Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton admits he would ‘not be surprised’ if striker Danny Haynes ended up in the Premiership – with Arsenal or another club during the summer.
Gunners Chief Scout Steve Rowley accompanied by Championship based scout Stewart Houston were amongst the 10 thousand strong crowd on Tuesday evening, as Ipswich thrashed Leyton Orient 4-1 – with young marksman Haynes bagging a first half brace.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Magilton confirmed he is aware of the interest, and it’s now up to him to make sure Danny is focused ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley.
“We have to manage him so his head isn’t turned, we will give Danny an education here and if he listens and learns then he could be very good player and then he could name his own price.”
Haynes – an England Under 19 international – is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the Championship, with his searing pace and lethal finishing attracting huge interest. Ipswich are keen to hang onto the starlet, but a move to the Premiership over the summer is not being ruled out.
“None of us would be surprised if Danny went to a Premier League club, He has got electrifying pace but what we’re trying to do is give him a football perspective.”
A figure of around £3 – £4 million is thought to be enough to praise the Peckham born winger away, and with Danny reported to be keen to be closer to his roots, Magilton knows he will have a fight on his hands should a flurry of offers arrive.
“He has played a lot of games for me now and he has matured. He is a terrific lad who is finding his voice in the changing room and it would take really good money to prise him away from here.”
As previously mentioned, Ipswich will face Mark Randall’s former side Burnley tomorrow, and no doubt plenty of club’s will have an eye on how Haynes performs.

Please dont sign him wenger!
http://theworldsmostbeautifulgame.wordpress.com
Why not mate?
do you think he will sign
we have too many strikers in that department, Barazite SImpson, Vela Bendtner and the first teamers. And Haynes is 20. OK I wouldnt MIND him but its an unnecessary signing
He looks like a smashing player but i would doubt we’ll be in for him right now. Wengers probably just looking at him for next season
if we signed him we wont get critersised for buying forginers i think we could do with him more the better
Imagine Adebayor and VanPersie got injured at the same time (God forbid), a lot of us here will be moaning about how AW should have bought a striker. I’m not saying we’re not adequate in that dapartment, but when a player is so good at putting the ball in the back of the net, why in God’s name would anyone hesitate buying such a player? Because he will stand in the way of other players? Please put that in the backburner. At times it is good to have a player as a trump card and I’m not saying we haven’t got such players but this one is worth buying, particularly at the price he might be going for. Since I learnt about this story, I’ve been praying there is truth in it and that Wenger buys him. At times you just buy for a raining day and that may be your difference between winning anything or not.
No Point Unfair on Simpson , Murphy All over english strikers at the club , that they are taught the arsenal way and this is just a signal to show they are still not good enough They Dont Deserve It
J, any news on the second player to be loaned out to salamanca? Could it be Patrik, the brazilian playmaker/striker we were linked to a couple of months ago?
I think it would be unnecessary.. We got enough strikers!
Hi Mr Sanderson. I’ve been reading ur blog for half a year now so I was inspired to write my own about Arsenal (Arsenalcolumn.wordpress.com). (This is not an advert) However now u say I can’t advertise anymore on ur site….I see….You don’t like me…(sob). :(…Fine I will go and advertise elsewhere. It’s just i like u site and their seems to be good Arsenal fans there. but ok. if u must. I’ll pack my bags. It is a sad day. Good Bye.
By the way seagy44 is advertising too. (Sorry Mate) OK but he’s on the side links. Fine. Just wanted to take some dignity away. Looks like that won’t happen.
a little bit off topic but isanyone else a bit confused by wenger saying “kolo is a bit short but because of injures i have to push him”. That would suggest that either djourou’s got a niggle or one of denilson or ramsey is tired/injured meaning that djourou would have to play DM. What do u guys think.
Oh and good article again J. Personally I think we should get him. Competition is never a bad thing and it might make the likes of simpson try that little bit harder.
Harry- I think he means Kolo will be on the bench as we have no other Centre Backs and Hoyte is going to leave. Sagna can cover but he’s already starting so if he gets injured…..(Go to my site too..Joking!)
Hi guys,
I’m an avid Ipswich Town fan and stumbled upon this website, thought i would give you my opinion on Haynes.
I have watched this guy week in week out for the last 3 seasons and he has matured so fast, he has pace to burn and a fantastic finish however he’ll give you 15-20 mins of pure gold and then dissapear off the radar!
Personally i think that for 3 – 4 million you would be getting a great prospect for the future, i watched Darren Bent progress at Ipswich and i’m telling you this guy makes him look average!
I’m sure Wenger would sort out his lack of consistency!!
Good luck for the new season!!
He is a better prospect than Jay Simpson so why not take a punt on Danny Haynes
Hes a year older than simpson , and hes played more than simpson and there must be a reason why hes still in the divison , Bale , Walcott, Gunter ,Ramsey all players who made there debut early and was snatched up he hasnt
He wouldn’t be a good signing. I’m from Suffolk, so keep up with all things Ipswich Town, and Haynes is a talented, but very frustrating player. He has never really been able to influence games other than from the bench, and at 20 is older than many players who are better than him, Walcott, Vela, Barazite, Simpson.
He’s going to be a premiership striker, but not top 4, and would not be a worthwhile buy, especially for 4 million.
does any body know any more information about the transfer of xabi alonso > arsenal
according to his wikipedia
‘Late on 15th August 2008, it was revealed that Alonso would join Arsenal in an £8 million deal on a 4-year contract. Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger promised fans he would make another signing but insisted not before the opening game against West Brom on the 16th. However, when the opportunity arrose to prise the Spaniard away from Liverpool at a cut-price, Wenger couldn’t refuse. The media, and Gunners fans, are expecting big things of Alonso, who will partner fellow Euro 2008 winner, and good pal, Cesc Fabregas in the Arsenal midfield.’
Who said he’s gonna be played as a striker because really wenger knows he has 6 centre fwds and two and a half wingers so that should say it all but I hope this signing aint Alonso
Alonso is cup-tied mate…
Jamie…
I’m a huge fan of your site and read it faithfully.
But I don’t understand why you would prevent another would-be Arsenal blogger the right to advertise on your site.
Remember that you came out of nowhere yourself and have help along the way.
There is NO such thing as too many Arsenal sites. Supporters can’t get enough in the first place, and who’s to say that another, different voice might give us Gooners something unique.
You list some other sites here with links — including the super-negative Le Grove, which I don’t even bother to read anymore It’s nothing but a gang of anti-Wenger whingers, and worse, Le Grove often refuses to post comments from people who disagree — even if there is no foul language or any other reason to be ignored.
C’mon, Jamie, serve the Gooner Nation.
We’re all in this together, and you don’t want to be seen as a guy who is more about having a successful blog than truly helping all of us enjoy the Arsenal and the beautiful game.
Make the diplomatic move and consider it a compliment that a new blogger would turn to you for a boost.
Cheers!
Thanks for the support California Steve but I’m just joking around (though he did tell me not to). I fully understand if Mr.Sanderson doesn’t want me to advertise after I comment as this is his blog. However his blog’s link is at the side of my webpage. Completely my decision.
he was commenting on Jamie’s blog DOH
I am happy for people to advertise, but to leave just a comment with url is poor.
ahassan left a comment before with an opinion on an article and then his link and that was fine, if you ask for a link swap i will do that for you too
Yeh talking about that link swap. Like… I already added u …like straight away. without asking. soz.
