… so fucking what we beat a mediocre german team in a meaningless friendly.

    You thick cunt

theo will never be aworld class player..he,ll be just a good prem player…wilshere really looks the real deal…his only weakness is weakness but lets be honest fabs not exactly strong and hes a centre mid, wilshere is basically a more promising version of joe cole..please dont do a bentley!!!…vela is really looking good and i agree that eduardo is the best finisher we have then rvp then vela…but for me i seriously would put sagna and clichy in the world class bracket i have NEVER seen them have a bad game…any1 remeber 1(im thinking possibly sagna when he done a samson and lost the wig for the sunderland game) but clichy?–domenech shud get sacked just 4 not taking him! amazing

Yet Eboue gets slated for doing exactly the same thing, but the reason Arsene plays Walcott in so many positions is because he tryna find one he excels in and so far its neither so Arsene persists with him until the boy learns, but school is nearly over for him because Vela and Wilshere influence games Walcott doesnt.

    MIKES;

So NOW goals and assists are important for a right winger?

Yet when its dear old Eboue playing there, its all about the defending!

    hahahaha!

    Gr8 arguement.

Do i have to tell you how it is again?

Theo took a while to get to grips with the right wing role and he did, when he was given a proper run in the team.

But you write him off, like the laxy hacks. Thats your perogative.

Eboue was our 1st choice rm from almost the start of the season, well, when Rosicly got injured and Hleb moved positions.

He gave us precisely one assist and NO goals. Theo played a lot less and was a lot more productive.

he is young and will develop.

    But, fuck this shit.

And stop this real fans talk…….. real fans are entitled to opinions and want the best for the team, and that doesnt mean having blind faith , but at times offering constructive criticism.

If people can slate Senderos Djourou and Eboue, then why cant they have an opinion on Walcott who cost more than all 3 of them put together?

Yes, this is the one that we can make scrutiny of. Beating Stuttgart is not easy at all, and definitely not coming from behind to score 3. It WAS a friendly, but it meant more to the German side who were renaming their stadium. But one thing, Bendtner should start. Nasri looks good, and for Vela, WOW, just wow.Wislhire = promotion. Again, I know it’s just preseason.

Walcott proved his talent in big games last season(Liverpool and Milan). He HAS improved and is improving. I noticed tonight that he loses the ball much much less than he used to do before. He is good at taking chances first time but still struggling when he has to take a touch and then finish but he will improve

Why you always feel the need to address me, JESUS!!

Anyway who’s hyping, is this boy a clown or what, your hyping Walcott for what, because you love him or something?, and unless your ignorant, you would realise that Vela was on loan last season in a poor Osasuna side and was arguably their best player, watch a la liga game before you cast judgement on people, and even if it was based on pre season, how do you think Flamini got in the side last season, by impressing in pre-season, so how do you think Arsene forms opinions on players before a season starts huh?

Stop for a minute, engage your brain and think about it before you answer that.

MIKES, you and some others fail du understand that young players mature at different ages. First of all, Ashley Young is four (yes, 4) years older than Theo, and last season was his first as a “great” player by premiership standards (judging by assists and goals). True, Theo hasn’t performed as well as the hype around him would suggest, but the kid is only 19 years old, and only a handful of players (like Rooney, Messi and Fabregas) were performing consistently at a high level at such a young age. Towards the end of last season, though, when Theo became free of niggling injuries, he started to prove his worth and showed glimpses of his potential (Birmingham away, Liverpool away and Milan away like you mentioned). But don’t forget that he has scored in a cup final too (Carling Cup against Chelsea), something Thierry Henry never managed to do.

Theo can be a great player for us this season, and I would personally rate him as our first choice right midfielder. I don’t think he is ready to play up front, but eventually he might be.

One thing is certain: he shouldn’t be written off by us fans! He and all other players in the squad need our support in order to fulfill his potential.

Calling Rosicky a pussy is just wrong. How is injuryprone = pussy? And before his injuries this season he was rarely injured. He’s a good fighter on the pitch too, never backing off from any duels.

