Arsenal's Pedro Botelho Scores As Salamanca Win 14-2

Arsenal’s Brazilian wing-back Pedro Botelho was amongst the scorers yesterday evening, as UD Salamanca began their -season preparations with a massive 14-2 victory over minnows UD Villamayor.

Pedro has had the added bonus of two extra weeks training as he joined up with the Arsenal team in early July, and was put through his paces by Arsène Wenger before returning to Spain on the 21st. There had been speculation that the 18 year old would be joining Real Sociedad but as we revealed last month, he will see out the next 12 months with UDS, before returning to North London next summer.

His development is right on track, and although had has skipped some lessons, Pedro is being taught English by Salamanca fan club owner Peter Murphy. Murphy and his assistant Laura are qualified professors, and are being paid by Arsenal to tutor the Brazilian.

Yesterday’s game kick-started Salamanca’s pre-season, and in a similar way to Arsenal, they took on lower league local opposition. UD Villamayor have just been promoted to the Spanish Football League, and although they are extremely poor, manager David Amaral saw the encounter as a good work out.

A large crowd had gathered at Villamayor’s ground – which is based inside a golf complex – and with tickets available at just €3 euros each, the atmosphere was positive ahead of kick-off. Pedro started at left back, but with such poor opposition, he would no doubt be showing his technical aspects going forward.

The game began with relentless attacking, with everything good about UDS running through Pedro. His fearless and powerful running power saw Villamayor pressed back, and soon his tricky style would pay off. Two electric runs saw the hosts back off, before the Brazilian clipped two crosses into the box for two Salamanca goals. He would then show his Samba side, with flicks and tricks to please the watching crowd.

Paulo Sergio and Mikel Dañobeitia had hat-tricks, and before the half was over, ‘Pedrinho’ crashed home for his first goal for the club (pictured). 7-0 at the break, with a further eight to come in the second period – However, one was given as offside. Pedro went off at half time, but his exploits led to fans giving him the Man-Of-The-Match award, and Spanish Newspaper AS describing him as ‘deadly’ and ‘dazzling’.

The two weeks spent training with Arsène Wenger and the Arsenal squad seemed to have fine-tuned Botelho’s game, and this campaign promises to be an exciting one for the tricky winger.

    Sexy Pedro in the making?
Just hope he returns soon. He’ll be very useful. Too bad he’s not with us now. :(

From what I know, he’s more of a left winger than a left back.
Btw, where are you from, Mouhsin?

I don’t see Evina being anywhere near the first team with Pedro and Traore around. Plus Clichy.

Evina is a better winger, he is quite poor at defending, but great at going forward. Quick feet, strong, powerful.

But i see Pedro being the most exciting full-back at the club.

From the little I have seen of Pedro I can only conclude his talent is a mixture of Ashley Cole, Cristiono Ronaldo, and Thierry Henry.

I did follow it briefly, but nobody really seemed too bothered about Gilbert, as we all know he will probably leave in the summer.

I will follow his progress when the League kicks-off.

Pedro looks like a really good prospect. Hopefully he’ll get chances next season and really improve as much as he can in one before coming back to us cuz we could well need him.

Evina is a good player, i like him, although ive only ever seen highlights of games hes playing in.

    Good article.

Scoring goals will not only boost Pedro’s confidence but could come some way to furthering his development which Arsene Wenger I’m sure, will be extremely pleased with.

Hmm.. Football in Malaysia hasn’t been great for a long time.
But the English Premier League is very massive in Malaysia. Basically a lot of Malaysians are supporters of Arsenal so no worries. :D
Malaysia is a beautiful country only if we take good care of the country. At the moment, the political scene is a bit messy but luckily enough our society is still very peaceful and developing well at the moment.
If you’ve the chance to come to Malaysia, please do so, Mouhsin. There are some beautiful beaches as well, as shown by J. Sanderson in some of the Arsenal youngsters’ trip to Malaysia last year photos. :D

Nigel de jong would be good at arsenal I think, and I know that he loves arsenal, since I can remember an interview with him, a few years back, after he scored past arsenal at highbury.

But well I do not think it will happen, but you never know…

Adebayor is doing great he’s giving the defensive pair a real hard time. I am a bit dissapointed in Diaby though, I can’t say if he needs match excersize or that he’s just really slow, he holds up play to long and has little awereness. He is not the kind of player like Fabregas, Denilson and I must mention Flamini who already have looked before receiving a pass and already know what to do. Can’t see him doing a great job at DM if he doesn’t improve his awereness and distribution. Denilson looks good though he looks more and more comfortable every match he plays for now I prefer a new signing or Denilson next to Fab4.

Pfffff wat a bad tackle by Diaby I can’t say he’s fully responsible for, Sneijder was unlucky that his foot got caught in the grass but still a poor tackle. I’m sorry for Sneijder hope he isn’t out that long. Pfff I can see Diaby get red cards for challanges like that…

He’s okay nothing brilliant just good passing and good runs yet but surely will come!! Sensational dribble by Adebayor but he misses it!! Diaby loses the ball again in midfield which caused a dangerous attack for Madrid, surely a goal if van Nistelrooy was sharper.

Eboué with a poor pass, but got back and intercepted the cross. I wish Wenger could stop playing him on the right wing really that’s my first wish if I find the magic lamp!! Diaby is replaced by Ramsey and Nasri by Wilshire :D

wow, this wilshere kid is just something, I was of the opinion to hide him for at least one more seasons but now, I have to say he should play every carling cup game at least. Do you see how even knocks than players twice his age when they challenge each other?? Even Solgado ?? in btw, Adebayo still no 1 striker for us anyday, and denilson should take DM instead of Diaby..someone need to teach diaby how to pass the ball.
