Gibbs To Stay With Arsenal After Reading Move Collapses

Kieran Gibbs will not be joining the six Reserves starlets currently out on loan – at least not for the moment – after his proposed switch to Reading fell through.

The versatile 18-year-old headed Royal’s boss Steve Coppell’s list of names to replace the out going Nicky Shorey, but after having doubts over Kieran’s lack of experience, the Championship side signed Chris Armstrong, 26, from Sheffield United yesterday.

Gibbs spent three months on loan at Norwich last season, and Glenn Roeder indicated he was keen to retain the services of the England Under 19 International earlier this summer. However, with Armand Traoré being shipped out to Portsmouth, Arsène Wenger has back tracked on initial plans to farm the prospect out for a second time, instead opting to keep Kieran in London ahead of the Gunners entrance into the Carling Cup.

Other prospects that have been linked with moves include Jay Simpson, Paul Rodgers, Gavin Hoyte, and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, and whilst Monday’s deadline approaches, there promises to be more club’s in for Arsenal’s young guns.

Gibbs is a very good player, but very good players need to be playing every week. I would have backed a loan deal because we would eventually have a better player on our books. if he stays I’d like to see him given chances outside just the CC.

I have to say I am said that he isn´t given the chance to proof himself as a regular starter. But he will feature some this season as injuries will kick in like usual. It would have been pretty strange had he been loaned out. If he had, than we would have had 3 left backs, all 18 year old, loaned out to different teams.

Aye, What with Senderos off at Milan and Traore off at Portsmouth we need back-up at both CB and LB positions. Silvestre and Gibbs will give us that.

Gibbs has the agility and pace to play at left back and he can tackle but i wonder if he has the composure and positioning. To be fair though its still a very new position for him, hes only ever played there twice for the first team last season and in the pre-season.

ATM hes a better left mid or even striker in my opinion, but he can do a job at left back and with time and experiance he can become a brilliant left back.

T-Gully: Just from watching Arsenal News on ATV N on it, Wenger was asked about De Guzman N he sounded quite clear that he is “NOT” after him! I hope it’s just Wenger mind games coz we really need someone to bolster the defensive mid role!! P.S. Sorry if I’ve gone off topic J but, he is sorta young soo…..

Monday is not the deadline.Lower league clubs can still loan players a month after the deadline. This is when when most lower league clubs make there loan moves with there optians having been cut,Expect at least one from Rodgers,Gibbs,Randell,Merida,Dunne and Mannoe to go out on loan.Would like to see Jay Thomas go out on loan myself but Wenger will not allow it.
