Arsenal Leading The Chase For Juventus Rebel Giovinco

Sebastian Giovinco is set to walk out of Juventus in January after the bitter feud over his new contract escalated into a full blown row with the Turin outfit, and Arsenal are prepared to offer him a way out.

The Gunners have been tracking the play-maker since his star performances on loan at Empoli last season, but Giovinco has always maintained his desire to remain with his parent club. However, an argument has broken out over a new contract, with the player and his agent wanting a pay rise, which would see his wages reach £20,000 a week.

That fee has seen Juve baulk as he is only 21-years-old, but reports in the Italian press claim Arsène Wenger is more than happy to pay that for the prospect – who excelled at this summer Olympic Tournament.

The bitter row has split the fans who are undecided if they wish Sebastian to stay, as he is a fantastic talent, but also feel angry at his attitude towards the club. A petition was circulated around the Internet two months ago when it appeared that Claudio Ranieri had sanctioned his sale amid reports of a £5 million bid from Arsenal.

Yesterday the player himself came out and spoke following the latest batch of negotiations over a new deal, but after they broke down and winger Iago Falqué was signed, he reacted angrily when confronted with a new batch of questions.

“My renewal with Juventus is not a priority and to be honest I couldn’t careless whether the contract is renewed or not,’

‘My agent should be thinking about certain things and for now I know my future is with Juventus.I will accept Claudio Ranieri’s decisions regarding whether or not I play on the pitch.”

Relations between all the involved parties are at rock bottom, and a transfer away from The Old Lady seems imminent. Wenger is known to be a huge fan of the diminutive youngster who is likely to cost around €7.5 million Euros, but with the dispute dividing the club, that figure looks set to come down dramatically.

I like the player but just wonder where he’ll fit in. We have an abundance of attacking flair.

a bright talent, i’m sure…but do we really want another player who will leave if he doesn’t get the money he wants? Not sure we need anymore of that attitude at Arsenal.

Why dont wenger and his scouts find the next Makélélé or Essien, a powerful ad hard-working DM, rather than another Fabregas, a young play-maker.

I remember the last young attacking player we signed who had a bust up with his club was a certain Robin Van Persie.

Hopefully this fella doesn’t have any of the injury problems but all of the same class

    JW19 – We have, he’s called Francis Coquelin :D

I really like this boy, and i think he is our type of player. Bischoff is only here on a 1 year deal, so next summer a position would be open.

I watched him closely in the Olympics and he’s a damn good footballer. He’s not afraid to accept responsibility and he’s not afraid to have a shot at goal. Even in the game Italy lost, he was a class above the rest of the team. I wouldn’t mind seeing him come in.

I watched Giovinco playing for Italy in the Olympics.
Basically he’s a very good attacking midfielder, and can play as a striker as well. Technically quite good, pacy and tricky.

We might have a problem putting him into the squad as Nasri and Theo have basically occupied the wings. Not forgetting that Rosicky and Eboue can also play on the wings, therefore Giovinco might have a hard time displacing them on either wings. As for upfront, don’t even think about it. Vela, Bendtner, Eduardo, van Persie, Adebayor. Too many!

So, logically speaking, Giovinco’s arrival would add depth in the attacking department BUT doesn’t solve the fundamental problem of the current Arsenal team.

Yet, if Wenger wants him, I suppose someone would be sold very soon. Let’s see about that.

We have an abudance of attacking midfielders, in the first team and players such as Wilshere waiting in reserves. I wouldn’t complain if he came but I think we’d be ignoring our bigger problems. Oh and in the quote he actually said he ‘knows his future is at Juventus’ and I remember his agent saying he loves the club etc.

I have to say though, he’s the kind of playmaker we don’t really have at the club. Our players such as Fabregas and Rosicky are more about picking out good passes and they don’t really have much trickery while this guy has pace and trickery.

Sanderson, i know we have Coquelin but now compare that to how many attacking players we have Merida, Lansbbury, Ramsey, Randell, Wilshire, Özyakup, Watt, Rasmussen who all could potentially get a game or two in the first team if we had some serious injury problems.

Ozyakup is still playing Under 16s, and Rasmussen is not even a regular for the Under 18’s, so your jumping the gun mate.

He’s a midget he would be destroy in the EPL, that was the same reason why we didn’t go for that Croatian midget(who’s name I can’t remember).

