Arsenal are holding negotiations with Real Madrid for their 20 year old goal-keeper Felipe Ramos Sanchez, and remain confident of landing the Spain Under 19 International according to Spanish sports daily ‘AS’.
The paper – which focuses on the dealings of the La Liga Champions Madrid – claims the Gunners have been given permission to speak with the Castilla stopper, who featured on 23 occasions for Real’s Reserves & Youth sides last season.
It’s reported that Arsenal have had meetings with Ramos and his representatives on two occasions, with our Spanish scout Francis Cagigao helping over see the transfer. Last year it was revealed that Cagigao was searching for a young Spaniard to work with Manuel Almunia, and whilst several targets were mentioned, nothing solid ever came from the speculation.
Ramos is extremely highly rated and has represented his county at all youth levels, with the biggest moment of his international career coming as he appeared for the Under 19’s last year.
For Real he has been limited in his first team opportunity’s, but Bernd Schuster included him with the travelling party for the pre-season training camp in Austria, the same country which coincidentally Arsenal used for their preparations for the new campaign.
However, with Iker Casillas now back in training, Ramos has found himself frozen out once more and looks set to depart the Santiago Bernabéu before the close of the transfer window.

What would this mean for Vito Mannone or the young Polish goalkeeper?
Szczesny’s position would not change as he will become Reserves Number 1 anyway.
As for Mannone, maybe he would be loaned out or sold.
Bit on the short side for a goalkeeper isn’t he?
Mannone is awful, I couldn’t care less if he was loaned out or sold. Hope this guy is better than Fabianski, ’cause for a full international, he isn’t all that good either.
I’d take this guy though, any new signing excites me.
yeah mannone has been pretty crap
Not sure where he would fit in. We have Lukasz as No2 to Almunia and Szczesny as teh No1 Reserves keeper. What would interest Ramos in playing second fiddle to Szczesny when he appears to be the third choice gk in RM?
well, another spaniard would come..
i dont know what AW thinks about it, but we already have 2 great goalie behind Manuel; Vito and Lukasz. if this negotiation is confirmed, it means that we have a big battle on the 3rd seat between Vito and him..
and one thing i really hate to heard..
doesnt it heard like David Bastard-Ley when he was in Arsenal ?? another impatient youngster that we chase…
Mannone should go but I rate Fabi very highly. what would that do to the competition for the GK spot in a year or two? both Fabi and Ramos would feel they should get it. I dont think a new GK is a high priority at all, and Ramos wont get any more games at Arsenal than he gets at Real currently.
I heard that mannone was a bit dodgy and i know he is young but Fabianski doesn’t fill me with confidence when he plays either, his shot stoppin is good but handling is pretty poor.
Hopefully this guy can work with Almunia and become a good keeper, something we have missed since the Seaman days.
Does anyone else think that we should have given Taylor a go in goal instead of gettin Lehmann?
mannone is crap at top level but in reserves he good i was disappointed when he went barnsley n play poor durin his loan
i think mannone is useless but wenger surely sees something in him as he has given him a lower shirt number this season and included him in the first team squad, hopefully this rumour materialises and we let go of mannone..
Iker Casillas is smaller and he’s not too bad. Mannone is ok but still young.
I think this could be a good signing for arsenal particularly with Vito not really looking all that impressive in his appearances (although i hope its just a blip) he could provide valuable cover in the squad. I think Arsene’s and Cagigao’s record for spanish isn’t bad is it ?
J, with a game tomorrow night and Saturday as well as a qualfier on Wednesday, do you know if Arsene Wenger is going to take some of the youngsters to the Ajax tournament, so that the first teamers don’t get over-used. I’m assuming Wilshere is going as he’s now in the 1st team squad, but what about the likes of Gibbs (who has impressed), Merida (if he’s back from holiday), Randall, Lanbury and Hoyte (all went to Austria) or maybe some of the others as they haven’t been involved as much.
I wouldn’t mind seein Barazite go but can’t see it happenin at the mo cos of Bendtner, Vela, RVP and Ade. I would like to see him get a go against good opposition. See where he really is in his development. Or even Jay Simpson who was by all counts impressive when he came on last night!
Felipe is not that good i must say, he was always behind the pecking order of Castilla team sheet, he did play for a number of games when Codina was absorbed to Real senior team, then Lopetegui decided to give Adan the no.1 spot, and this trend has continue for quite sometimes for Real reserve keeper. Throughout the years, the ever changing goalkeeper at Real’s cantera has been quite worrying. Before that, it was Carlos Garcia, then Cobeño, follows by Codina and Kiko Casilla. And only Codina managed to get to the senior team, while the rest ends up playing reserve football at other Spanish Primera or Segunda team. But i must say Adan might be the first to actually can break this worrying trend.
