Youngsters To Get A Chance Against Szombathelyi

Arsenal flew into Hungary yesterday afternoon ahead of tonight’s fixture against Szombathelyi Haladás, and whilst the main focus ahead of the game was around various first team players, Arsène Wenger has stuck to his guns by taking several of the Reserves squad.

The Gunners will be spending the next two days in Hungary before taking the short flight to the traditional training camp in Austria, with a game already lined up in the form of an Burgenland XI. Many of the first team players have returned from their summer breaks, but as promised after the 2-1 win over Barnet, some of the younger stars are set to feature predominately.

Reserve captains Jay Simpson and Håvard Nordtveit are with the travelling party, and will be boosted in the form of Mark Randall and Armand Traoré, who have both been on this trip in each of the last two campaigns. There is also speculation Jack Wilshere and Gavin Hoyte have also been included, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Vito Mannone and Carlos Vela could both feature after being promoted to the first team, in a game which Wenger did not see as particularly important, and stressed the friendly against Stuttgart is a more “serious” encounter for his squad.

“The plan there is to up the quantity of work and to get some good games. (In Hungary and Austria)”

“We have two kinds of practice games then we have a more serious game on Wednesday, the 30th of July, against Stuttgart, then we will prepare for the Emirates Cup, and I believe we will have a little vision of the team at the Emirates Cup against Juventus and Real Madrid”

Record signing Samir Nasri could be unleashed on the Hungarian Champions, and while Szombathelyi admit they are expecting a strong Arsenal side, the boss is set to inter-change the team throughout the fixture.

Kick off at 6.30pm (CET) and 5.30pm UK time. ArsenalTV are exclusively broadcasting the game both online and on the club’s official TV channel. Should a selection of the youth players feature, we will bring you a full report on how they got on immediately after full time.

Whilst we have the likes of Wilshere, Barazite & Randall coming through. We dont seem to have anyone capable at the back or in goal. I cant believe that Mannone is promoted to the first team. Fabianski looks suspect too. It will be interesting to see who Wenger chose to take to Hungary and then Austria from the youth players. He talked about one or two being really close. My guess is Randall and Barazite

i think gavin hoyte and nordveit are good young prospects at back, as people do say nordveit is the only good one from the reserves, but i think gavin hoyte can go far aswell. hes tall strong in tackles and a good header, just needs to bulk up a bit more and we could see another class defennderv at arsenal this time english!!!!!

Arsenals Best formation with RVP is 4-4-2, without RVP you could make a case for 4-5-1. I doubt fab will be play there especially when we have plays like rvp, Nasri, Rosicky who already play that position. But saying that I could imagine just ahead of a central midfield pairing of Diaby and Denilson

Why are we giving wilshire all these games to shine when he has not signed a professional contract. I have been told that he can not sign untill xmas due to his age. Are we leaving our selves open to other clubs trying to tap him up. I think we should keep him under wraps until he signs. I might be paronoid but if I was chelsea of manu I would be tapping him up with a large sum of cash. What do you think?

Thats just a selective picture posted on the arsenal website, it doesnt mean all the players r not present. Also you statement also shows how mentally weak certain english players with moaning about competitions, life isnt meant to easy.

I watched on Ars TV Online, an interview with former arsenal player about his days @ hale end in the 80s, he said in order for him to be considered for the 1st team, he had to made sure that his niche skills was maintained in addition to adding strenghs of other youth players to his game thus he will be ahead of everyone. Thats how make it not by crying & being inferior skill wise

Thr main ingrediant these young players need to be able to make it in the first team is “can they take a kick”. Because we all know for sure that the opposition we kick us as they cannot beat us on a technical level. I think wenger will be thinking the same when he looks at players like wilshire. We don’t want him to go all reyers/helb on us when he gets kicked. It’s sad but even the commentators get excited when we get kicked, they accept it as part of the game-especially Andy Grey the biggest tosser on TV.

I unfortunatly agree on this. It’s such a shame that this has become the yardstick of professional football. Even with the huge discussions on the redevelopment of youth football in this country have we seen people like Brooking come out and say that the emphasis on strength and roughness should be taking down a few notches, just that technique should also be a part of development.

There is a difference between Fabregas and Wilshere, a pretty big one:

Fabregas would never have been guaranteed a real opportunity at the first team at Barcalona. A lot has been said about the group that bought Messi, Fabregas, Pique and Dos Santos to the game but in reality, three of them left because Barcalona wouldn’t give them the opportunity they deserved. And it was a team Cesc left because he was ‘sick of winning 10-0 every time’ so it was obvious they had the talent, it’s just that everyone given a number at Barca is scrutinised so much that introducing almost every player can be a deadly idea. Messi and Bojan made it but the likes of Pique had to leave for obvious reasons: flair players can have a bad day and it’s ok but if Pique was to start at 18 instead of an injured first teamer and have Villa or Guiza or Van Nistelrooy skin him, that would be the end of his Barca career.

At Arsenal, we have a very significant stepping stone that Barca don’t have: The Carling Cup. Players can play professional games against the best in the country to little significance. If they have a bad game, it’s ok, they are young and still developing. If they have a great game, they can maybe sit on the bench in bigger games or get a high profile loan. It’s a great barometer to judge whether players are ready for first team football, gonna be good enough to eventually have first team football or just not good enough without the pressure they would have in league or European games. This, ultimately, is where Wilshere can bridge the gap that Fabregas wasn’t allowed.

I think that AW shud buy Albiol, he’s young and totally outclasses Senderos! we still need a CDM also, i think that Zapata would be a welcomed addition to our squad and we could either push him up in front of the defence or Toure? Has any ov u herd that Eduardo is still along way from fitness, i read it 2day n if the news is tru then we need another striker. AW admitted that he will bring in 1 player at least, but its not enough!!! we need more depth because we are alredy 2 players short before the season starts cuz ov the injuries to Eduardo n Rosicky. i dnt think we will get Barry, Veluso or Arshavin. Does any1 think that AW shud giv Jay Simpson a chance? I know it was only Barnsley but i stil fort he was impressive, and he did wat Bendtner cudnt…SCORE! i think he could be a more powerful Walcott? maybe Theo’s abit quicker but Simmoz definatly got the power….GUNNA4LIFE…oh n AW please dont bring in dat Bischoff guy n expect that to be enuf! we need more depth than one player who has hardly played a 1st team game can offer.