It’s wrong in the translation… Giovinco means that he doesn’t care about the contract, that’s up to his agent to fix, everything he wants is to play for Juve.

We didn’t go for Modric ‘cos we have Cesc in the middle. And your logic makes no sense, why would we not buy ‘that Croatian midget’ but buy that French midget?

Coquelin and Frimpong seem like great defensive midfielders but it’ll probably be 3-4 years before they’re knocking on the door for a first team place.

Oh and we do seem to be overloaded with attacking players. Merida, Ramsey and Wilshere are all world class for their age group but there are only so many positions available.

i agree with jw19… arsene and the scouts reularly find attacking young talent but defensive talent, particularly in the midfield less often.

the last dc/dm i think we got was havad nordviet.

attacking midfield wise we have , merida, barazite, ramsey, wilshire, although he has at arsenal rather than signed.

maybe look at dc and dm from now on arsene and co.

It might just be talk to get a new deal moving or to get a move away in January. I’d say he’s more likely to move to another Italian club but if he’s really good then he wouldn’t be a bad addition to our squad. About Coquelin I’d love to see him in the Carling Cup this season and if he impresses then add him to the first on a regular basis. Pre season he looked very promising, calm on the ball and with good vision.

I actually would prefer Gervinho to Giovinvo… Giovinco is the better talent but I doubt with his phsyique he will be good for us. + an italian player moving to England and succeeding in England doesn’t happen quit often. I would prefer Gervinho because he’s more powerfull and probably going to suit the physical EPL better… what do you thing guys?!!

Not that it bears any relevance to your post…………but my memories of Juventus are watching Guns’n’Roses do a concert in their stadium in 1991/2. It was one of the most amazing days I’ve ever had, next to watching Santana in the park in Tucson some years after- I made sure I got down on to the pitch and stole some grass…….

I wouldn’t be surprised if Giovinco was Rosicky’s replacement.

I think sometimes we miss the point when we say there are too many players in that position.

If there is a player who is better than Cesc, then you sign up that player and put him in the team. Simple. Obviously you have to take all the factors into account, such as loyalty, work ethic, etc, etc, but that aside, we shouldn’t be looking away from exciting prospects.

I DON’T NO WHAT TO SAY WITH ALL THE COMMENTS MADE BY LOYALIST FANS…

GIOVINCO is aRAW JEWEL & NEEDS TO BE REFINED BY THE MASTER TACTICIAN “Le Boss/Professor”…THIS GUY WOULD BE A BIG HIT WHEN HE COMES OVER TO THE EMIRATES.

WE ALL SHOULD KNOW THAT AGE IS CATCHING UP WITH ROSICKY & WITH HIS INJURY PROBLEMS..AND R.V.P ALSO IS INJURY PRONE..

GIOVINCO WUD REALLY BE AN ASSET TO LET GO LIKE THAT..WE ALL REMEMBER WE ARSENAL FC HAVE LOST A LOT OF JEWELS TO OTHER CLUBS WHEN WE WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THEM AT RELATIVELY SMALL PRICES etc
CRISTIANO RONALDO, ESSIEN, and SO MANY TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION.
    WE ALL KNOW THIS TRUTH.

I KNOW THE Le Boss would sign him up..He his too good to be ignored b4 he becomes a great terror to the world of football.

ALL THE BEST MY FELLOW GOOONER FASSS…….

    SAFE FELLAS.

there’s a few comments about height here, talk of”midgets” and so on. i’d like to point out that height is not that important, ability is. i don’t care if he is 165mm tall, if a player can do the job, he’s in the team. roberto carlos is 165 cm. fabio cannavaro is 176cm – which did not stop him becoming one of the world’s greatest central defenders. and for midfield and attacking players height is obviously even less of an issue. think of saviola, linel messi, even Pele if you like. Gerd Muller was 168 cm. could he have cut it in today’s premier league? Could any of these players? I think so!

Only some f*ckin English mamanger once told Deco that he was too short…Makalele IMO the best player in his position at this prime, both Tiny and fantastic.

Its just a fact that anyone of any size can play football, Tall guys will win more headers, but the little guys will run circles around the bigger guys!!

and anyway some shorter players I can think of were brilliant in the air – KK for one – because they are quick at getting into position and have a good leap. some tall players are not renowned for being good in the air eg Peter Crouch… Thierry
