Youngsters To Get A Chance Against Szombathelyi

Arsenal flew into Hungary yesterday afternoon ahead of tonight’s fixture against Szombathelyi Haladás, and whilst the main focus ahead of the game was around various first team players, Arsène Wenger has stuck to his guns by taking several of the Reserves squad.

The Gunners will be spending the next two days in Hungary before taking the short flight to the traditional training camp in Austria, with a game already lined up in the form of an Burgenland XI. Many of the first team players have returned from their summer breaks, but as promised after the 2-1 win over Barnet, some of the younger stars are set to feature predominately.

Reserve captains Jay Simpson and Håvard Nordtveit are with the travelling party, and will be boosted in the form of Mark Randall and Armand Traoré, who have both been on this trip in each of the last two campaigns. There is also speculation Jack Wilshere and Gavin Hoyte have also been included, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Vito Mannone and Carlos Vela could both feature after being promoted to the first team, in a game which Wenger did not see as particularly important, and stressed the friendly against Stuttgart is a more “serious” encounter for his squad.

“The plan there is to up the quantity of work and to get some good games. (In Hungary and Austria)”

“We have two kinds of practice games then we have a more serious game on Wednesday, the 30th of July, against Stuttgart, then we will prepare for the Emirates Cup, and I believe we will have a little vision of the team at the Emirates Cup against Juventus and Real Madrid”

Record signing Samir Nasri could be unleashed on the Hungarian Champions, and while Szombathelyi admit they are expecting a strong Arsenal side, the boss is set to inter-change the team throughout the fixture.

Kick off at 6.30pm (CET) and 5.30pm UK time. ArsenalTV are exclusively broadcasting the game both online and on the club’s official TV channel. Should a selection of the youth players feature, we will bring you a full report on how they got on immediately after full time.

All the players will about 5 games each for pre season, so with Randall missing today, he probably would be involved against Stuggart

Denilson hit the bar… bendtner let the ball go under his leg a few times… walcott should have scored.

Does anyone else think theo is terrible?

I know we’re not meant to say that and everyone should believe in him etc etc etc.

Is there a chance that he’s actually not very good?

Even Wilshire looks better and more confident than him.

He still looks like a little kid after 2 1/2 years at the club

1-0 down… I’m not sure if that went over the line but I think this will give arsenal a wakeup call, which propably improves the game.

    good goal by theo

can we read anything in gael being given the captaincy ahead of almunia? is he being weghed up as a potential captain in seasons to come. he seems very settled at arsenal so could potentially be playing for another 10 seasons here. his as vice captain behind cesc?

eh, Hoyte and Hoyte really isnt working. I know its just a friendly and its more about gaining fitness and match sharpness than the result but Gavin Hoyte really isnt doing well at the moment, Sagna is basically playing right back and centre back, Justin is doing slightly betta but not much.

Denilson and Ramsey have both been avarage, Wilshire has done good but physically i feel hes struggling a bit. Bendtner and Vela are getting better and better as it goes on… but lets face it, they could have got worse, rubbish at the beggining. Nice to see Walcott put 1 away but he should have had 2.

I said it on gunnerblog but i’ll repeat it here: Barry or not, I really hope Hoyte becomes a Villa player soon. He is and always has been a terrible liability.

Beautiful goal all thanks to Bendtner’s terrific control and pass.

I’m at work so I can’t really watch the game and only thing I know is that we’re drawing 1-1. Which players have been the most impressive in the game so far?

wilshire was good while he was on, Coquelin has been impressive since he came on his tackling and closing down is impressive, walcotts goal was very good from both bendtner and walcott but other than that no1 has really stood out

Francis Coquelin has been very good since coming on. Definitely a contender for Flamini’s position. Jack Wilshere impressed again but all the other fringe/reserve players has been off the pace, which can be understood.