I only got to see the first half and Nasri looked really impressive. Djourou looked alright too imo. And it’s great to see Vela and Bendtner combine well together cause I think them and the impressive Wilshere will be Carling Cup stars this season. I can’t wait til the season starts. Nasri and Fabregas will be brilliant together. Finally it must be said Walcott is making some huge strides in my opinion. Looking stronger and coming into his own.

wenger please drop adebayor hes rubbish i think hes the most over rated arsenal player ever plus i don’t think him and van persie will work i would love to see van persie and Carlos vela as a paring i think that would be interesting or even walcott. As good as Theo looked on the wing today i still see walcott as a striker playing that Henry way . Trust me he hasn’t got that number 14 shirt for no reason

James, I don’t think Theo is ready to play an Henry role, neither physically, mentally or technically. He might, though, in the future. For now, he should be regardet as a right winger in my opinion

Last season when walcott scored his first premier league goals against birmingham everyone loved him for that. When walcott did that spectacular run against Liverpool i know some arsenal fans where sucking bumb. Now it gets to pre-season where everybody is a bit rusty and trying to fins their feet, people want to slag him off. How can you call yourself a gooner if you dont support walcott. Walcott will shine and then the fans slagging him off will be loving him again.

Adebayor is a waste of space. Always offside, always miscontrolling.
And he’s as loyal to Arsenal as Ashley cole.
Wenger should start with RVP and Bendtner or Vela.
SELL ADEBAYOR. One season wonder who will fail from now on.

it looks like we’re great in attacking,, but poor in defensive.. somehow, i think that we just have 2 trustful CB, Gallas and Toure.. cause everytime their backup is playing with one of them (Gallas or Toure), it seems like they have no connection…

i hope (just hope), AW can bring experienced defender to backup Gallas and Toure..

btw, nice game our youngster did

i am a season ticket holder! and have been since 1992! we’re the east stand highbury! the consensus of arsenal fans at the moment is that theo is an exciting prospect still…but thats what he has remained, an exciting prospect, since he signend in january 06. He has progressed and he does look like he is improving, and this isnt based on friendlys, but he still look like he has some way to go before he can really be a match winner consistently.
People are allowed to have opinions and i for one am not writing theo off! He just needs to be a bit cleverer when utilizing his pace and his passing game! His finishing really does look top class. I do feel that another season without significant progress in terms of games, performances and goals and wilshire will be knocking hard on a door that theo should have closed and made the position is own. This season has theos name written all over it and i am a big fan of his, i just hope his mentality adapts and he toughens up to criticisn and opponents pressure! The openings there for him i believe, he just has to step up to the plate! Time is what they all need, dont write them off or claim there the next TH14 before they can buy alcohol or drive!!!!

I think people need to get off Walcott’s back. The guy has improved a lot in my opinion and his record off the back of the run at Anfield has been highly impressive. From my observations of him in pre-season he has improved his link play and is becoming more involved in matches. My feeling is Walcott will surprise a lot of people this season and hit a purple patch of goals. Another point that isn’t mentioned much is how effective he can be on the left side of midfield where he can cut in and curl the ball in the far corner Henry style. He demonstrated this against Derby last season and scored a wonder goal against Germany under 21’s there as well. I think he could be worth a go there!

Another point worth mentioning is it’s clear to me that Arsene won’t sign anyone else this season unless Adebayor leaves. Bischoff was the signing he was referring to in the interview after the Szombathelyi game. Personally I would love to see a centre back brought in but if not then I trust Arsene and I think the signing of Nasri, Vela, Ramsey, Bishcoff and Coaqulin are all brilliant despite there age. In 5 years time we are talking about potential world class players here and they already look class.

hmm wilshire looks wicked in pre season but i like i think it was “carrot and stick” method seems good idea i think it ruins a player if they bigheaded…however im starting to feel RVP is perhaps not needed he is a good player look at emirates cup last year…he hasnt really scored and ok i didnt see stuttgart game but last few ive seen he didnt really threaten the goal…vela and bendtner = good partners

I thought Walcott had a blinder today! His runs were spot on, with and off the ball. Best performance I’ve seen from him in ages. He looks first team now, whether it’s left or right wing.

Wilshire took his goal well but lost the ball every other time he got it. Also didn’t cover properly when needed. He’s a super talent but has a lot to learn about tactics and needs to figure out some different moves – looks a bit of a one trick pony with his straight ball cutting in from the right to the diagonal run from a striker. But the potential is definitely there.

Biggest problem for me is Gael Clichy. Great commitment, great attitude, good going forward, but in defence he’s hopeless. Either he’s out of position or getting done by wingers or even full backs. Even Boulharouz did him, as Glen Johnson did last year for Pompey. Serious problem. Every opposition attack comes down our left and most goals too.
