Arsenal Reserves Add Norwich & Birmingham Fixtures

The Arsenal Reserve team season has been boosted back to 18 fixtures after the Gunners agreed to play two friendlies against Championship sides Norwich and Birmingham City.

Reading Derby and Birmingham were all in Reserves League South last season, but were eventually relegated from the Premiership. West Brom, Stoke and Hull were all promoted, but Hull were deemed to be too far away to be included in the Southern division, meaning the season was reduced to 16 games.

Liam Brady has subsequently filled the gap with two friendlies, the first taking place on the 14th of October against Birmingham City at St Andrews. Tickets vary between £2-4 pounds, but a fantastic game is in prospect between the sides, with James Dunne scoring in a 2-1 defeat last year.

The second fixture takes place on the 18th of November. The Gunners will travel to Carrow Road for a 7.30pm kick off with Glen Roeder’s Canaries, who have withdrawn from the Football Combinations Reserve League, where they would be facing the likes of Grays Athletic.

It’s not yet known if Arsenal TV will be streaming the games, although Arsenal’s other second-string friendly encounter have not been broadcast.

How comes Kyle Bartley’s playing in the U18’s? Is it for more game time. And what do u think about Gibbs playing LB long term? He said he is trying it out but personally he is a winger or a central midfielder so learning to defend better will help this side of his game.

He is playing there because he still can, and there is no Reserves games. He was rested for last weeks Under 18 game ahead of the Chelsea game.

I don’t think anybody can get past Clichy at the moment.

Norwich have definitely done the right thing by opting out of our local reserve league. Arranging fixtures like this – and against local senior sides – gives our reserves their first proper work out since we were relegated!

J: I know this is a youth blog (hell, you say it in the comment above), but as this is the loan place, as far as i know, that does decent coverage of loanees, have you considered covering Senderos’ time at Milan? I – as well as many others I assume – am intruiged how he does at AC would be very interested to hear your take on his time there. I’ll understand if you won’t write about it but its just a suggestion. (And if you don’t want to write about it, do you know somewhere that is tracking his progress?)
