Date Finally Confirmed For Arsenal V Boreham Wood

Arsenal and Boreham Wood have finally confirmed the date for the club’s proposed friendly, with the fixture now scheduled to take part on Tuesday August 12th (next week).

The game is a Reserves and Youth encounter, with Neil Banfield and Steve Bould expected to share responsibilities of looking after the young Gunners.

The original reason for the delay over the announcement came as Arsenal were forced to wait for the Champions League draw – as the first-team and Reserves cannot play on the same day – but with Arsène Wenger’s men now knowing their opposition in FC Twente, the Gunners now know they have the Tuesday free.

Boreham Wood’s stadium Meadow Park is used by the Gunners successful Ladies side, in a similar way which the Reserves use the Barnet’s Underhill ground. The game used to be a regular in both side’s pre-season preparations, but in recent years the teams have only met once – with Arsenal thumping them 4-0, thanks to strikes from then new signings Nacer Barazite and Fran Mérida.

Expect to see the likes of Francis Coquelin, Nacer Barazite, Jay Simpson, Henri Lansbury, Mark Randall and Håvard Nordtveit take to the field, but not Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs or Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who are with the first team in Holland.

Arsenal.com has been keen to stress this week that it will be a ‘Reserves and Academy’ team, although the game will be streamed like a Reserves game on Arsenal TV and Online, as well as Setanta Sports.

A full Match Preview will follow on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the 7.30pm kick off.

I love that this game is shown on TV. I will for sure go watch it. It will be very exciting to see a full 90 minutes with those guys. Many of them I have only seen on highlights from the U-18 games, and you know how bad they are.

Yep i think it’s important for some people who are yet to get a look at some of the Under 18’s a chance to see them.

I would expect plently of goals in this one too.

Good, i want to see Afobe, sounds like an amazing prospect.

We should beat Boreham Wood comfortably but it’ll be interesting too see which players can stand out in a game which should see a good general performace and decent scoreline from our lot.

Probably a good idea to give Bschoff a run out in this game. Looking forward to watching it.

If players like Afobe and Aneke are going to play under 18’s next season can we expect them to feature here?

Johnny Maverik, trust me, that Benik Afobe isn’t all that. I’ve seen him play for the last few years now, and he’s pretty average.
