Nacer Barazite – Derby County 0-1 Southampton

After setting up two goals during a behind closed doors win over Leicester City on Wednesday, Nacer Barazite was handed the number 25 shirt and a place on the bench for Derby’s home game against Southampton.

The Rams came into the fixture sporting an unpleasant record, Nacer’s new team have not won a game for 341 days – an English record. Southampton offered a tricky challenge this afternoon, with County’s already fragile confidence set to be tested against a youthful Saints side.

The early stages saw the visitors go for the kill, with David McGoldrick smashing over. The poor start meant Paul Jewell’s side were shot with confidence, and in attack – Rob Hulse proved to be static and lethargic.

Half time brought a double substitution – Barazite for Davies and Leacock for Davis. The Flamboyant Dutchman came onto the left wing charged with the responsibility to creating chances to revitalise the struggling Derby strike force.

However, with nearly an hour on the clock, The Rams terrible run of luck continued with a Southampton opener. David McGoldrick fired home leaving Barazite and his team mates horrified.

Robbie Savage won a corner down the left, but Nacer’s deep cross was smashed down field. But the explosive 18-year-old was slowly turned the balance in favour of the Rams. His energy and willingness to chase the ball down earned the respect of the crowd, but a late tackle on Simon Gillet showed he was a little too enthusiastic.

With 5 minutes left the majority of the home faithful had left, with the record of successive defeats continuing.

Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester City 3-1 Tranmere Rovers

Kerrea Gilbert made his fourth consecutive start of the season for promotion chasing Leicester City this afternoon, with the Foxes entertaining Tranmere Rovers.

The visitors began the better of the two clubs, with Kerrea having work to do to stop the opener from going to Tranmere. After weathering the storm Leicester regrouped – and went close via Matt Oakley’s free kick.

David Martin’s long goal kick worked it’s way through to Steve Howard, the giant front man would then slot the hosts in front. The strike would see the pressure eased on Gilbert and his defensive colleagues, but on the break Rovers proved to be dangerous.

However, the lead would be doubled shortly after half time as Gradel’s cross found Matty Fryatt – he rose above everybody to glance into the corner. With 10 minutes left the previous comfortable nature of City’s place was disrupted as Chris Suker halved the deficit.

With stoppage time remaining Fryatt bagged his second, completing a fantastic win for Nigel Pearson’s side as their promotion push remains on track.

Vincent van den Berg – FC Zwolle 3-1 Cambuur

Vincent van den Berg’s FC Zwolle sit top of the Jupiter League this weekend after a 3-1 victory over Cambuur put them in the early driving seat for promotion.

Vincent was not included in the travelling party due to injury, but goals from van Polen, Botteghin and Kleizen wrapped up the points in front of a 5,670 strong crowd.

Armand Traore – Portsmouth V Manchester United

Armand Traore is in line to make his Portsmouth debut against Manchester United this weekend, as Pompey look to follow Newcastle’s lead by taking points of the Champions. A sold performance from Traore could help the South Coast side to an important win after defeat to Chelsea, whilst boosting Arsenal’s push for the League title with a major rival dropping points at this early stage.

Havard Nordtveit & Pedro Botelho – Salamanca V Merida

UD Salamanca will wrap up their pre-season preparations with a clash against Merida this evening, with Pedro Botelho and Havard Nordtveit both in the travelling squad, and both expected to get 90 minutes.

The fixture will be the final opportunity for new manager David Armaral to look at his squad ahead of next weeks League game against Alaves.

Haha wouldn’t be surprised if Derby got relegated :P

I think I watched 4 matches involving Derby last, and they played like sh*t – yeah, like very very extremely sh*tty in all four matches.

Hope Traore can make some havoc on Man U, would love to see portsmouth crushing them tomorrow!

And I wish Nordtveit and Pedro well, and hope they both get 90 minutes.