Offer has come for Felipe, but unfortunately all of them from Segunda and Tercera Division team. I don’t see why Cagigao who has been quite an impressive when it comes to finding a talent would recommend someone like Felipe who IMO isn’t any better than either Almunia or Fabianski.
This season could be a disaster if we lose almunia to a long term injury! Surely Fabi aint good enough to play in the premiership week in week out YET. What u think J?
Ben – Were taking a 26 man squad, so expect some young players in the team.
damn, i looked at the title and thought you meant Sergio Ramos
i think vela, walcott, justin hoyte, wilshere, r goin to b dere but play 45 minutes max
taylor – u r joking aren’t you ?
lehmann – on his day, was a great goalkeeper – i’m convinced if we’d have signed him a year earlier we would have won the league in 2002/03 too
why would Theo and Vela only play 45mins? Theo is first choice RM at da mo and Vela is a cert to be reguarly on the bench for us this season.
It is always good to hear of good young players being linked with Arsenal but dont believe everything you read in AS we all know what rubbish those Spanish papers come up with.
“Arsenal fan” why would you write “dere” instead of “there”? Ok it is one letter shorter but makes you sound pretty stupid.
its all about fitness u think a man can play a full 90 minutes i dont
after playin 45 against huddersfield
Just what we need.
Another crap Spanish keeper.
Fantastico!
Spike, how do you know he’s crap?
Being called up for the Spain youths certainly wouldn’t make him crap in my eyes.
If your basing that on the fact he hasn’t layed for Real think about it. No one would over take Casillas! I doubt even Buffon would!
Im basing it on the fact that we have Almunia as our number 1 keeper. And he’s shite.
Now please desist from trying to make out this one’s any good as you havent got a clue either.
CLOCKO Gus Caesar played for England U21’s and Eboue is a full international………so he plays for Spain Youth big deal. If we are to buy a keeper it should be one to replace Almunia not Mannone
For a moment I thought we were being linked with that overrated turd from Real Madrid Sergio “The Answer” Ramos. Not quite sure what another young keeper would add to an already stacked deck at Arsenal.
Plus he looks a bit like that “renowned cunt” David Bentley, and the less I am reminded of that arsehole the better.
Spains Youth team is one of the greatest in the world, so the fact he has featured for them is impressive, and then going with the first team is also big.
Matt i agree but have to say also that Lansburys hair these days also reminds me of him lol!
I had good faith in Stu Taylor, he had some fantastic performances, on in particular V Utd at OTraf.
I also remember a progamme in which Bob Wilson said he wasnt yet at Seamans level, however he was as good as Manninger, after Alex had his great season.
i hear arsenal are close to signing xabi alonso. i am not happy
i dont think alonso is the answer for arsenal to be honest
im i the only person who rates mannone as when he has played 1st team games the goals he has conceded have been defletions which would have wrong footed 9/10 goalkeepers so dont say he’s crap because i doubt alumunia or this guy would have done better and wenger see’s something in him so trust him also he’s one of the best players in the reserve only second best to barazite last seasons and finally when he was on loan at barnslay he was 17 and had barley played or the reserves so dont say he is crap whenhe was a kid at barnslay.
have faith in mannone and give him time to show what he can do becaue tisi the only thing i dislike about this blog is that people come on and say all the players bar one or two are crap and should be gotten rid of when they are still in their teens as we all expect them to be like fabregas and be a 1st team player at 16
It would be nice. But it would be the best if we would buy Krkics.
Keepers generally take ages to mature.
What ever happened Vieira the keeper?
Wasnt he demoted to second choice keeper when we played Villareal
AS and Marca are unreliable sources especially when it invloves R Madrid players, those papers are their propaganda weapons.
IF we were to sign a keeper, surely one who is experienced and proven would be what we need, not yet more unproven kids???
Saw a profile of this guy on the Real Madrid TV channel and he looked shit hot. Manonne wont make it at Arsenal, he seemed to recover from the spell at Barnsley but seems to have regressed again. Size doesn’t matter as the likes of Cassilas, Given and Green have proved over the years and Lehman was an incredible keeper.
Great article J, this really would be a coup me thinks.
I think we should go for green and be done with it, Wenger is great at picking outfield players, but when it comes to keepers his record is not that hot….GREEN OR BORUC is say and be done witch it… he should let wilson pick keepers…
Yeah, let Wilson Pickett. (look it up!)
