Nacer Barazite – Derby County 0-2 Barnsley

Nacer Barazite was cup-tied for Derby’s 1-0 win over Preston in midweek, but returned to the squad to try an help turn around a League run which has seen the Rams fail to win in over 350 days.

Both managers came into the game under pressure, and Paul Jewell opted to leave Barazite on the substitutes bench for the away clash.

The encounter began in tense manner with both sides short on confidence, but it was Derby who nearly went in front but Addision crashed over. The half finished in a lack luster manner, but despite an average performance – both sides were applauded off.

Derby came straight out of the blocks in an attacking manner, but after failing to convert possession into chances, Barnsley forced there way back into the game. Diego Leon and Brian Howard had set piece efforts, but neither side had the killer spark.

Barnsley sensed the chance to steal the points – making a double change, and just minutes later it would pay off. Ian Hume struck the crucial goal on 72 minutes, leaving a dejected Jewell frustrated at his decision not to make substitutions.

Nathan Ellington replaced Emanuel Villa with time running out, but Hume’s corner was headed home by Foster to make it 2-0 and extend the Rams terrible run. Nacer was finally introduced on 83 minutes, and instantly won a corner from a free kick. But it finished 2-0.

Armand Traore – Portsmouth 3-0 Everton

Armand Traore kept his place in the Portsmouth team for their trip to Everton, with the Frenchman looking to continue the promising form shown against Manchester United on Monday evening.

Traore began the fixture with several neat touches and one excellent cross, before Pompey took the lead via a lashed Jermain Defoe effort. Having grabbed the opener, Portsmouth looked to press home the advantage, with some hustling from Armand nearly allowing Defoe the chance to bag the second.

But Everton came back strong, Yakubu volleyed hard at David James who could only tip his effort onto the post. However, with half time approaching, Traore’s fellow full back Glenn Johnson rifled the vital second to extend the lead.

The second half began in a contentious manner, as Everton were awarded a penalty following a defensive mix up. Yakubu’s kick was save by James, meaning Armand and his team mates were holding onto their clean sheet.

The 18-year-old tired as the game progressed, but was able to take things easy as Crouch sealed the points on 70 minutes. Traore was replaced on 77 minutes after a solid yet uneventful performance.

Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester City 4-0 Cheltenham

Kerrea Gilbert has started and played 90 minutes in ever single Leicester City game this season, and manager Nigel Pearson continued Kerrea’s run in the side away to Cheltenham Town.

The Foxes had a fantastic start as Lloyd Dyer handed the Foxes a 3rd minute lead. Gilbert had little work to do in the opening stages as Cheltenham were pressed back by the relentless visitors. Andy King received Gilbert’s throw and worked the home stopper with nearly half an hour on the clock, with Matty Fryatt also going close.

Leicester began the second half in an exciting manner – and nearly grabbed the second as Gilbert’s throw worked it’s way through to Fryatt, he blazed wide. But Matt Oakley and Matt Fryatt scored to make it 3-0, and with 10 minutes left Dyer got his second meaning the visitors excellent record continues.

Vincent van den Berg – FC Zwolle 1-1 Venlo

Vincent van den Berg was again left out of the FC Zwolle side with injury, meaning the Dutchman is yet to make his professional debut for his new employers.

Zwolle’s push for promotion took a firm hit yesterday, as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Venlo. van derHaar gave the home side the lead, but El Gaaouri rescued a point for Venlo late on.

Pedro Botelho & Havard Nordtveit – Salamanca V Alaves

UD Salamanca kick off their League season at home to Alaves tomorrow afternoon, with the game being broadcast live on Spanish Television.

Pedro Botelho has proved to be one of the stars of pre-season, with a goal and numerous assists putting him in firm contention to start at left back. Havard Nordtveit has just two games under his belt, and is subsequently only expected to feature from the bench.

Let’s hope so mate, it’s not like Derby are in top form and don’t need a good forward.

Apparently Derby played well but with no cutting edge. Another reason why the loan is also short is because Wenger probably wants to see if Nacer would have played enough before deciding if derby get him for remainder of the season.

I personally is pissed off because like Randall, Gibbs last year, their respective managers deciding not to play them enough despite struggling because some matches are more physically tougher even though ability wise they can offer good things.

Did anyone watch Vela against NUFC? I really needed to take a shit towards the end and went to the john since we’re up 3-0 anyways, so didn’t see the majority of Vela’s action.

Good report. Difficult to follow the loanees from a distance. Great game for the youngsters against Newcastle today too. Deilson wasn’t spectacular but his goal will have done his confidence the world of good. I think he and Cesc will become one of our best ever mid-field pairings. Arsene’s patient development of Denilson with as much playing time as possible this season will be key to that happening. Nasri, Vela and Theo all had good games, I thought. nasri looks like a sperb addition and I can’t wait to see Carlos feature more prominently. Will be difficult with RVP and Ade hitting form, but we need to find time for these youngsters to grow their first team experience. Roll on the Carling Cup in that regard.

J, what time is the Salamanca game tomorrow? If its live on Spanish TV im sure i can catch it somewhere online (probably not but i live in hope). Also do you think Nordtviet and Pedro are likely to start?

Gilbert seems like hes really impressed at Leicester, do you think he can fill the gap Hoyte has left when hes back or is it more likely Wenger will look to cash in on him at the end of the season?
