'Arsenal Gave Rushden A Passing Lesson' + Match Photo's

Arsenal’s young playing staff returned to London yesterday evening with glowing praise from the opposition faithful, after Steve Bould’s XI gunned down Non-League Rushden & Diamonds in their second pre-season fixture.

A header from Rui Fonte and a coolly taken finish from Nacer Barazite (pictured) was enough to wrap up the win, but Rushden’s fans were more than keen to send praise the way of our young starlets.

“Arsenal gave us a lesson in passing yesterday which we could not match. However, playing such high calibre opposition resulting in us having to raise our game should enable us to start the new season well.”

“Whilst we couldn’t match them technically, we certainly seemed to have fire in our bellies.”

The game was tainted by a shocking injury to striker Daryl Clare, with the much travelled hitman leaving the field with a broken jaw – following a collision with an Arsenal player. He is expected to have surgery this evening, and miss around eight weeks.

Despite the incident, Steve Bould will feel his side are certainly progressing well ahead of the coming season, with several impressive performances from the elder statesmen in his side. Paul Rodgers proved to be a fantastic leader at the back, and looked much more comfortable playing in the centre. Rene Steer and James Dunne also looked bright, and with Emmanuel Frimpong and Sanchez Watt now firmly looking to push their way into the side, another exciting Reserves season is in prospect.

Clare was after the ball and Szczesny got their first, before smashing into him

yeah, Adebayor is signing a new contract. He said he doesn’t know where the speculation about him leaving came from(yeah right)so he is glad to make his intentions clear. Whats clear is that Adebayor did what all footballers do in that he made his agents do all the posturing and in the end got the raise he was looking for. The only difference is unlike most footballers he came out twice on the club’s website to deny his possible transfer ambitions. Typical footballer if you ask me, glad he is staying.

“I know what I have at Arsenal and I don’t know what I will have somewhere else. Sometimes of course players think about money but it is not the only thing to think about. At 23 I think you have many years in front of you to get money. The objective for me is not to get the big cash, it is to prove you can play at a high level for many years and the rest will come.”

Seedorf – I had my six month maker only two weeks ago, as for the incident, i only managed to catch the second half, somebody mentioned it was Szczesny, not sure on that.

I would expect it will be a youth XI again.

Nice to see the young lads beating some professional outfits. Really encouraging. Plus its nice to see Fonte get a goal, hopefully next season he’ll start to get some form and really show what hes about. Barazite is unstoppable atm, always scores. I have high hopes for him now, hes so young aswell if you think about it, definatly playing like a player above his age group.