I think Almunia is a decent keeper so I am not too fussed about him being the number 1 this season. If we can keep Cliche, Sagna and either Gallas or Kolo (preferably both) fit this season then I believe we will be solid. If they defend well and the rest of the team does as we have become accustomed to, ie: pass other teams completely off the park, the opposition teams will be restricted to pot shots and deflected efforts. Almunia is an outstanding shot stopper and made some fantastic reflex saves last season so the way we play should highlight his strengths.
But of course I would prefer a top keeper as opposed to a decent one. I don’t know why Wenger does not just go out and sign Sebastian Frey like he should have done 5 years ago. Alongside Gigi Buffon he is the best keeper in the Italian game and should have been Frances number one a long time ago.
Well if hes not happy playing back up to Casilhas and Dudek then why would he be happy playing second fiddle to Almunia and Fabianski.
It’d meen the end for Mannone and quite probably one of Almunia or Fabianski aswell.
Cant see this happening. Wenger said we we’re close to signing any1 and i believe him (probably foolishly cuz he often says that and then goes and buys sum1). I just dont think he thinks we need a keeper, and i dont think we need a keeper.
not close to signing any1*
Dont get me wrong, ive heard of him, seen him play a couple of times and rate him alot, i just cant see it happening. If we buy him as back-up, then fabianski will evetually go and so will Mannone, but i wouldent be overly fussed about that. But hes only 20 so i wouldent like him as first pick, and i know the greats all start early, Buffon, Casilhas etc… but i think Almunia is a good keeper and replacing him with a 20yr old could b a disaster.
I actually don’t care if Mannon leave as I think he’s shit anyway. Sczeszny on the other side I think can be a world class stopper.
Slightly unnecessary as Almunia is 30, Fab 22 and Ramos is 20 so he is getting ready to start playing first team only to be no.3. Fabianski is meant to be future No.1 so he probably won’t get much playing time.
People who say Vito and Fab are crap, dont know what they are talking about. Because a goalkeeper will not develop to their full potential until they are atleast 25 -27. Soin their early 20’s they are just were they should be. wenger must see something realy good with Fabianski in training, otherwise when considering a future replacement for Jens at the start of last season he would have got someone with more experience.
here is news that i found on tribalfootball.com
While Frank Rijkaard was known for his laid-back ways, Guardiola is publicly demonstrative and was spotted at the end of training yesterday in heated conversation with Thierry Henry for fifteen minutes.
Twice Henry attempted to end things by walking away, only for Guardiola to grab him by the arm and continue the chat, says Sport. The Frenchman also tried to appeal his side of things, gesturing with his hands, but Guardiola continued to lead the conversation.
The Barca boss had a similar chat with Alex Hleb, again with his arms waving and visibly dominating the confrontation.
hope they find spanish grass is greener at barca.
FCdeMatthew – I think he could be a great coach, Barca looks rejuvenated and they play some great football!
I have heard good things about this Ramos and in my opinion is a better goalie than Mannone so would be a decent signing
http://theworldsmostbeautifulgame.wordpress.com/
Mouhsin, i haven’t seen barca play under Guardiola.
I’m very shocked at some comments i’ve read here.
More shocking is that some of you say “you don’t think we need a GK” OMG, what planet are these pple on? You consider Almunia a trophy winning GK? Whilst I think he is not too bad, he’s certainly not worth dancing over and imagine he breaks his leg in mid September (not that i wish), where does that leave us? Fabianski as number 1 GK? Hahahaha! It’s very ridiculous. This is the one reason for me to believe as a squad, we are not going into this season, ready to win. Better put, is that we are going into the season to give it our best shot. It’s two different things. You can give it your best shot and still more likely win nothing. There are no shortages of GK but Arsene thinks Almunia is enough. I’m 110% sure that he’s wrong. Now that Lehmann’s gone, he has no competition and Fab cannot push for his shirt. Almunia will just turn up and get an automatic shirt knowing there’s no competition for the number 1 shirt. As much as I hate to say this, I can put down all my money that AW will regret giving Almunia the number 1 jersey without any competition like Shay Given or Robert Green. It’s just a shame that it is you and I that will feel the depression of the embarrassment. Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U all have better GKs than us. I can boldly say that! Why? I’m so fed up up AW patching things up. Let’s call a spade a spade. Almunia was one of two white elephants in the room last season. We all know the truth. Drogba tore Almunia to shreds at Stamford Bridge, shooting directly into the middle of the net. That was very hard for me to take and I’m sure was hard for thousands of other fans out there.
Come beginning of July, Wenger was quoted as saying: “we had some defensive problems last season. Certainly, we will look to strengthe in that department…” Have we stregthened there? NOOO
Fans are no fools. Felipe Ramos, I don’t know. All I will say is that last season, when Almunia was in goal, Arsenal fans knew a certain Lehmann was in the squad who could prove himself for the number 1 shirt, so I personally felt we would be fine in that department. Now Lehmann’s gone, it only makes sense to bring in an experienced GK and allow him and Almunia to fight for the number 1 spot. IMHO, there is no back-up plan, no plan B to Almunia if anything was to go wrong. This is why I firmly believe we may end up winning nothing again if AW does not wake up from his delirium! I’m gradually losing my temper now.
