Arsenal 4-0 Bristol City – Under 18's – Match Report

Arsenal Under 18’s retained there 100% record this morning with a 4-0 romp over Bristol City, meaning the Gunners retain their position at the top of the table.

The Champions faced a hard working and well organised Bristol side who were unlucky not to scrap out a point last time these two met. London Colney was the venue this time around, and the blustery Autumn conditions would make life difficult for the Gunners.

Steve Bould slammed the performance last week as the ‘worst he has seen’ at youth level, and in the early stages it seemed like it would be a similar story. However, into the second half they managed to kick on and provide some entertainment for the small crowd.

Sanchez Watt notched his second in as many games with 23 minutes left, before England youth forward Rhys Murphy bagged his first of the new season. The two strikes deflated the tired visitors, Conor Henderson and Gilles Sunu took full advantage to wrap up a comfortable victory.

Despite not making easy work of it, Bould’s boys sealed the vital win, made even more impressive as the performance was average. A sign of Champions is winning ugly, and the youngsters are certainly doing that – and remain on course to retain the Group A title.

There have been four goals in every Under 18’s game this season, fortunately this time non conceded.

Bit off topic here J but nonetheless I’d like your opinion.

We all know about man city’s recent takeover and it seems fairly obvious that their £550billion will be spent on buying players not bringing them through. But city do have a good academy and we’ve seen the likes of micah richards and micheal johnson come through but now i think chances for their academy players will be limited. In which case what do you think the possibility of us and/or other clubs going in for some of their youngsters is. I know we took a few players from wimbledon when they collapsed ableit that is different but there’s some similarity and i think their academy could well be deemed pretty useless.

JBM – For questions like this you are better e-mailing me, but on this occasion i will answer it.

We took players from Wimbledon because there academy collapsed, Man City just have new owners. Even Chelsea bring through some players, and i think that good talent will always win out. Wilshere has shown that quality players can force there way through into a big team.

OK I’ll email next time but still thanks for the answer. My point was more that what’s happened at man city is on a scale we’ve never seen before and with the flavour of the week it would appear – in my opinion as a casual observer from the outside (I stress this point) – that players coming in to the first team there are not necesarily being chosen by the manager (seing as he was playing golf). In which case a person from outside the football community would assume (from what i observe – again opinion) that the best way is to bring players in from the outside. In which case there is an opportunity for us to go in and find ourselves some good young talent. Although i will admit i’m unsure as to the scouting restriction for young players but we brought in Kyle Bartly from Bolton up north so I figured we could sign similar players from City.

Anywho away from all the speculation and controversal politicalness type stuff; delighted to see the u18s are starting well. Lets hope they’re an inspiration to our first team!

I very much take your point, the rule is different when you sign scholars (16) you just can’t sign youngsters from around the country when they are young.

I think of course more kids will probably end up leaving City because of it. But kids would join City because they know they have a good chance, maybe if new investors come in they realise they won’t get a chance to so will go elsewhere.

    Good job by the kids.

But a little constructive criticism, maybe you should add the starting 11 and substitutes? I the roster is in the pre-match thread, but I find it easier if they are in both.

just want to say that our youth system seems to be producing the sort of english talent that people (especially the media) seem to crave! its exciting to think in 5 years time we may have a predominately english squad challenging at the top!

What has happened at City is yet another nail in the coffin of football as we know it.

More and more of these effin Billionaires will buy up clubs, using em as their own personal fantasy manager games, wages and transfer fees are already at obscene levels, players are already so up their own arseholes its unreal.

    Oh well, sh*t happens!

Won’t be long before we get more Gooners demanding we get a sugar daddy of our own.

Makes me sick, clubs should only be able to spend what they make from TV, match day revenues etc, instead we have twats like the chavs and now City.

Our FA and Premier league are impotent suits with no balls.

Clubs are run more dilligently in France and germany and their FAs have some clout.

Wow! That was sooooooo off topic and depressing!

    Sorry, do carry on…. :D

Isn’t this thread supposed to be about today’s u18 match? Not a chat about Man City’s take over?
