20 Reserve Players Added To Arsenal's First Team Squad

Arsenal have added 20 Reserve and Youth players to the first team for the coming campaign, making them eligible to perform in any competition for Arsène Wenger’s side.

Of the 20, 3 players are currently away on loan spells, (Nacer Barazite, Armand Traore, Vincent van den Berg,) whilst other loanees Kerrea Gilbert and Havard Nordtveit have not been given numbers. Pedro Botelho has a contract with the club, but because he does not have a British visa – he cannot be registered.

So wait, all the promoted kids are eligible fpr the CL but Bisch isn’t? I can understand Randall and Gibbs, maybe the fourth keeper but… it just seems a bit confusing.

Would have much prefered to see Merida be given a proper number aswell, instead of slumming it in the 40s. I guess him and Simpson just aren’t going to come out of the reserves this calender year, at least.

Bischoff is not fit enough to play, so he is not included. If we had a mass injury crisis Bischoff is taking the position of a fully fit player.

And they will be released next summer.

    J. Sanderson,

Saw this wikipedia.com. Is this real or prank?

Stephen Appiah (born December 24, 1980) is a Ghanaian International football midfielder and the captain of the Ghana national team who is currently a free agent after being released by turkish side Fenerbahçe.

With the Ghana national team, he has played at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship, the 1997 and 1999 World Youth Championships, the 2004 Olympic tournament, and the 2006 World Cup, where the team reached the second round.

It had been reported on Monday September 8th 2008, Stephen Appiah had been spotted at Arsenal’s London Colney Training ground after completing a medical, Appiah is due to be unveiled as an Arsenal player after Ghana’s match with Lesotho. Appiah will wear the number 6 jersey vacated by Philippe Senderos.

If you didn’t know you now have to have a certain no of british players in the squad, so many of the kids won’t play they will be warming the bench. This is only for european compitions for now.

I wonder if Wenger will be willing to throw a couple of the young’uns into the FA Cup squad?

Personally I think we may encounter a few teams that will not require the first team.

I would imagine Bischoff doesn’t merit inclusion on the “A” list as we are only allowed 25 players there, of which something like 8 are subject to “local” restrictions of one variey or another, and he wouldn’t qualify for the “B” list either.

I think there is a restriction in the no of players a team can register for a tournament(30 i suppose). So we can only say they are given squad numbers. Well they have it as soon as they sign professional terms. Correct me if i’m wrong.

Is the amount of youngsters added in more to do with the fact that we need to keep a cetain amount of ‘English’ players (or foreign but been with the club since a ceratin young age) within our Champions league squad for matches?

fabregas, clichy, bendtner, Mannone, Song, Senderos, Djourou and Traore all qualify as homegrown with the club. Denilson will also qualify after this season, I think. The rule is that a homegrown player is anybody who has been with the club at least 3 years between the age of 15 and 21. We need 8 players that are homegrown in the country, thereof 4 of them have to be homegrown at the club.

Denilson cant qualify as a homer grown player. NO brazilian can. They are only allowed to move into England after they turn 18. so, they cant complete the necessary 3 years before turning 21.
NOt so sure about Song too.

I think Merida should be promoted to the first team and get number 23, I think at the moment he can become a good left midfielder like Nasri. With Rosicky not being fit a lot he can be backup for Samir Nasri… what do you think guys?!!

    First team:

    Almunia
    Sagna Touré Gallas Clichy
    Walcott Fabregas Denilson Nasri
    van Persie Adebayor

Carling cup team and back up:

    Fabianski
    Eboué Djourou Song Silvestre
    Wilshere Ramsey Diaby Merida
    Bendtner* Vela

    * Untill Dudu is back

Gibbs, Simpson, Randall, Coquelin substitus for the CC team

Rosicky I don’t count a lot on him but I hope he can be of value for us but he would have to fight himself into the first team.

    On the Merida-comment:
The numbers isn’t a way of ranking the players, as you can see, they are handed out in alphabetical order as you can see, so it is not that Merida and Simpsons won’t get chances, they just have their names. Same as Gibbs and Randall, both have been given new contracts and feautured on the bench this year, so it is not down the squadnumber if they will get chances or not. But of course, the closer to the senior team they get, the lower number they get. But for now, they aren’t good enough, so they have this reserve-squad-shirt-numbers-order :)

A B-listed player is one who is eligible to play for Arsenal for 2 uninterrupted years since 15th birthday. We may have as many B-listed players as we want. Here they are: Djourou, Walcott, Wilshere, Denilson, Fabregas, Gibbs, Randall, Cruise, Dunne, Thomas, Fonte, Hoyte, Lansbury, Murphy, Ogogo, Rodgers, Simpson, Steer, Szczesny, and Watt.

We can have 25 A-listed players. 4 of them must be club-grown (i.e. registered with Arsenal for 3 seasons between 15 and 21). I reckon we have 2: Clichy and Bendtner. Another 4 must be developed in the UK (i.e. registered with an UK club fro 3 seasons since 15th birthday). I reckon we have 3: Mannone, Song and Ramsey. Here are the remaining 17 A-listed players: Almunia, Fabianski, Sagna, Eboue, Toure, Gallas, Silverstre, Diaby, Nasri, Rosicky, Van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo, Vela, Bartley, Coquelin and Merida