Why promise strengthening in defence when you can’t guarantee it?
You can’t win the title on the cheap. Never. It’s over 38 games and you can’t hide. With luck we may win in cup competitions but plas forget the title, if things are the way they are come August 31. Had we a solid keeper and a solid defensive partnership last season, we would have definately won the title and even edged closer in the CL. But no one dare says the truth these days. I’m not scared to say it. You can fool people but you can’t fool yourself. I’m not going to fool myself by saying we are ready, because we are not. We’re well stocked on the wings now and are looking good going forward. But what of the defence, a dept that was the constant source of headaches last season?
We just assume the problems have disappered. Sorry they haven’t!
I don’t mind giving young players a chance to develop. It’s just absurd to gamble the way Arsene does. He’s master gambler extraordinaire!
Thanks Sanderson(y)
daymee… i just think ur wrong. No offence meant, but i dnt agree with any of that. Im not guna go throu it all, cuz i agree with nothing.
Look at it this way, we were 4 point off the title, so three draws turned into wins and we had the title. It not that we didnt defend well enough, we just didnt close games well enough. there were atleast 5 0-0 or 1-1 draws we should have and easily could have won, but we didnt get the winner and didnt win the game. With Van Persie back and hopefully fit for the season, Rosicky returning and Nasri added (ok Hleb taken away but he didnt chip in with many assists and even less goal anyway) and all of our players one year older and wiser, i think we wont draw as many this season.
We lost 2 games, Middlesbrough away (terrible all round performance), Chelsea away (hardest place to go, slightly unlucky but if we’d got a second to make it 2-0 it would have been very different). 2 games lost in a season is league winning form, however we draw 9 games, thats not good enough and that was the differance between us winning the title with a decent margin between 1st and 2nd place and us being 4 points off the title.
and in many of those draws we conceded first after 20-30 mins of pressuring but not scoring. If we dont convert but keep a sustained attack you leave yourself wide open, and it doesnt matter if you have liverpool, utd or chelseas back four and keeper or ours, thats just football. When they pressure a side for 30 mins they get a goal, we often dont.
There’s a distinct difference between AW saying that he will “look to strengthen in that department” as opposed to “we will strengthen in defence.” You can’t argue that he promised to, primarily because he didn’t.

Any articles for http://theworldsmostbeautifulgame.wordpress.com/ would be more than helpful ;)
anyway we certainly need a GK, look at our GK lineup up. FFS! Mannone is number 3 get a grip guys
will people stop sayig mannone is crap as he is clearly not if youve watched any reserves games last year and no-one can judge a player on a pre-season and a 2 game long spell at a championship side when he was 17 and anyway if you all say mannone is crap you have to say that that jay simpson is crap as he even failed to score against a team that was basically a pub side so will never make it in the 1st team the same goes for lansbury, randall, gibbs and i could go on as all have either been crap in pre-season or were really crap at recent loan spells so dont just jump on he band wagon and start insulting vito mnnone when theyare clarly players that you all seem to rate higher that have been lot worse than mannone so give him a break nd wait at least wo more years before you judge him as it’s very that goalkeepers are able to play 1st team before ther 21
Fcuk Barca!Felipe Ramos is 6ft 2″ and very good.Make the signing boss and get Tawric Jibril while you’re at it.

Any goalkeeper emerging from Spain now has absolutely no chance of making it at Real Madrid or Spain. Saint Casillas is simply just too good and is well off 30 as it is.
As for this guy, never heard of him and why is Real so hell bent on letting go of all there stars?
I think we should go for green and be done with it, Wenger is great at picking outfield players, but when it comes to keepers his record is not that hot….GREEN OR BORUC is say and be done witch it… he should let wilson pick keepers…
This is what my fren reply to me for the comment of this article.

Hahaha..every year say the same thing..want to win EPL & UCL.. Everybody want to win tat la hehehe.. Good luck Arsenal..hopefully this season can get 2nd place..beat Chelsea hihihihi.. :p….and with current condition, i believe we can get 2nd place…no world class keeper, no mf, Gallas at defence….
we need a defensive CM not a goalkeeper. :(
diaby is too injury prone and looks like song will be playing as CB. denilson is not good enough rite now. need some experienced head on the DCM role.
Any more news on this signing??
Dear Gunners, forget about Felipe Ramos, Pablo Sarabia and more Spanish players.
