Arsenal XI V Worthing – Friendly – Match Preview

Neil Banfield and Steve Bould will take an Arsenal XI to Worthing this evening as the Reserves complete their preparations ahead of Monday’s season opener against Chelsea.

Worthing have been anticipating the fixture against the Gunners for weeks, who have brought a strong squad to the Woodside for the 7.45pm kick off. Jack Wilshere is the surprise inclusion, he will be joined in a competitive midfield alongside Fran Mérida, Mark Randall and Henri Lansbury.

Rui Fonte is bang in form after his double against Boreham Wood, Jay Simpson was also on target that night and he partners the Portuguese marksman in attack.

Confirmed Starting Line up

Szczesny
Rodgers – G.Hoyte – Bartley – Gibbs
Lansbury – Randall – Mérida – Wilshere
Fonte – Simpson (c)

Subs – Shea, Ogogo, Steer, Thomas, Dunne, Murphy, Watt

News has spread among the home faithful that Arsène Wenger will be making a check on the stars of tomorrow, who are missing French duo Francis Coquelin and Gilles Sunu. Former Worthing boss Barry Lloyd has singled out Henri Lansbury ahead of the kick off, and offered high praise for the 18-year-old.

“I saw them play at the end of last season. I think Henri Lansbury is exceptional. He can play anywhere across the middle and he’s been there a year longer than the others. There are some very, very talented players in this line-up.”

Local boy Rhys Murphy is another highly rated prospect who has been talked up by the opposition, however, the energetic forward will have to make do with a place on the bench.

“He’s been there two or three years, he’s about 5ft 11in, good build and an excellent target man up front.”

The game kicks off at 7.45pm, and a handful of tickets are still on sale. Should you not be able to attend this evening, Young Guns will offer a Match Report shortly after the full time whistle.

Interesting to see wilshere but no ramsey. I know he’s meant to be very tired and we were preventing him from burnout, but wasn’t that meant to be the case with wilshere?

    Ben Jones:

We were drawn together with Fenerbahce, Porto and Dynamo Kiev.
It’s been a while since we were drawn to Dynamo Kiev. I remembered Lehmann had a horror show in season 2003/04 at Kiev while Ashley Cole had to bare us the blushes of crashing out of the knockout stages with a crucial 1-0 goal at Highbury.

JS do u think Lansbury position will Be central midfield or as right sided midfielder. I think he would be an excellent CM midfielder-hes a gooner and hes been at arsenal at 9 so hopefully he can make it. Do u think hes got the pace and dribbling skills to play right hand side?

He is a central midfielder, but at the moment he is not first choice so has to play out of position.

He is not very quick and he doesn’t run at people, but he has a great passing range.

I have never seen Lansbury properly in action, and FM isn’t a accurate source on young players. How’s his tackling, stamina and such, does he posses the talent and potential to ever make it as a box-to-box midfielder in Arsenal?

And does anyone know the score?
