Millwall boss Kenny Jackett has given up hope of luring Arsenal striker Jay Simpson back to the Den, as the 19 year old is determined to force his way into Arsène Wenger’s plans.
Simpson bagged 8 goals in 41 appearances for the Lions last season, and after collecting the League One Player Of The Year award, Jackett had made the youngster his top transfer target.
However, after failing on two occasions to convince the Gunners to sell, the Millwall chief accepts the outcome and will now look elsewhere for a replacement.
“Jay’s time with us has been mutually beneficial and I will keep my eyes open for any movement but it is not looking likely in the coming month. He is now in a period that he can get under his managers nose after good season with us and try to get in Arsène’s [Wenger] plans.”
After a mixed pre-season, several Championship sides were reported to be keen to take Simpson on loan for a second time, but with injuries once more taking hold, Wenger is set to hang onto the Londoner.
Whilst in South London Jay made won many admirers including those of his fellow professionals, and Jackett says his character helped endear him to everybody at the club.
“But he did come to see us last week – he kindly returned the DVDs that he borrowed off me a while ago. Jay is a smashing lad with huge potential.”
Carling Cup football wil beckon for Arsenal fan Simpson during the coming season, with the ball now in his court to fight for a place.

nice…hope he plays a few games in the carling cup
he’s decent but maybe more of a backup at the moment.
Millwall is not in East London J. You could in trouble saying that lol.
On the Simpso front I hope he does well in the CC but wow Chelsea were amazing! We will have to keep up with them in my opinion

he needs to go to a team like Southampton n play regular football for another season b4 he gets a crack at Arsenal
Jay Simpson may want to try and force his way into the Arsenal first team XI but i personally can not ever see it happening, i reckon we will sell him next season IMO
I really hope jay can make it with us. Hopefully he can have the patience. I would have liked him to go on loan in the championship, but hope he gets a few games with us.
I think he can be our impact player like Walcott has been, but now Theo is in the starting line we wont get the impact he had from the bench.
Is Millwall in south london? Arent they mid-east? Thought Millwall was right north for Thames.
Hope Jay stay for a couple of year atleast, really like his determination, and would love if he made it here.
Man U are holding onto Frazier Campbell and he’s not much better than Jay so we should keep him. What’s more is that he’s versatile so he can cover the strikers and RM (where we don’t have any outstanding players apart from when Rosicky returns to LM and Nasri moves over to the right). He’ll probably play up front with Eduardo in the carling cup, although Vela and Bendtner may still play in it as well.
I worry about how much playing time he’ll actually get though. He has the perfect attributes to be a successful striker but needs to prove himself in the PL and he probably won’t get many chances to do that.
Wonder Where Jay Got this article from hmmm ?
Ok, I found out Millwall FC moved from Millwall in 1910! sry
Harry Redknapp was saying he needed pace in midfield to run onto the ball and that he wanted a player on loan. Would they be willing to take Simpson on loan? I doubt it but that’d be a very good move if he could get first team football and if we could recall him in January.
There were also rumours about Traore joining Pompey on loan in the summer I believe. Both are unlikely to happen though.
Anyone got news on Song? Cameroon got knocked out so when will he be back with us?
Just saw villa vs man city, how are young and agbonlohor not in the england squad but walcott is? Even a die hard gooner must admit walcott doesnt deserve to be there.
Walcott doesn’t deserve to be in there at all based on his pre-season and the first 2 games. Hopefully he doesn’t play for them, comes back to us with bags of energy and actually uses his pace to get past players (hate to say it but he can’t do much else) because when he doesn’t do that he’s invisible and doesn’t fit into the passing system.
wow thats true , how can young and agbonlohor not be there and walcott is … POLITICS INVOLVED IN FOOTBALL
As much as I’d like to see him succeed, I don’t think he will.
Vela and Bendtner are ahead of him in the CC, and if we’re short up top, Walcott can play there.
Going on Simpson’s performance last season and Walcott’s performance so far this season I think Simpson should get promoted to the first team to push Walcott for a place on the right.
