Internationals – Ramsey, Henderson & Fonte In Action

This week see’s the first International action of the new season, with a handful of Arsenal’s younger playing staff in action for their countries.

Young Guns endeavours to bring you the latest updates on how they get on, in our International News Round Up. In this weeks update we feature the following players in the following games.

Aaron Ramsey – Wales U21’s V Romania U21’s
Conor Henderson – Ireland V Ukraine (Under 19 Tournament)
Rui Fonte – Portugal V Spain (Under 19 Tournament)

Aaron Ramsey – Wales U21’s 0-1 Romania U21’s

Aaron Ramsey elected to miss Wales’ friendly with Georgia to help the Under 21’s during their European Championships qualifying campaign. Ramsey, Gareth Bale and Chris Gunter all chose to help the second string, with the Caerphilly born starlet taking up a box-to-box role in the centre of midfield.

Both sides started at a frantic pace, with end-to-end football exciting the small crowd. Ramsey went about his job showing composure and elegance, as the Dragons fought for the deceive strike.

Sam Vokes and Gareth Bale both worked openings but failed to convert, with Romania frequently looking dangerous on the break. Bogdan Stancu nearly lobbed Wayne Hennessey in spectacular style, but a strong hand from the reported Arsenal target helped tip the effort over.

With the half coming to an end Sam Vokes headed over, before Ramsey found himself alone in the box, but as he tried to take a touch and compose himself, Ducu Ninu recovered to tackle back.

Aaron appeared tired as the half-time whistle blew, with the 17-year-old miss placing a long pass to Gareth Bale.

The second period saw the visitors looking to step their game up, and with 65 minutes gone the pressure tolled. Adrian Ropotan struck to stun Wales, with Ramsey withdrawn afterwards. The Gunners midfielder seemed exhausted all game, with the hard training over pre-season clearly taking it’s toll.

Aaron’s creativity was missed during the remainder of the fixture, with Wales slipping to defeat.

Rui Fonte – Portugal U19’s 0-1 Spain U19’s

Having bagged the winner against Ireland in the tournament’s opener, Rui Fonte kept his place in the Portugal team as they took on Spain knowing a victory for either side would all but wrap up the competition.

Rui played 45 minutes, but couldn’t prevent a defeat as Jordi Pablo Ripolles smashed the vital winner. Spain have all but won the inaugural tournament, with Portugal now looking for a heavy win against Ukraine on Thursday evening in the final game to rescue any hopes.

Conor Henderson – Ireland U19’s 0-1 Ukraine U19’s

Having played 82 minutes on his Under 19 debut, Conor was looking to build on his fantastic performance in the 1-0 defeat to Portugal.

The Arsenal youngster put in a hard working and energetic performance, but Ireland were out classed – slipping to a 1-0 defeat once more. Korkishko Dmytriy’s free kick going in via the bar was the crucial strike, but the experience gained by the London born prospect could prove invaluable.

Why are people talking about Silvestre here, he is not a young gun and there are plenty of other blogs going on and on about him.

As for our young internationals, I don’t know why it’s funny that 3 of them were on the losing side? Doesn’t sound like any of them played badly and their teams were not exactly trashed.

J, you should understand that the season is finally on the way, and telling people to keep quite about a topic as huge as a new signing is practically not possible. Yes this is a youth blog, but I tell you, it would only be very active during off season/ pre season when there isn’t first team football in action. You should start thinking about adding / allowing first team articles and you would see the difference in the inflock of people here.

Great blog no doubt, but the secret of success is not just doing something new and different, it must meet the peoples needs too..and right now, the peoples’ top priority need is 1st team football..understand that J. You would cause more harm to the blog than good deleting comments on 1st team here.

The whole success of this blog is because it’s new and fresh, if i start talking about the first i become like all the other blogs out there.

Why is this a great blog? because it’s different, i want to keep it that way.

The secret of it’s success so far has been youth news, so i will keep it with youth news.

Yea well i like this blog the way it is. I found this after months of frustration at Arsenal.com not having any details on the majority of U18 players, the comings and going in the youth set up etc…

Great blog, fills a gap and fills it to a high quality standard aswell.

I’m exited about Henderson now, a 15 yr old getting into an u19 side for any national set up, let alone the republic of ireland who ok, arent the strongest at that level, but have plenty of players to pick from, its outstanding. Havent seen much of him so i duno how good he is, from what i have seen hes a pretty good passer, thats all i really know.

Bit suprised Ramsey isnt in the Welsh National side, i know hes only 17 and still inexperianced but hes better than most of the central mids the have at the moment. They need players like him and bale if they’re guna have any improvement in the future and getting them involved, even if they’re not starting can only do good. There again, doesnt sound like he had his best of games today, although i didnt see it so im just goin on what ive read here and elsewhere.

As for Fonte, promising improvement over the pre-season, sounds like he was’nt much cop atall today if he started but only stayed on until half time. Obviously again, didnt see the game. There again i’m not too bothered how he does for Portugal, i can’t wait to see him back in action for the U18s and Reserves, hes got everything to proove this season.
