Arsenal V Huddersfield – Friendly – Match Preview

As Arsenal travel to West Yorkshire for tonight’s friendly against Huddersfield Town, many of the players participating for the Gunners will have little idea of influence Herbert Chapman had on both club’s.

The average age of travelling party is just 18, meaning the clash with be a learning curve for both sets of players. Arsenal will learn to deal with the physical aspect, and Huddersfield will look to take on board the way the visitors move the ball.

Two promising 16-year-olds have travelled – Emmanuel Frimpong and Jack Wilshere – and the pair will be joined by a handful of last seasons star Under 18 performers. Captain Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will be joined by fellow defender Kyle Bartley, and live-wire forwards Rui Fonte and Sanchez Watt are also in.

Arsène Wenger is sure to start with his most ‘experienced’ side, with 19-year-old’s Theo Walcott and Carlos Vela expected to lead the line. The Hoyte brothers have had mixed fortunes during pre-season so far, and they will be looking for a confidence boosting clean sheet.

Fabianski (c)
J.Hoyte – Djourou – G.Hoyte – Gibbs
Lansbury – Randall – Ramsey – Wilshere
Walcott – Vela

Subs – Mannone, Bartley, E-Thomas, Fonte, Frimpong, Nordtveit, Watt, Simpson.

Huddersfield have added defensive re-enforcements over the summer, snapping up highly rated Andy Butler. The former Scunthorpe man will have his hands full this evening, with Walcott and Vela looking to add to their pre-season strikes.

Predicted Score – Arsenal 3-0 Huddersfield.

The game is live on ArsenalTV & online, meaning it will be also shown on Setanta Sports.

Should you miss the fixture, a full Match Report will be available immediately after the full-time whistle.

Also with Ajax game is he not better starting Simpson rather than Theo. See what J is made off.

Hoyte got the nod over Havard during most of pre-season, so i would expect him to get at least 45 minutes, maybe Varad will play the second half.

Cheers Gooner, were all excited about Jack too.

I think Nordtveit will play. He didnt play at the Emirates because of an injury. RM, he will play Walcott and put in front Simpson.

    My team:

    Fabianski (c)
    J.Hoyte – Djourou – Nordtveit – Gibbs or G.Hoyte
    Walcott – Randall – Ramsey – Wilshere
    Simpson – Vela

This has to be Randall and Lansbury’s last chance to impress before the season begins, so far they have been piss-poor and looked not bothered.

off topic: if wenger buys a centre back and a defensive midfielder known for being physically strong not someone like xabi alonso hes known for being technically strong and his long range goals, i want a beast like patrick vieira, i can see denilson potential of fillin dat gap but the thing about denilson he shows that after a while hhes a attacking player, id like a beast of a centre back aswell cus toure n gallas are not beasts i want someone like chiellini fuck hes is scary

You reckon Wenger will have one eye on the dam tourny anyway?
I think Vela, Walcott, Wilshere and Ramsey will prob only get a half.
Most have been playing pre-season so match fittness isn’t a worry but as we billed it as a first team game we have had to take some along otherwise i don’t think they would have been there at all!
    What do you think?

Agree Clacko, cant see many of the ‘experienced’ boys getting more than 45 minutes. They were probably included to show that we do care about the game, but its more about the kids.

Gibbs wont be a long-term left back, because of Pedro but for the time being he is showing his class.

j i dont see how you say gibbs isnt a long term left back now. he hasnt played left mid for awhile and wenger wouldnt waste his development playing him out of position. besides who’s to say botelho wont be another flash in the pan left back a la traore and moved to winger? imo gibbs hasnt put a single foot wrong all season so to instantly assume botelho will instantly be ahead of him is a bit ignorant of kierans accomplishments.

JS i thought Havard didnt play after the Barnet game because of injury? Because he is a much much better prospect than Gavin and i was very impressed with how he played against Barnet so cant see how Gavin could get into the team infront of him. Also with regards to the team uve put up 1 change i would love to see would be Ramsey on the wing and Lansbury in his perferred CDM role doub that will happen though.

Btw JS although i dont comment on ere for awhile i still read all your articles and am impressed as ever just sometimes dnt have any input to add.

I Promise all arsenal fans the following info is full facts…

Emmanuel Frimpong – Is a Extremly strong , and is physically ready for the Prem , Before he signed for Arsenal , United and Chelsea were intrested in him …Before he played for arsenal he was part of the infamous “Broadwater Farm Football Club” , He is highly rated and the scout who got him to arsenal referred to him as the Top 2 Midfielders in the country at his age group. He is similar to Essien in my opinion with a pass and a shot…

Correct me if im wrong i already remenber him playin in a reserve game a couple seasons back when we had girgos efrem and peggy

re: the recent talk of wilshere being old enough because hes good enough-i think we should fill the dm spot using a player from within. against barnet, coquelin looked closer to that flamini-esque player than anyone else we have. and though it was just barnet i feel he deserves more chances when he returns from injury. if jack wilshere is now in the first team then fairness should win out and coquelin, if he proves himself, should have the same treatment wilshere has been given because i think everyone agrees he had a very confident performance against barnet and he should have the opportunity to line up alongside cesc if he proves himself like jack did

It sucks for young players like Nordtveit who have the chance to impress in pre-season but they get injured, even worse because it’s harder to get into the first team squad as a defender than a creative player.

Poorest player has to be Randall. I asked a question a while back about Lansbury’s position. Iwas told he was a DM. If thats so why does Wenger constantly play him as a winger. He doesn’t shine out there (and I know he has only recently come back from a long term injury) and Randall has looked poor in CM since preseason begun.

I wish Lansbury could show more going at defenders. It seems the only tool he has is to pass the ball. I remember hereing someone describe him as having Brazilian moves. I personally haven’t seen anything Brazilian from him. Was he showing more in terms of dribbling before the GF? Or is this all he can offer?

Derrick: AW is notorious for playing players out of position in less important games to help develop them for his own brand of total football. Diaby would only use his right foot, now he’s good with both, for example, or TH/TW on the wing. Total football’s greatest atribute, it could be seen, was players ability to change position with ease. If, for example, Gallas was to go forward, a midfielder would drop back and so on. Of course we don’t play total football, the current Dutch side has proved that it doesn’t work in modern football but instead a variation of it. The variation is a more rigid 4-4-2 but knowing that if needs be, it is natural for players to help fill in if needs be.

I’m not sure if any of you remember Wenger saying he will be looking to strengthen in defence, earlier in July. That seems very far fetched now doesn’t it?
At times I wonder whether he has any sympathy for fans who shell out their hard-earned money to follow this club.

What was the problem last season?
Injuries you may say but the truth is it was the defence. Has any strengthening happened there this summer? NO
Any chance of that happening before the end of the month? Very unlikely. So, I won’t be wrong to say we will be gambling in defence again wont we?
IMO, Almunia is not good enough. Assuming he has a very bad injury in mid September, what happens?
    Fabianski? You’re having a laugh!
    Need I say mo

I’m really not happy with the arrogant way Wenger carries on about winning when we don’t even have a proper back up GK. I’m happy with the development of the young players tho. At times I feel Wenger must really think fans are fools

daymee: i agree with you and don’t take this as me defending wenger, just what happened: he decided that when over the summer the defenders had proved to him that they would be good enough to step up. Hopefully he’s right but I am very sceptical. He did also bid for Zapata according to his agent, but seeing as the many clubs known to be very interested, i guess everyone had been priced out of the transfer. Obviously I know a lot less regarding scouting, but it seems odd that we can’t fnd another defender better than Senderos.

Ok, i’m gonna go watch the daily show. have fun fellas.
